Sounds fine, but not the Holey Grail it claims to be. -

Hi all, Here we have my Fernandes Gravity 5x. Bought last year as a back up to my Warwick, but now being sold as I'm trying to move away from 5s and am looking for a different sound. There's not a lot of info out there about these, as they seem to be quite uncommon. It dates from 2008 and is made in China. Twin single coil pickups with vol, vol, tone. Simple as it gets. Tonally it's got a quite aggressive sound, the twin Jazz pickups are really high output, with a really punchy sound. You'll note the front pickup is moved towards the bridge compared to the usual J/J set ups, definitely gives it a funkier, mid-rangey sound. The tone pot is effective all the way round, giving a wide sweep of different tones (and a really funky rear pickup sound). B-string was the biggest surprise for me on this bass. It's very taught and defined, better than many other basses I've had at 4/5x the price. It's in 9/10 condition. It recently had a brand new input jack installed and plays very cleanly across all frets. A nice first foray into a 5 string for someone, or a great reliable, good sounding backup. Weight is a lovely 3.9 kg. Collection from Moreton in Marsh, which is located on the Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire/Warwickshire border. Will happily meet up within an hour's drive for handover, or a bit further for a small petrol contribution (purely due to the low cost of the bass). Thanks for looking!

Beer of the Bass started following Gut strings for Jazz
-
I'm guessing those are the Indian made guts that a few different sellers have. Most of the classic gut string jazz sounds would use a plain gut G and D and a silver wound gut E and A, and the ones one the link are all plain. Plain gut on the lower strings is hard to get a good pizzicato sound with and I only see them being used by a few slap players.

is this really just a cut down Quad Cortex for bass players ? I'm just wondering if it's worth it along with an already purchased QC ?
-
How much synchronisation do you want between the band performance and projections?
-
If we’re happy to stand by while artists get ripped off, why should we care when it happens to musicians?

BTW reviewed the Michael League signature model a little while ago.. Sounds nice... like any good P bass. -
We had exactly this problem when we played Whitby last year at The Brewery. Being the first band on and the last to set up with all three bands using lots of DIs we ended up being routed through channels on the desk that were rarely used. The backing was a bit weedy sounding on stage, no kick drum and all very upper mids, so I stepped off to go and ask the PA engineer, if something could be done, and then realised it sounded even worse FoH. Turns out that the channels it was going through had the bass very aggressively rolled off. As soon as the EQ was reset to flat it sounded much better, and we were able to get a much better sound very quickly after that. And it's probably just as well you didn't try and get in touch as I was in the middle of setting up for my own gig and generally don't bother with any kind of social media when I'm gigging. I only carry a phone for emergency calls or texts if there is a problem getting to or back from the gig and since this time the venue was 10 minutes walk from where we were staying and everyone I might want to contact was in the audience, I didn't even bother bringing it to the gig!

I was a T900 user and it’s true they are very uncoloured and loud They can offer warm and woolly too using one control to vary the amp sound I too used one with a Vanderkley cab and it was a superb pairing and best I had used .

Beer of the Bass started following 15 or not 15? What do you think?
-
My takeaway from the video was less about them being 15s, and more about how some of those older driver designs have a really pleasing thing going on in the mids and highs, if they're used without pushing their limits too hard. The others have portability and overall volume advantages, but that Trace cab is an immediately likeable bass sound for me.

franzbassist started following FMC 1210UL and 112UL cabs from Germany
-
Given my impending redundancy I am thinning my collection of music gear, and here we have two of these most excellent cabs for sale, handmade in Germany by Hans Struck. Both are in very good to mint condition and come with high quality padded sleeves custom-made by Hot Covers here in the UK. Pricing these is difficult as they are rare in the UK, and to import them now from Germany would (I believe) attract import duties as well as shipping. I am asking £500 for the 1210 and £300 for the 112, and the cabs are collection only. I've used stock photos as holding images, but please note that the cabs in these images have tweeters fitted whereas mine do not. 120UL This cab has a 12" neo speaker at the bottom and a 10" neo speaker at the top. There is no tweeter. Power handling is 600 watts RMS and the dimensions are 65.5cm high, 41.5cm wide and 41 cm deep. Weight is quoted at 17.3 kg but I recall it being more like 14 kg. Impedance 4 ohms. To quote the FMC site "The speaker sounds more powerful than a 210, it has the transparency of the 10" and the bulkiness and centre focus of the 12" speaker. Altogether a modern and open-sounding box with plenty of depth. New price in Germany is €754 (£641). A really good one cab solution for small to medium size pubs and suchlike. 112UL As simple as it gets, this cab has a 12" neo speaker. There is no tweeter. Power handling is 300 watts RMS and the dimensions are 45cm high, 42cm wide and 41 cm deep. Weight is quoted at 11 kg. Impedance 8 ohms. To quote the FMC site "Super light 1x12" boxes with small dimensions. Equipped with neodymium speakers from the brand manufacturer Sica. With our innovative downfire bass reflex system, a voluminous bass that is also sufficient for 5 strings. The forced mids make the speaker very easy to locate in the band structure. New price in Germany is €545 (£463). Perfect for rehearsals and small gigs.

I took a short-scale bass in a gig bag as hand luggage and had no issues, just made sure it met their size limits and boarded early so there was overhead space.
