Cheers for the replies! I think I'll go with the Alesis USB Guitarlink cable. Maybe go for something a little more pricey like an interface in the near future cause I'm just getting started with all this. Cheers for your help chaps!

The recording quality sucks though even after a bit of editing. I will post it up here but bare in mind its a real rough recording (timing issues and hissing..) I want to know what you guys use to record bass onto a laptop/computer (software and hardware). I was thinking about getting a USB cable for my bass to laptop or maybe even some interface but I am a total newbie when it comes to all this stuff, let me know your thoughts![/font][/color]

Well I have decided to look around for other clinics closer to home (in and around Manchester), looks like i will have to go privately though cause the NHS may take too long, (I need the medical complete by beginning of December). Does anyone know of any places to try out in the North West?

Well there are based in New York and London so half and half I guess.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I still have time to cancel the outrageous medical appointment down in London. Just try to get in contact with the agency I'm with to sort out an alternative. When I'm looking back over the emails about the medicals it seems they have these "recommended" clinics where you can do the medical that are private and seem extortionate in price but I may be able to get one on the NHS so thats better news. I think it is a standard medical but it does seem very in depth, even testing for HIV etc.. But yeah should work out ok if I can get hold of the people and my agency and sort it out. The only thing that slightly worries me is when I told one of the guys about the £500 medical quote he said it wasn't that bad of a price quote! So I went ahead and booked, I'm just wondering if I can do it on the NHS why no one from that agency told me... Trying not to worry hah. Should be fine though, I still have time to cancel it..

Well i mean like the cruise line I will be working for (Carnival) have a list of clinics I can choose from do have a medical with. I can't just go to my local GP. I'm based in Manchester now and the nearest one is in Blackpool, but with me going down to London anyhow to get my Visa I thought I would tie the two in together.

Well they have set practices I guess some of the practitioners work with the cruise lines though, so I can't just go to my GP. But yeah £500, sucks..

So I finally got a cruise ship gig and I have been told that I have to have a medical (obviously). Its with Carnival and the have set medical practices that you have to go through and I've been quoted £450/500 pounds for mine at a place down in London. Carnival don't reimburse you for this just the visa. I thought this amount was a lot but the agency says its a decent quote, I have the appointment booked for Tuesday next week, if someone can tell me if this is a good/bad deal I will be very grateful! - Jack

Hey fellow BCters, I have joined a big band, well kind of if it all goes well. My reading is ok but I struggle with up tempo numbers with a lot of dots, can anyone help me to find either some big band charts/bass parts or like looads and looads of walking bass lines parts (straight walking without being loads of skip notes and such), I'm running out of material here!

I second "A train", have you thought about doing a bossa as well, like "Blue Bossa", "How Insensitive" or "Corcovado" could be nice..

So I just had another cruise ship audition, it went quite well this time hopefully I'll get something out of it. One of the only things I was unsure about was when he asked me to play a few basslines in various different latin styles. Like a Cha Cha groove, Rumba, Tango and a few others. I have studied jazz at Uni and we never got taught about this styles in depth. Now I'm in the real world, its time to wise up before I go on a cruise. Anyone got any pointers?

Hey y'all, I'm really interested in working in the pit as a musician in some theatre productions but I don't really know where to start as I've never done anything like this before. I just need to get out there and put my reading skills to the test, plus the money couldn't hurt right now! I'm trying to get my reading up for a cruise ship gig, so I'm frantically reading everyday to get my chops up. So yeah I'm looking for any gigs that will give my reading some practice, theatre, big band, whatever! Can any body give me any tips on how to start trying to get work in these fields? Any tips would be great!
