I'm going to put this here, just for the sake of information should any ever have a desire to do the same thing. I swapped the magnets out on the aforementioned pickup, replacing the ceramic magnets with Alnico 5 to see what the difference is. To summarise, the output drops noticeably, and the main voice of the pickup moves up somewhere around the 1k range (to my ear at least). It starts to sound a bit like a Precision Bass pickup, but with less bottom end. I think a lot of the output in this pickup comes from the strong ceramic magnets, rather than the copper wire. Anyway, he's some pictures of the process should anyone else be mad enough to want to do this. If you are, you'll have to look at bar magnets for 7 string humbucker pickups to find something close to fitting. The original magnets are 67x13x5mm, which seems to be quite non standard. I got hold of a pair of A5 68.5x13x5mm and ground them down.

Just bought guitar and Darkglass Adam from Ander. He’s a credit to the Basschat community - trustworthy, friendly, communicative and very helpful. Really pleased with my latest purchases and would happily recommend Ander as he looks after his gear. cheers - juice

Putting up my natural gloss Spector CST5 . I’ve got two of these wonderful basses and one of them isn’t getting enough playing time .Bought in October 2024 from Bassdirect it’s had minimal use and is in fantastic condition. It’s a stock bass so comes with EMGX pickups in a PJ configuration with Darkglass legacy preamp . Also a Spector gigbag is included. Would consider a trade . MTD or similar 5 strings. No fanned fret as I already have a Dimension 5

A Very Happy Easter to all too. We finished with Phil Wickham's 'Living Hope' - a bit of an earworm of a chorus to send everyone out

NAD, some large scale Acoustic Control Corporation goodness
chriswareham replied to chriswareham's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks for the stairs warning - I've not played there before! I definitely prefer gigging the amp I'd like to use, no matter how impractical to transport, and plan to do so as long as my back and knees let me. I do have the 136 combo as a backup, although that's quite an awkward lump as well. -

I love Thievery Corporation. I discovered them, of all things, on a 4AD compilation. It was atypical of the label but I loved it. Didn’t try to explore the genre really, but did listened to more slow electronic, synth based music, some trip hop like Red Snapper and Archive.

Finger ramp is painted, so could be the pickups. Lovely work!

These are very rare and hard to find, hand built in Santa Cruz California. The M700 is Jule's take on a class D power amp. Instead of the usual ICE module (often pushed beyond its original spec), the M700 uses a Hypex module and the amp is conservatively rated at 700W into 4 ohms. Be warned that this is a real 700 watts of continuous power. I have been running this to power my Tech21 pre amp, and it is amazing the best power amp I believe in its class, very lightweight (weighs 7 pounds) and cool running temperature thanks to it's all aluminium construction. The M700 is designed to deliver a true 700 watts RMS and offers two speakon connections. I will include a lightweight flight case in the sale. this may be withdrawn at any time as I have been offered a trade sale. Offers welcome thanks for looking.
