  1. If its same 3 piece doing instrumentals as i saw last summer he was using a markbass combo not sure of speaker size. I had chat with bass player and he had it powered with golf cart battery. Amazing sound till they got shifted by city police lot. Apparently they are there as regular spot. Good pub as well.
  2. Ralph is excellent and repaired broken headstock on my bass within 2 days. Highly recommended.
  3. Just picked up limelight precision from derek and took it over hadrains wall to Northumberland. Great transaction and thanks to derek for holding it for me even though my posting on here is rare. first time I've seen a limelight in the flesh and what a great quality resonant bass. double bass might get forgotten for my dep next sat! Cheers stu
  4. Hi, just bought a set from Rab on here and finally got them fitted. Absolutely massive improvement on silver slaps I have been using. Many thanks to Rab for his quick despatch and advice, cheers stu
  5. Always visit when down. Had good crack with manager of 12 bar club who has family in ashington area of north east. Cheers stu
  6. Had same problem at 2 gigs recently, I'd replaced the gaffa on the f holes with foam and worked for 15 gigs or so but then had the awful full gig gripping db between legs for whole gig. Gaffes back in spades and problem solved, doesn't look pretty but makes for a better sounding and more enjoyable gig to play.
  7. Cheers kev, bass is well set up and sounds great, out gigging with it Saturday. Many thanks stu
  8. made my day as i know i do it all wrong, as a new db player, my arms, hands and teeth! are everywhere in order to get through a 2 hour set with most of the notes in tune!
  9. thanks Gareth for your time to put that together, very helpful, I have some Boss pedals somewhere from my 6 string days and will give it a go in the house tonight. cheers stu
  10. hi, i posted a few weeks ago regarding starting gigging a cheap db with a cheap pickup through a markbass head and a phil jones cab ( my electric set up). advice was to get a preamp but i havent got pennies yet and started gigging the bass 3 weeks ago. soundwise its ok and keeps up with drummer etc in 5 piece band though any louder and it feedsback. anyway in another thread on amps someone mentions possibility of using the balanced connector on the front of the little mark 2 for double bass. Is this true and would i get any benefit in running the lead from the bass to this? sorry if this is a dumb question but i dont know nowt about the dark side of how it all works! cheers stu
  11. I also gigged friday and sat night with a double bass for the first time, we do 50s rock and roll and the db just gave the whole band the right feel. My bass is a cheap £200 second hand bass and i stuck a £25 j tone pickup on it (off ebay). It sounds ok until i can upgrade. I can get the bass into a fiat punto with a small cab and markbass amp so dont be put off by the size. My fingers were getting cramp on the 2nd night but the 2nd set ran to 1hour 20 mins. Most enjoyable gigs ive done, it just feels right. get one
  12. thanks, guess ill get to the gig early and try it anyway but get a preamp in the new year, cheers
  13. i play in a band doing 50s rock and roll usually playing a precision. I recently acquired a cheap double bass (chinese) and last night stuck a cheap transducer pickup on. i play through a markbass lm2 and a phil jones 4b cab. it sounds ok if stick the 2 filters right up on the head and keep the input gain right down and rest of controls flat but havent tried it higher volumes. i wondered if any of you have any advice on amplifier settings as i fancy trying it a gig on friday as we are playing local. ok i know i probably need a better bass and pickup! cheers stu
  14. took bass up 18 months ago after 25 years on guitar and have smallish hands. found fender jazz worked for me though after 6 months moved onto wider fretboard precision so bear in mind it takes time to adjust.
