1. Static-X, Korn, Deftones, Slipknot, Linkin Park and the Disturbed are all pretty popular nu metal. Thankyou I'll be here all week.
 2. Thanks. What you all say seems to match the impression I got from reading his website. I just wanted to hear from some people who have dealt with him in the past as people who seem that enthusiastic are either not to be trusted or are just veru passionate and emotional. Sounds like Richard falls into the latter. Due to some changed/cancelled appointments I think I will be able to actually make it to his shop anyway now though. Thanks for the feedback though.
 3.
But seriously, it seems a really weird idea to video yourself doing something and then put it on the net. I have the same concerns with people reporting their every moment on facebook. To me it seems very sad, almost as if these people need to do these things to make themselves feel OK about themselves, or to justify their existence. I can't believe that these people do it out of altruism to help their fellow bassists learn stuff.
Maybe it seems weird because it is something that has only recently became possible and you didn't grow up with? On top of that, if you stop and think, it actually can serve a purpose in several ways-

Unlike facebook, etc you can make money off youtube based off your views, subscribers, etc. Now of course most people make nothing or just beer money but some people make a living far better than minimum wage.
It can be a learning tool for other people. Arguably doubly so with bass, when I started (and a lot of other people I've talked to as well when they started) found it hard to make out the bassline in songs, especially if the bass isn't clear in the mix or is very complicated. Plus just seeing/hearing someone else play something can help. You can argue about "do it the hard way, you will learn more" and that may be true but for the vast majority of bass players they are just doing bedroom playing or small gigs for fun so learning the easy way isn't really a big deal.
Some people use youtube as a social network. Nothing wrong with that.
This isn't like people who endlessly post on facebook about every activity they do. This video is of a specific thing that arguably is of interest to other people.
She can show her friends/family/whatever she doesn't live near how her playing is coming on.
What harm does it do? So what if she feels better because someone says "nice playing". I'm sure you can think of people from your own personal life who are far more harmful to themselves and others in their attempts to find love and validation. It's a human thing to do. Everyone does it, the only difference is how noticable and how damaging it is. You are lying to yourself if you say you have never done anything with the intention (counscious or sub-councious) of soliciting some validation.
If you are convinced they are all sad people doing it for petty reasons then, I hate to say it, but I feel like that reflects worse on you than them! How can you judge someone off the fact they uploaded an online video of them playing a musical instrument? Now don't get me wrong it isn't my cup of tea either but I don't really think it is weird or struggle to see the point. As for all the "gender" stuff. I think OP probably was completely harmless in their intention but I don't think there is anything particually remarkable about her playing that means you have to check her out.
 4. Thinking of buying from their online site http://rguitars.co.uk/ Anyone heard of them? Had any experience using them?
 5. Could someone point me to/upload the tabs for Ball and Chain by Big Brother and The Holding Company?
 6.
"I'm/my mate/significant other/brother, is/used to be in a band............"
Why is that so bad?
 7. I was nervous about playing infront of other people for the first time but I just practiced and practiced so I knew I wouldn't f*** anythign up. By the time I played my first gig I was less worried about that than my first band practice!
 8. Did yu follow all the instructions in the readme file?
 9. I think it depends on the bassist but I'm sure there are some who just dialled in whatever sounded ok and got on with it. And then there are people like Tim Commerford from RATM who makes a big song and dance about not revealing the secret of his sound because it took him years to get so other people don't deserve to use it
 10. I had one of my basses (the Ibanez Iceman) laid on my bed and the neck was sticking out. I accidentally knocked a wheely chair into the neck. After the initial look over it looked fine but I've just noticed two cracks/scratches coming fro the neck pocket. Could hitting the neck further up cause a scratch/crack in the paintwork near the base of the neck? Also is there anyway of touching it up and will they get worse? At the moment they arn't really noticable. I'll take some pics if I can find my camera.
 11. Exactly what I was trying to explain but you put it much better.
 12. For me a tab is a good place to start off when trying to work a song out, I'm only just getting to the stage of working songs out for myself but I find playing through a few different tabs of the same song often helps send me in the right direction. And from what I read the "bassmasta" was fully protected he just sold the domain name for the money. Apparently songster pays the artists for using tabs of their song but I havn't looked into it so I don't know exactly how that works. I can see why they might charge for using all the twiddly knobs and stuff they have, but charging to people to zoom in on something takes the piss. Also there are so many free tabs on the internet it would be crazy to try and police them, like illegal downloading of music, it''s impossible to stop unless the internet becomes completely controlled by the goverment. However I have read an article about several British artists, no one that famous, who took legal action to get alot of sites to remove their tabs. Completely retarded. Next they will be sueing you for playing along to their CD at home Anyway I will try to stop ranting about this now EDIT: It seems Led Zeppelin, Portishead and a few others have had their tabs removed on copyright claims. The tabs are a representation of a series of notes, not a re-creation of the song so how can they have them removed? Unless an artist owns the series of notes they use on any record they have had published, which makes no sense. It would stop people being able to produce new music. Surely this fad can't last?
 13. I've found it, the previous owner uploaded a torrent of all the tabs so you can have all the tabs from the site saved to your computer and view them through your browser. A quick google search will find it for you if anyone is interested and it is about 1GB in size. And songsterr seems ok I'm just annoyed that A) they bought the domain name for bassmasta and that they are trying to charge me to make the tab go fullscreen/zoom in on it.
