@Soledad as you already have Vanderkley cabinets, why don't you couple them with one of their heads? I know they are hard to find, but it would be worth a try. I've also had tons, literally, of amp heads and as I'm always looking for transparency sound wise, the GR Bass One 800 was the most transparent very slightly coloured in the high mids, so would be my number 1, Vanderkley Aurora or Spartan being the benchmark to me; then would come the number 2, the Eich T900 as they use the same power amp module, but have a bit more warmth and tad bit less definition; number 3 would be the Glockenklang Bass Art (Classic) head (300 Watts for the first generation and 400 Watts after that) which would be closer to the Vanderkley heads, but sometimes a bit "sterile" when all flat. The MarkBass heads have too much low mids to be considered uncoloured, just like the Aguilar TH series, the AG series being their best models for sure, but not really uncoloured. The TC Electronic RH 750 head has to be tried too, even if a bit old, this is an excellent "uncoloured" head slightly scooped in the mids when flat, so a number 4. The Epifani heads are also coloured as well as any Mesa Boogie: You don't buy these for their transparency, but for their sound signature. I've always loved EBS gear, but there's a deep signature to their sound with too much low mids growl and a brighter top end, so again coloured. I've never tried a Handbox head, so will rely on users' comments. I'm now back to FRFR with a HeadRush "rig" (Core + 112 MkII) as it's, eventually for me, the best totally uncoloured tone, but if your bass or your playing is dull, the final tone will be dull too, that's the flip side of this... That said it can transcend your basic tone too, if it's a good one. 😉 Good luck with your quest.

Just the average egoguitarist approach to mixing. Nothing new under the sun 😁 OF COURSE everyone wants to hear his crunchy tones and nothing else, that's why they're there for on the wedding!

Anyone else tear their hair out with the band member who does the band's live sound? 4 piece wedding band (guitar x2, bass, drums and occasional keys from singer guitarist). Our guitarist does the mixing. He's a brilliant player but comes from a heavy metal background. We play standard wedding indie / pop rock at a huge variety of venues. He pumps the kick drum, buries the bass guitar (i swear he hates bass guitar and often jokes about it) absolutely drowns everything in his guitar and eq's the vocals so they don't get in the way. It absolutely kills me every time. I'm there for the money but it would be nice to feel like I'm part of the sound and I think we just sound like a blaring mess. I've offered to mix countless times but he complains endlessly and, as it's his mixer, he generally pulls rank and takes over. If we get the usual venue complaints of "it's too loud and there's too much bass" it's usually a reference to the absolutely thumping kick drum but he laughs and just turns the bass guitar down even further. Annoyingly, he's a lovely guy when he's not mixing.

I've had an MXR DI 80+ a few times, a Tech21 SanAmp, an Aguilar ToneHammer, an MXR Bass DI, a Tech21 DP3-X, DHA custom units, the blue and black one I can't remember with the sticky out valve, a couple of others I've forgotten and the first one that does exactly what I want is the Plex.

Speak to Lee at Laverack Guitars. He makes Toltec pickups. They are handwound near Leeds. He'll pretty much make what you want if you chat to him and explain what tone you're looking for. He really knows his stuff and is good at demystifying it all. Also, it won't cost you much more than £100 for the pair. I have a pair of Toltec hot vintage pickups and although they aren't being used at the moment, they're so good that they've gone in the box of things that won't go up for sale.

My latest haul. Annoyingly after hunting for months for a 442 filter I picked up this one which I’m fairly sure is the guitar model, then a few days later I’ve come across two more one of which is definitely the bass model so I’ve picked that up. The difference is likely subtle and for all I know this one could be modded to bass specs as you could request it from Mojo Hand at the time before they split them off to two models. Orange pedal in the middle is a hand painted 1 of 1 Zvex Concert Bass Super Duper. Going to be a fun week as soon as my birth year Rickenbacker turns up.

I prefer the old one too. But I bet it's an excellent cab, so my best wishes for you enjoying it.
