  2. I think anything can do metal. I've even seen a Hoffner violin bass used by a doom band before. A precision and humbucker should be an ideal pickup combination
  3. Hi all, Apologies if this has been asked before (I did have a quick search), I was wondering if anyone has used, or owns one of the barefaced retro one 10 with the activiviviviviver thingy in it? Just wondered what your thoughts were.
  4. I'd assume any Sandberg can do metal (them being bright basses by default), especially if you hook it up with a Sansamp for additional saturation and OD.

Power circuit sound be fairly easy to check - does each VA point get a steady 9v ? (Guessing it’s 9v) based on what you’ve said ild be checking for anything wierd around the IC socket
  6. I like that. Tribute to a hugely popular rock band that doesn't play the songs everyone wants to hear.
  7. Surprised its not been snatched up by now. These basses are so nice to play. The necks are probably the best i've tried, just so comfy. Dave
  8. But can it do metal?
  9. May consdier trades/part trades with lightweight basses, or something Stingray Esq 😊
  10. That's cracking value and similar to Toltec. I was quoted more than double that (£240) for a pair with customisation from a well-known UK maker. I needed 2 pairs of Js made up as humbuckers and it's the difference between £200 and £480 for total job of 4 coils. And because I'm familiar with Toltec and not with the other more expensive one, it's a no-brainer.
  11. The massive gap between the scratch plate and the neck too looks wrong to me. I’ve never seen that on hundreds of vintage Fenders.
  12. Up On The Roof - The Drifters
  13. This seems a bit "off topic" though, like that other tariff post. No offense but I come here to read about basses and switch my mind off. If I want to get anxious over the state of the world, I can just open literally any news site and get depressed in a half second. No need to remind me of all this when trying to bury my head in bass... 😅
  14. Nice. What's the weight of the MTD?
  15. £67 posted, it's had the best part of 2hrs use
  16. Just seen this: https://bassbros.co.uk/product/1969-fender-jazz-bass-3/ Neck doesn’t look right to me. Date stamp is far too clear and little to no colouration on the headstock. All the vintage Fenders I’ve had have a beautiful orange glow to them. Binding also looks far too white. Not suggesting it’s a fake, just intersting.
  17. Now €2200... This is a very good price imo
  18. On a midnight train. Gladys knight atp
  19. We've got a rehearsal tomorrow night so I'll give it a go. 80-90% of the time will be on the vintage channel, but we've got a couple of rockier ones that I may try using the overdrive channel
  20. Bloodstone Guitarworks Herrick Pickups. Fletcher Pickups. Armstrong Pickups. Fife Pickups. There's also a lad called Martin Harmer, I've an alnico 2 spilt coil from him along with a 51 alnico 2 single coil and a pair of 51 singles for a Tele jazz bass. For the latter Martin cut me custom bobbins to match my string spacing at neck/bridge positions, wound the bridge pickup hotter (to hold it's own against the neck position) and RWRP for hum-cancelling. Turnaround for the pair was 1 week and they were under £100 with postage.
  21. Little board update from last night’s gig!
  22. It is a commercial (Fuzzdog) PCB, and yes the same works perfectly on the breadboard which I still have around for audioprobing and multimeter testing purposes. Visual inspection does not show bad solder joints, so might be lurking under a solder blob, if that's that. I'll also do comparative voltage measurements between the breadboard and the PCB, just had no time yet.
  23. I’ve just sent an email too - I’ve only received up to issue 11, I’ve had 15 PayPal payments taken, never received the strings or a reply to my email chasing them up 😕 I used the online form on the website to get in contact - did anyone have more luck using a different way to get a reply?
  24. Modulus BassStar SP24 1989 For sale is my beautiful Modulus Bassstar with Koa body. These are pretty rare. The bass has been used a lot, which shows. The body has a lot of wear, small damages and usermarks. The neck is in good condition. All hardware and electronics (vol, pickup select, bass/treble) work like they should. Playability is good. It’s quite a light instrument with its 3,8kg. Fixed low price €1550 I am located in the Netherlands. Pickup is preferred, but I could ship anywhere at buyers risk and expense.
  25. Way outside of my price range but my god I love the finish of that Bass
