Anyone bought a cheap (Chinese) neck off eBay?
HowieD72 replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Bass Guitars
No worries! Anytime. Yes, some don't like the lemon oil on the back of the neck, but I've had great results on my wenge neck parts basses & my Warwick basses. Check out the following before & after lemon oil treatments. This was on a Corvette FNA.... -
I wouldn’t count those. For me, they are licensed, budget versions of the parent company, models.

I 'did a Trav' and also bought a blue and a black one....... Both played fine out of the box - I'll do a bit of playing then give them a tweak if needed....... bargain - 2 decent basses for £298 delivered! I've got a function band gig this sat, so will take one with a Jazz and see how it fares....... I used the blue one last night in a little low volume rehearsal and no issues really. Still trying to work out the switching and pick up configuration options though.....

9.5K - is that all? "The (Reverend) Jazz Bomb bridge pickup features warm mids and a focused attack, enhanced output, and still percussive when you dig in. Hum-free. 43 gauge wire, ceramic magnet, 14K ohms." Not that DC resistance is the be-all and end-all of pickup power...

Amazing Lego Minimoog project - please support
bass_dinger replied to Quatschmacher's topic in General Discussion
Apologies, I wasn't clear. Or, more likely, a bout of sickness has made my waffle even harder to read! From seeing previous Lego projects, I know that even 10,000 votes does not guarantee that the item will go into production. And even if it does, Lego designers may refine the model, whether to change the ease of build, or to reduce the piece-count. My guess is that they probably won't produce new molds for new pieces, but they may reintroduce retired pieces or make existing pieces in new colours. I thought that the choice of an analogue synthesiser was a little "out there" and didn't match anything else they had produced (until I remembered the Lego typewriter - wonderful!) As for my "homage" quip, that was simply me making a silly joke - "don't buy the Lego version, wait until the inevitable Behringer copy of the same synthesiser". However, I didn't realise that Behringer had already released a copy - the Behringer Model D (and thus, spoiled my punchline!). Again, apologies for the lack of clarity.- 32 replies

Hello Headless, Yeah, I've tried all that. The neck pickup sounds great IMO....... I'll have another try with your recommendations later.

I'd maybe look for a stacked humbucker or double rail type that will fit the single coil rout but give significantly more output than most standard single coil J pups.

Do you count Squier and Epiphone as cheap copiers? Where would you draw the line?

1. In the Terrortones we had a guitarist who thought he could be in multiple bands including covers band. We simply booked so many gigs in advance that he wasn't available to play for anyone other than us. 2. So go to the venue in person early on a gig night and speak to the person who puts on bands. Alternatively have a look at who's playing there in the next few months and get in touch with the bands or the promotor asking them for a support. My band gets a lot of gigs like that. 3. Yes you should. We'll play anywhere within a 3 hour drive of Nottingham (and yes it does help to be centrally located) and we'll get further if either the promotor can put us up or pay enough for us to book a hotel. I'm in my 60s and will only stop gigging when I am no longer physically capable which I hope is still a long, long time away.

Isn't this indicative of how obsessed we are as players/fans with tonality beliefs (and the basses used thereof) and this just turns about-face and just slaps us in the jaw?
