To be fair, there is a certain amount of micturational extraction by Aliexpress sellers. I have found the sales people are often obsessed with commission at the expense of everything else, including their jobs. In their minds, so long as they are selling something that looks like the photo, any deviation in materials from the agreed specification isn't important to them. Their mindset is opportunistic, irresponsible and at times disingenuine...a bunch of cowboys. I had dealings with a company called Shenzhen Grand which left me out of pocket and with a bitter taste in my mouth at the games they were playing. They were good at making amps but their instruments were less playable than a wishbass. The good luthiers in China (and I have found one that could rival Fodera) don't need to sell on Aliexpress.

I've played them in shops and they sounded and felt a little lifeless acoustically. But the amplified sound is pretty good. I've ummed and ahhed over getting one but really need more playing time to decide and it's not like I can walk into a shop where I am and find one so it might have to wait until I'm back in the UK. In the meantime, the Moon MBC5TN I picked up a couple of years ago is virtually identical in construction apart from mahogany body wings so that itch has been scratched more or less.

Line 6 haven't updated the Helix hardware in years. It's starting to look a bit... tired. I thought they'd be chomping at the bit to release an upgraded version after the Quad Cortex took off, but no. I want to see an upgraded version of the POD Go - just stuff the guts of the HX Stomp in there and you've got a solid, compact single-box gigging solution, complete with expression pedal and built-in wireless. The current POD Go is a bit underpowered compared to the Helix or even the HX Stomp. A few more bass-oriented models wouldn't go amiss either, especially preamps.

Would there be this amount of whinging if it was a FSO instead of a Status-alike that nobody would take for a genuine Status? If not, why not?

I went again last night and it was fab. A really welcoming crowd especially the regulars. I chatted to lots of new faces and even had a dance. My friend got mistaken for a drug dealer but we put that to rest quickly. Amber had some compliments on how good she sounded being played with a pick and all was good with the World.

FWIW, I played and owned a lot of high-end basses over the years, and I'm in total agreement with all those who say that the Thumb is one of the best-sounding basses ever. It's a unique tone that makes a lot of the competition sound gutless by comparison. I think the five string version sounds even better because of the slightly different neck pickup placement, maybe. However, I'm also in agreement with those who can't live with the ergonomics. What's a comfortable and easily playable bass varies from player to player, but it's fair to say that the Thumb is very much a niche product when it comes to playability. If you're a big guy(or gal!) with long arms who does weightlifting then your going to fare better with a Thumb than a five foot five weakling who is used to playing a Fender-style bass. I can play a Thumb bass sitting down okay,but standing with the bass on a strap I struggle. That's why I haven't got one.

I don't think Reverb can be judged on the people who use their platform, they can't really take action without just cause. Last experience I had on Reverb was trying to land a pair of Alembic pickups for an upcoming project and the guy was pretty unreasonable just because I was in China. I could arrange and pay for my own door to door shipping and he still wanted 30 bucks. He eventually sold them for $100 less than he wanted from me. Similar situation with a rare Carvin FS77 footswitch for a guitar preamp I sold just recently, the seller kept flip flopping until he got a US based buyer. I've had good experiences with UK and European sellers though and the one time I needed support in dealing with a transaction that went a little awry, they stepped in promptly and chucked some Reverb credits at me to compensate for inconvenience.

I've, technically, bought one bass off Reverb, but only because I spotted a bass I wanted that was being sold by a dealer dealing through it. I then went to the dealer's own website and the bass was £800 less than advertised on Reverb, I expect due to their selling fees...Deal done and, although not needed, I expect the aftercare would have been much better if I'd dealt with the dealer directly rather than through Reverb. I'm not deluded in thinking I'm the only person who's done this.

It had ridiculous prices, I seem to remember, even for London but they had lots of media types and celebs ect as customers who had money to burn. It was the late '80's, and if you had it you were encouraged to flaunt it. I just had a quick rummage on the internet and I'm pleased to report that American Classics is still going and, yes, everything they sell is still ridiculously expensive and over-priced for what it is, just like it should be. I expect that nowadays middle aged men going through a fashion crisis are their customer base.

I needed a battery box and output jack for my 2016 EMBB Sterling so emailed string and things It took a couple of months of very slow back and forth but eventually I received a box the size of a small suitcase ( I kid you not ) with the parts I needed. I can't remember exactly how much but it was roughly £22 delivered for both parts which seemed fairly reasonable 🤔

Sorry fellow low enders. I seem to have bought the last Anagram Sweetwater had. I suspect most here order from a more European based distributor. Don't know how their stock is doing. But I consider myself lucky. Yes, I have a tracking number.

Screwing rubber feet onto shiny new Markbass cabs might affect your warranty, and with a lot of lightweight thinner walled cabs, there often isn't a great deal of wood to hold a screw for a decent sized rubber foot. I recently road tested an LFSYS Goodwood cab and it had no feet, but did have hard plastic stackable corners. At under 9kg, there wasn't a lot of weight to 'plant' it on a hard wood floor. The simple solution was to use a 'mighty mat' non slip carpet mat, the type that can be bought cheap at most DIY or convenience stores. Protects the cab, stops it slipping around, also protects the flooring, and no need for rubber feet. Saying that, I will always fit decently large rubber feet on bigger and used cabs and amp heads, even if they have stackable plastic corners like Markbass kit has. For brand new stuff with a warranty, I'd prefer using a mighty mat.
