  5. Or maybe 'busk' your own 'concert' quite close to theirs..? It won't take long for them to take the hint, with a suitable choice of instrument ...
  6. Here's my homemade pedalboard. I'm now swinging both ways and playing guitar and bass. I prefer the sound of the guitar through the Tonex and the bass through the Mod Dwarf. So use the EHX box to mix. The third channel of the EHX box goes to a Mac for recording purposes. The Tonex has some lovely Fender amps which sound great with a Fender Tele or Strat. It's all driven through a Cioks DC-7 mounted underneath. Its bigger than it needs to be, I could save 2-3cm on the width, but its not a big deal. Its very, very solid. You can certainly stand on it, and we got up to 150Kg with zero issues, so possibly too solid Everything is printed including the cable management which nicely slots into the aluminium extrusion.

  8. A bit lightweight, methinks, for a 200+ capacity disco club, and definitely overkill as a bird scarer. Thinking of upgrading the car stereo, maybe..?
  9. I've just noticed that the bridge on my Squier Jazz 5er is curling up at the back, the fulcrum is the fixing screws. It's the standard Fender/Squier improved BBOT, the ones with the solid block rather than being bent and to my eyes looks identical to the one on my Fender P-Bass V. Can I do anything about it or is it a new bridge time, chunkier construction like a Schaller or a BadAss? It's strung with D'Addario ECB81-5 standard tuning.
  10. Add a couple of strips of Sellotape, masking tape or that wide brown paper packing tape to the base of the pedals first. You can just peel the whole thing off if need.
  11. So, here's a scenario. I'm visiting someone in your town and they get me to come to your jam night. They come and say to you, we've got someone new in the audience tonight who's happy to get up and who's played loads of festivals, played with people who you may have heard of and been on a couple of albums. Are you going to say we're not going to invite him up because he doesn't carry a bass when he travels? I've done loads of these events, some (especially the ones at festivals) where there are some pretty decent players getting up. I would never take a £5k bass to a jam night, I generally just used to take out a bog standard four string Fender Jazz. We never used to allow drunks or idiots to get up (you can always tell) and even if they weren't the greatest players, we never had any issues. Some of the jam nights were great, but the regular ones used to run out of steam after a bit because you just get the same guys coming week after week. Insisting that you only play with guys who bring their own bass is only going to make that worse. It seems a bit pointless to me.
  12. Hi snorkie, I’ve got a squier mini P bass which is Scale Length28.6 I think, maybe have a look at those strings
  13. I live in that London and would be up for a social Bass Bash 😁
  14. David kindly answered my plea for a hard case for my P Bass. It was at least as good as described, really well packaged & he was an absolute pleasure to deal with. Thanks again David, appreciated👍👍

  16. Hi. Here you go (from the Gator site)... Length 12.50" Width 19.00" Height 9.00" Cheers!
  17. Thanks, Terry – much appreciated, mate. It's too good to be a backup!
  18. I bought a used Encore P bass for £30ish. I put decent strings on it and sorted the action, so it plays nicely. It's actually perfectly useable. I've occasionally taken it to gigs in iffy venues where I don't want to risk something better. Amen to that. Plenty of people don't wash their hands after a trip to the khazi. Just wipe away and sod what they think.
  19. This bass is not exactly an Alembic, but it is my son's very first one he got as a sprog. It used to sound not too bad for what it is, but then the strings gave out. It's currently strung with some short-scale brand (forgotten which), but the E string sounds really awful - dead and lifeless. The strings it originally had from the factory all sounded fine and I wonder if any of you chaps and chapesses out there have any thoughts on what might work? As you can see, it's a 27" length from ball-end to nut (oo-er!), and no doubt, lighter strings might help solve the 'dead' E string problem. Any suggestions gratefully received. Obs, this is purely for sentimental reasons. 🥹 Images for scale length and comparison to a normal sized Jazz (I know the wee one is a P.) Thanks in advance.
  20. A sticky or sweaty neck after someone has used one's instrument is never pleasant. I've got a bar towel stashed away for my EUB's neck, though I fear that one day someone will take offence when I wipe it.
  21. If it helps I tried one of these along with a CV 70's, with the block inlays, back in 2014. They didn't feel really any different, though, as Jono said, the pup was brighter in the MF. I opted for the CV, but wish I'd gone with the MF, as the CV later developed a rattle within the neck.
  22. I was there when my friend brought it home new from the shop (probably Tiger Music in Brighton) then later it passed to me - who has had it since - so I know it wasn't swapped for the amp module from a standalone head, at least not since ~1983 Presumably they wanted to minimise the number of variants manufactured, although the printed instructions on the back panel next to the sockets are tailored to the combo case at least. The wording always seemed rather eyeball-crossing though, albeit correct, since it doesn't mention that socket B disconnects the internal speakers which would have made it more immediately obvious... IIRC it just says "If socket A is not used then a 4ohm cabinet may be connected to socket B otherwise use 8ohm only." Re heat/fans - yes this was/is an issue. When my friend first got it, it kept cutting out after a while due to the thermal cutout. He took it back to the shop and it was modified by their tech "Oh yes sir, we do a lot of these". So they fitted the aforementioned horrendous papst fan which can definitely not be put in the 'quiet fan' category. When the amp passed to me I immediately removed the amp from the combo case, removed the fan, and installed the amp in a small separate flight case with more natural ventilation, where it was perfectly happy. Some years ago, wanting the flight case back for other purposes, and irritated by hole in the top of combo cab, I fitted it back in its proper place but with a quiet 12Vdc Nexus fan run at 6V from it's own small PSU piggy-backed on the mains transformer.
  23. I was willing to give this the benefit of the doubt and see what the reports were after it had taken place, but I do wonder how long this 'postponement' will be...
  24. I'd be aggrieved having to buy a cheap bass off Amazon for the drunk greasy dipsticks to play. I'd sooner scour charity shops or car boot sales for something with 2 strings and a bowed neck with 1 inch action and a flaky pickup that only works half the time.
  25. Finished my 5 stringer........ And the new Short Scale Punkcoustic Bass is coming along nicely.........👍🏻🤟🏻
