1. Any help on this would be fantastic. The bass is a 2009 4003 and has hardly been played. I've just recently encountered the following problem that maybe you could advise on? The black rectangular metal part of the pickup that is contained in the housing unit has become loose and can be moved around horizontally within the confines at the top of the pickup unit. There’s no effect on the sound. The pickup itself is solid but you can hear a rattle when you play the bass i.e. the loose bit rattling. I'm more than comfortable trying to fix it myself if put in the right direction. Obviously, it would involve removing the scratch plate and pots which is no prob but any advice on what it might be would be really appreciated.

3.
If you're very careful, could you get a spot of superglue in there? A spot in each end would suffice. All you have to do is get the nozzle in as tight as you can so as to not get any glue on the front and let the capillary action do the rest. It might not be a permanent fix (it might come loose in a year or two) but it would save taking it to bits. Any bits of glue on the chrome that you can see should just pick off with your finger nail once it's dry.
On close inspection it looks like the whole metallic bit of the pickup unit so superglue may not do the job although it is something I considered for a while until I investigated further. Cheers

EHX Nano Bassballs

I'm pleased with my Bassballs, picked it up for a bargain on eBay and so far so good. It's quite a responsive little thing, the harder you pluck the funkier it sounds. I'm sure I'll be able to put it to good use with some guitar and drums playing alongside
6. Took me 21 years to get myself a Jazz (Squier Vintage modified 70s LH) and boy what an amazing bass. What have I been missing out on all these years. Fantastic sound, punchy, fast neck, beautiful tone, gorgeous fretboard, impressive solid body and funky skunk stripe. £234.99, in my opinion a bargain. Would have considered a LH Mex Fender but I was desperate for a maple neck ever since I got rid of my Ibanez Blazer 15 years ago
7. My first bass cost me £30, a Satellite RH P-Bass short scale copy in sunburst, I didn't even realise I had to switch the strings me being a leftie until I got home. I didn't even know that you had to tune it to a certain pitch but that was the beauty of starting out as as 16 year old bassist. If, you're starting out now I'd probably look to eBay for the best deals where you can pick up half-decent starter basses for well under £100. otherwise, the good old 2nd hand shop still packs a decent punch and there's always Cash Converters where what I've seen in there sometimes I wish I was a right hander
8. I've just bought a Squier Jazz Vintage Modified LH and what can I say - it's amazing. Bargain price of £234.99, as soon as I played it in store I made my mind up to hand over the cash. I've been after a Jazz bass for many years but being a leftie, the USA Fenders come at a price (£1100+). The Squier is sold bodied bold on neck with the all elusive maple fretboard. The sound is fantastic, and that's coming from someone who has a USA P-bass and a Rick 4003. I'm no expert but I think I know what I'm talking about. My main bass is the P, the Rick is still an object of desire at the moment but now I am in total love with this Squier. I never thought I'd say this about a squier but these are probably the best Squiers ever made since the Jap ones of the 80's. Why pay more.
9. I've got an Orange 20B and it fairs very well even in practice rooms and is obviously ideal for the bedroom. Can lose some clarity at really high volumes but if you can pick up one on eBay for half the RRP then I'd go for it.
10. Here's my list - all Lefties except the Satellite Satellite Short Scale P-Bass Copy sunburst(1989-1990) Marlin Sidewinder black (1990-1991) Hohner Arbor PJ black & white (1991) Aria RSB Pro II black (1991-1994) Ibanez Blazer natural (1992-1994) Ibanez GSR blue (1994) Rickenbacker 4001 mapleglow (1994-1995) Status Graphite natural (1995-1998) Fender Precision USA candy apple red (1998 to present Rickenacker 4003 Jetglo (2009 to present) Regrets - I have a few!
11.
Selling my Westone Thunder 2 (that my Dad bought me for my 15th birthday), so that I could get the money to take a girl on holiday. I then gave up playing because I was too mature and sensible for such childish things. I was 20 and didn't pick up a bass again until I was 37. When I started playing in a band again I really realised what I had missed. That's a big regret. Plus I reckon that if I had still been playing I wouldn't have been such a boring old fart throughout my 20s. Last year I found my bass for sale on ebay and bought it back. The only scratch on it was one that I had put there 20 years previously. Oh and I'm still with the girl.
Great Story - you could do a film. I'm touched, glad you got the Westone Back. I loved those things and wish I got one when I had the chance in the early 1990's
12. Regrets, not really just selling a LH 1970's Rickenbacker 4001 after 9 months in 1995 for a 100% profit to someone who drove 300 miles to pick it up in person and paid in cash on the spot. Regrets, absolutely none!
13. Fellow lefty here too - cracking list you've got. I love my trusty Fender USA P 1996, can't beat'em
14. I've found it quite exciting being a left handed bassist. There's always that initial sense of anticipation when you walk into a guitar shop. Two things usually tend to happen 1) You ogle at the beautiful selection of RH basses then leave quietly 2) there happen to be a few left handers but they're not worth the wood they've been made. There is the odd ocassion that you spot a top class LH bass but it's usually grossly overpriced. Still exciting times though.
15. The Fender P is quite simply the world standard bass in terms of sound and appearance. It is verstatile, honest, robust and a genuine pleasure to play. Every bass out there whether you like it or not is built with the Fender P in mind from Alembic to Zen.
