Nick smith Signiture Bass
Grainger guitars replied to Grainger guitars's topic in General Discussion
The Nick Smith Midas charity build has taken another step forward with the high gloss finish being completed by T-Dog Customs. Toby is part of the Jaydee Bass family who all knew and loved Nick. Toby has very generously completed the finishing work on the body for free and we’re so pleased his work will be part of this special build 😊 -

Seven years ago I had an attack of Bell’s Palsy (facial paralysis), my vision was affected to the extent of not being able to drive or cross a busy street safely. To keep me going a generous guitarist friend came around to my house once a week and we played away acoustically, or quietly plugged-in, for a couple of hours. We even had a go at writing songs for the first time. I really looked forward to the sessions and they kept me going, musically, until my recovery. I hope you’ve got some pals like that. Good luck with the recovery and keep on rockin’ !

For sale is my Line 6 HX One. This offers the full set of approximately 250 Helix effects in one compact pedal, but only allows the use of one effect at a time. It's very easy to use, with a well thought out UI. Editing, saving and recalling presets is simple. The Flux function allows you to switch between two sets of parameters for a loaded preset, which gives more flexibility the you might expect. There's also a basic but effective tuner, accessible from the foot switches. You can control it via MIDI, and also connect additional external foot switches, although I have never explored those features myself. I used this as a single pedal for quite a few gigs where I just needed a chorus, distortion or octaver for one or two songs. Others use it as a replacement for several rarely used pedals on a larger board. I was impressed enough by the Helix effects to upgrade to a HX Stomp, hence the sale. In excellent condition. Supplied in box, with power supply. £170 including UK postage.

Laney Digbeth 500 head and matching 410 Vertical cab. Great sounding versatile rig, but due to an ongoing back and knee issue/injury I'm looking to downsize, I know what I am looking for so if unless anyone wants to trade for a Fender Rumble 800 Stage Combo, it’ll be a cash only sale. Head is 500w and has 3 channels (FET/Tube/mix) with selectable EQ and tilt switch (which is really useful). Has some marks in the tolex which I can send pics of. The Digbeth DBV410-4 is designed for the bass player who demands a powerful and dynamic single compact cabinet set up. Loaded with 4x10” vintage-voiced HH Black Label series ceramic drivers, the DBV410-4 is designed to accentuate the impressive midrange punch and tone of the drivers working together in a tuned cabinet. It delivers superb top-end tone thanks to the 1” LaVoce Compression driver, and its warm vintage tone is at home on any stage or studio gig. Cab has been gigged and has some light marks on the tolex, which I can send over pics of. Both items function perfectly. I would ideally like the both to go together as I really do think they’re a perfect match, I’ll chuck in a D’addario/Planet Waves speakon cable. If you wanting one or the other I’d be looking at £250 for the head and £350 for the cab or the both together for £550. Based in Saltney, collection preferred but meet-up/delivery within reason can be agreed. Any trial welcome.

Is this expensive or am I missing something?

Well that makes more sense. They really buried that rather important bit of info -
Hi all, it's time to move on this stunning bass as I've gone back to my Fender for most things. The bass is stunning in a custom colour, it has beautifully aged nickel hardware, roasted maple neck, block inlays and matching headstock - the full custom set! Body Wood: Alder Body Color: Altrosa (custom Color) High Gloss Neck Wood: Birdseye Roasted Maple Fretboard Wood: Roasted Maple Scale: 34", 5-String Pickups: 1 delano JMVC, 1 delano MCFE/PU split Preamp: John East J Retro Deluxe, passive tone control Special: Aged Nickel Hardware, Black Block Inlays, Matching Headstock Gig bag: Included Weighing in at just 4kg is super light with a very comfy fast neck. The custom colour, altrosa, is stunning and looks even better in person. I upgraded the preamp to a J Retro deluxe which gives more versatility and can really fatten up the sound in a way that the original preamp couldn’t. A few of minor dings to the nitro and one scratch on the back of the upper horn but in great condition. it will come with the original unused Sandberg gigbag. It’s a great bass so won’t be unhappy if it doesn’t sell. I would possibly consider trades plus cash but I'm picky and they must be light! Any questions let me know Thanks Dan

Well... Changed the battery under the Scratch Plate, inspected all the crazy EMG wiring under the Control Plate, and put on a fresh set of Elixir 40-95's and it sings. Never had a Bass with those active EMG's before and I have to say, it's a very balanced and punchy sound. Didn't even need to play with the action - it's already on the deck and relief looks perfect. I'd say it's a winner.

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?

I have the same problem Lozz, and the same solution. Damned cymbals…. -
That particular bass? NO. See my review on the Thomann site. No QC at all and no QC sticker on the back that the newer made basses have. I sent it back yesterday. Frets sticking out from the fretboard here and there, backplate loose since the brackets that hold the screws were loose. one of the potentiometers loose etc. The sound is great, many options to tweak the sound with just one pup. Thomann are sending me a replacement bass.

It's been typed in the "Condition Details" instead of the item description. Took me a minute to spot it too, not the usual place you'd look for this info. -
Compact budget PA set-up to put bass through (without back-line).
Woodinblack replied to Al Krow's topic in PA set up and use
Like this in fact - although I dont' know why he connects the mini jack with an adapter as you can connect any out to any in and it will work fine -

I think I'm just interested to hear about any preamp pedals that successfully give a specific character to a clean-ish sound. Obviously lots of them promise that, but which pedals have you plugged in and heard a definite, useful, specific tone?

Bought from Bass Direct and didn’t get on with it, I must be the exception as everyone seems to love them! Used on bass for a very short period at home only, so as new condition. Check for compatibility on Hipshot website but this fitted my Fender Player P Bass perfectly. Obviously has all the parts and screws and instructions in original box. Will post at cost (probably around £6) in UK. Any questions please ask!

Oh Gawd. Why is it that an instrument is thought to be worth stupid money because it has dead skin, dried sweat and bogies from somebody famous on it? -

I'm always amazed at the caring thoughtful comments people make on bc. When I'm not learning songs to play with bands i just play whatever comes into my head. Often diliberately playing as badly as i can to see what happens. After 15 minutes of not going anywhere something new and interesting usually emerges. Something that often tells me how I'm feeling that day. Good brain therapy. I hope the chemo works.
