1. We are lucky to have an amazing musical chemistry in our band. We play all original material and come up with one or two new songs every rehearsal by jamming. We really had to hold back when we were practicing our material for the upcoming gig... So yes, the basslines are all mine, and some of them pretty much define the song. That´s a good feeling.
 2.
I think it sounds like that because he's playing it on an old precision, and probably with flatwound strings.
+ 1. 3. Don´t know if this has been posted before, but I figure it might be of interest to some of you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WluQwSkm1Tk...re=channel_page Pino Palladino with Simon Phillips and Philippe Saisse. Can´t find any tour dates though...
 4.
Do I want a Precision or a Jazz?
I know. You want a Precision. Fact is, every bass player wants one but some just don´t realise it.
 5.
I always had a soft spot for Talk Talk. They looked crap but certainly delivered on the songwriting and playing front. The last two albums (essentially Mark Hollis and their producer/keyboard player noodling in the studio with session players) were almost permanently in my CD player during the early 90s. Check out the drummer in this video.
*slaps forehead* Of course! How could I forget them, probably my favourite 80s band. "Spirit of Eden", "The Colour of Spring" - brilliant albums. And their music has aged very well, especially compared to other artists from that period.
 6. Damn! I´ve been GAS free for over a year, but I really want that fretless. If it sounds good, that is. Don´t see myself spending that kind of money on an Epiphone though...
 7.
Curiosity Killed The Cat. Yes, really.
Yes, really! Hot House Flowers, anyone? Big Country? Simple Minds ("Sparkle in the Rain")! Heck, even U2 managed to come up with some good stuff in the 80s.
 8. Nice vid. I thought it was funny that the guitarist told Marcus that the chorus of the song went "like (Sly Stone´s) If You Want Me to Stay" and whoever did the subtitles didn´t get the musical reference, tried to make sense of it and translated it to "if you want me to continue..."
 9.
Nor me, i was out of the country, in fact im always out of your country.
+ 1...
 10.
At present EBay haven't withdrawn the seller. Anyone smell a rat with this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Precision-Bas...%3A1%7C294%3A25 Did I hear someone say "Squier"? 4th bass sold in recent weeks having never traded in them before!
Yep, looks like a bog standard Squier Precision Special to me. Mexican Fender Deluxe Precisions have active electronics with four pots, not three, and a plastic "gold anodized" pickguard. They are available in Europe and never ever did they cost 1.200 dollars new.
 11. Hartke LH500 or 3500 + Hartke XL 410. You could do worse than that for slap, and Klangfarbe should have all of these in stock. Oh yeah, and since your bass is rubbish for slap, I´ll trade you my G&L L-2000 for it, ok?
 12.
All "prog" sounds 30 years old, because it is. It should be re-named "regressive rock" now.
+ 1. Vampire Weekend have some fun bass lines.
 13.
Opposite end of the spectrum, I've played through an Ampeg SVT a couple of times recently and I really didn't like it. That's a hanging offence in some places.
I recently got the chance to directly compare an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro /4x10 and a Hartke 3500 / 4x10XL. I really dug the Hartke setup and didn´t like the Ampeg rig at all...
 14. I like these (both the players and the shots):
 15.
The bass player was using a Little Mark II head into a Hartke 4x10 cab, and playing a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz bass. It sounded fantastic. I'm fairly sure that unless you're a player with specific tonal needs, there is no reason why most gigging bassists need to throw vast amounts of money at a bass when most modern lower end gear is so good.
Definitely. One of the growliest, punchiest live bass sounds I´ve heard recently came out of a Squier Precision Special - that´s the cheapest PJ they make - with replacement pickups (don´t know what make - they had double blades instead of pole pieces). It was played through a GK Diesel Dawg into an Ashdown MAG amp + 4x10. Sounded killer.
