  2. I'm not sure about this one, I might still change my mind, it's one of the best basses I've ever owned, but (very big but) it is really heavy. According to my cheap luggage scales it's 4.9Kg. I bought it here around 10 years ago, I used it for wedding gigs until my back hurt too much, sold it to a friend then bought it back again because it's so nice - I sort of forgot about the weight issue. It has a John East J retro fitted (John kindly provided a matching switch for the coil split too, so it looks very neat). My friend kept the original Glockenlang preamp for another bass when I bought it back, but I didn't like the eq on it anyway. My friend managed to dig a big thumb hole by the bridge pickup in the short time he had it, and it has a few dings on the headstock, picked up at gigs over the years (see pics). Apart from that it's in good condition. The only reason to let this go would be to get something more useful for me, short scale 5 (wilcock), or a hollow body (Warwick or Ibanez?) or a Genzler Kinetix. If you have a strong back, or like heavy instruments, this might be among the best basses around. PS the photos were taken on a really sunny day, it usually doesn't look so red, it's normally closer to brown, but the matt sunburst changes depending on the light - I love it. Edit to say, I have the original Sandberg gig bag (practically unused) I'd prefer collection in Edinburgh, or meet within reasonable distance, particularly given the weight...

    Bassman666

Just acquired a Dingwall Droc from bassman666 and couldn’t be happier. bass came really well packaged & communication was great throughout. I would have no reservations in buying gear again from him.
  5. A passive stingray will still sound like a stingray, but a bit more tame. It's the pickup type+position that define a good part of the sound. It will sound nowhere near a P.
  6. Yes but thats the case now for almost every known bass player. They almost have to be influencers as well and have multiple brands they work with. Before IG/YT influencing really took off, it was more about visibility - live shows, crowd sizes, TV appearances..etc would get you the free stuff or artist discounts.
  7. Thank you. There's a ton of these from this project, maybe 20 complete and another 10 part-demoed. Inevitably, [it] experienced a falling out...a keyboard player arrived out of the blue; the guy was just awful, terrible player and a genuinely horrible personality. There were a few heated emails and the guy I'd been working with for a year and a half just replied with one that read, 'OK, I quit,' and that was it. We never spoke again!
  8. Ahhh I know, I wanna put together a 2.1 or 2.2 board but love the patch bay. Was tempted to get the dremel out and try to cut a hole for it myself 🤣
  9. Hi @KiOgon/John, Yes, I do know that you make looms for people on here, to their total satisfaction. I didn’t realise they were solderless though. Since you are here, can you confirm that there are no industry standard connectors? Are your looms using some types of connectors where one can just insert the wires from their pickups and be done? It’s all out of curiosity. I was thinking of swapping some pickups out of a bass as a project and maybe make it an opportunity to learn to solder properly and create a harness - but one where I could swap pickups (and ground wires) easily (solderless).
  10. I've changed my mind about selling this bass more times than a 78 year old might about setting up some trade tariffs, but its time to make some space. Per £ this is probably the best bass you can buy. I modified the headstock to get a more Tele-bass-esque appearance so the HB logo has gone (sorry Thomann!). Its not quite Tele shaped but it is very close to the tempate I downloaded. The headstock is finished in a satin varnish and I added a fictitious maker's logo (I think Seido means Precision in Japanese). Apart from the headstock mod this one is like new except for a couple of tiny thumb nail sized indentations on the neck that are barely visible and certainly can't be felt whilst playing (see pic with the pick). How about £90 posted, £75 if we meet up at say any London mainline station. Cheers, Mick

