I've got a bright sound (Pyramid), sometimes it sounds like a fretless bass because there is a lot of sustain.

A bit off topic. The Shrewsbury Folk Festival this year has The Bar Steward Sons Of Val Doonican on the bill. If you have time to kill, trawling the acts appearing on various UK festivals this year has some wonderfully crazy band names. One of my favourites is Colonel Mustard and The Dijon 5.

The risk taking argument really only applies to what in realistic terms can be judged to be real investment risk. Where it is being used as a vehicle to subsidise unrealistically low PAYE income then, yes, it's avoidance ( unless HMRC / Courts find it to be evasion).

I put LaBella black nylon strings on a large bodied fretless acoustic (Guild) and they suited it extremely well. It was short scale and they had the right amount of tension to prevent it from being too slappy but still give a bit of that upright sound. That’s where they excel IMO: fretless and acoustic basses. However, that’s based on one set of LaBellas, I haven’t tried any other makes and I haven’t tried them on a fretted bass.

Dave, The marina is nice, however I like those steps up to the stage. Even 10 years ago,I didn't care about stuff like steps. But now when I get to a gig and I notice there's no steps, in my advanced years I'm like "Come on" guys "Really ? ". Is that an unreasonable attitude for me and some of the pensioners here that have been out there gigging for 50 years? Lol Daryl

For sale, I have 6 Celestion BN-200 neo drivers available in very good used condition from a recently dismantled 6x10 which became too much to haul. Currently retailing at £115 just about everywhere I think it's a fair saving. Super lightweight compared to ceramic, 200 watt and 8 ohms. Buy singles or in pairs, quads, it's up to you and your project/upgrade. Postage negotiable dependent on numbers purchased. Cheers.

I just got one of these Landlord "A Cheeky Pint" compressors to try it on my "small board" and so far I quite like it. It's not transparent like e.g. my Orange Kongpressor can be: the Tone control is boosting frequencies, but I like the result with the EQ at around 9-o'clock in "Half Pint" mode. On the "Full Pint" mode I think the EQ is a bit too aggressive and it loses a little low end, so I would only recommend the "Half Pint" mode for bass.

Yep that's a good point Daryl. If i make a mistake i usually apologize in the dressing room and the guys do the same but its done in good humour and everyone accepts that sometimes we make mistakes. Its live music and it occasionally happens. When someone does that the rest of us are usually unaware of the mistake as its been such a minor issue. Most of the time the audience never notice a band making a mistake provided you all look confident and just carry on as if it was meant. The Jazz version of a Glam song Dave

I had a set of black tapewound, Rotosound I think.. quite a dark sound to them. I would say they were medium tension. -

I recently acquired a Barefaced SuperMini (1x12, 8 ohm, rated for 600W). My only amp at the moment is an Elf, which will put out 130W into 8 ohms. I've not had a chance to use this combination in anger yet, though we have a band rehearsal next weekend when I can give it some welly. The band is pretty loud, and up till now I've been using the Elf with a (Mesa? 4x10?? 4x12??) cab that is in the rehearsal room we use, and it's been plenty loud enough, though I've no idea what the ohmage of that cab is. I've also read that some cabs don't give their best sound when "underpowered" - no idea if this is true or a myth. Any thoughts on whether/how this combination is likely to work out? I should add that I am playing keys in this band, but am looking to join a second band as a bass player, and want the setup to work for either scenario. I know, I know, the sensible answer is wait to try it out and see, but am curious as to your opinions.

100% Chris 4 yrs ago while working in the garden i was so out of breath while digging a hole to bury one of our cats that had passed away i had to stop and take a break. I was just under 15st but covid era just made things worse. I decided i was either very unfit or something seriously wrong. I decided to start the gym and within 3-4mths i had lost 2st and was feeling a lot fitter. Went for 2 yrs to get myself fitter then took on a personal trainer for 10 sessions every 6mths just to push me a bit and give me new ideas to try on my own. (my wife also goes so we work together) A year ago we were asked to attend the ABS class and loved it altho quite hard work, that class changed to a circuit training class which was seriously hard work and then a friend we knew in the gym just thru going 3 times a week became a PT doing weight lifting and we thought we'll go to the first class to show some support for him and loved it. I'm now 12st 11lbs but still love my crisps. Now i do the Barbell Blast class on Monday morning, Circuit class on Wed evening and on a Fri morning we do our own thing which is a combination of everything really. I feel fitter now than i have done for 20 yrs. I dont have any issues doing jobs around the house and lifting gear at gigs isn't a problem now. Yes i do get the aching back when standing for long rehearsals and should definitely sit down more. At a young 65 i'm doing good tho. Dave