  12. I have a clone and I like the bass but I’m not over fond of the bright sound. could a push pull pot be fitted in place of volume and would it sound like a P when in passive ?
  13. … the underside is like my boards bigger brother ha ha 😆. Love the patch bay power on the Rockboards, shame it won’t fit on my 2.0 one!
  14. Part of the reason for Randy's statement is because the burst power was significantly higher than the continuous power. The power supply is not typical, there is an awful lot of energy storage which holds the supply voltage higher than is typical. While it's a little harder on the tubes, the clean (or undistorted) dynamic power increase is few dB over the continuous power rating which, along with the voicing choices, contributes to a loud, dynamic sounding amp. While the continuous power is around 350-400 watts RMS, the dynamic (also called burst but rather than 20mSec, it's closer to 100mSec) power is closer to 600-800 watts RMS. This is on the 400+ with capable tubes.
  15. Yes...thx for your interest...Bernard
  16. Thanks @Quatschmacher, that is much appreciated. The interface shows in the editor: ....but then moving the FI sliders does not do anythign on the FI. (I have tried swopping Midi cables, and this is while not in the 'update'mode). There is a simple app for my interface, and ASIO setting changes via Reaper DAW, but no options for sysex messages: The interface usb is going direct to the Laptop (no USB hub), and everything else is closed - no other USB things plugged in, no other programmes running. Perhaps the Midi thru functionality is the issue, but the UA Volt app only has simple Status/Sample Rate/Buffer things that can be changed, Midi thru isn't an option. I might order a second Midi interface from Amazon with free returns to see if that solves it. A cheap Becos ones worked for me with v3 (I don't have either any more), but I remember a certain aount of un-intuative faff needed (something like the order of turning things on, only working with Chrome, not other internet tabs open) and then it was still a bit hit and miss. It reminds me a bit of a time I worked for a mining association - miners kept jumping over a dangerous rock conveyor to get to the break/smoke area instead of the long walk around, some got hurt, the mine response was put up a big sign saying 'do not cross the conveyor', people still did it and got hurt and the mine response was 'user error - we told them not to' and then they spent a lot of money on fences which mysteriously started getting human-sized holes in them. The issue was the lacking human centred design. I dunno, but FI editing and updates via Midi just seeems a bit fraught with 'user error', things like Source Audio, TC electronic, Line 6, Boss etc (admittedly much bigger complanies) all seem to be relatively simple via usb, 'plug into Laptop and it works'. The only other thing I've had so much connectivity faff with has been the NUX MLD Preamp.
  17. Few things in life are as aggressive as the G&L MFD. The G&L will get you a lot closer to the sound you're looking for than the DJ.
  18. It can work well in the right setting. I’ve been considering picking up the newish Fender bass reverb since it allows you to filter out the low end from the reverb signal, as you don’t want too much of the low frequencies being reverberated.
  19. Thanks for this. I quite enjoyed that. Mark
  20. It's fun going back and hearing your younger self and realising what kind of player you were then. When we had a 25 years reunion of our R&B/boogie band we got the tapes out, and discovered none of us could play that fast anymore!!
  21. I’m not sure, but Bartolini rings a bell. I just remember he was getting so much work for electric upgrades and repairs he thought what else can I do to improve the fenders. Quite a lot it turned out!
  22. Well, this has been a fairly interesting journey. Hours of frankly terrible church hall recordings going back to when I was about 13, through to some fairly decent studio reels. Runs from punky originals, through metally stuff, the white soul boy years and then stops with a few tapes of stuff I recorded in a local studio as audition tapes for band/label prospecting. I also unearthed a pair of three-track demos I did with a band when I was 18 or 19, the first was self-financed (£65! I remember this distinctly) and the second funded by Polydor (this is another story). Dates cut off late 90s. Interesting. Despite my punky/alternative roots, re-listening to the WSB stuff was the most interesting. I was writing with a bloke up in Ealing; I'd decamp there for an entire Saturday, every Saturday for about 18 months, and we'd just immerse ourselves and write. His wife would do a nice lunch, we'd work through the afternoon and I'd get home around 6.00pm. Programmed drums. From memory, I was using a Warwick Streamer 5LX...my first foray into a 5-string. Sadly it was never going to be a live thing, purely writing and recording (I had a 50% share in a 24 track studio, so it was a good vehicle for that). I'm very pleased to hear these again. For now, the tapes go back in the box. I'll probably never listen to them again! If you're interested: https://on.soundcloud.com/u5PWooGdoLMkJ1426
