  2. There is no real benefit in using a 4 ohm cabinet, and they are not that common. A good single 10 will more than suffice as long as it is sensitive enough,
  3. They come as standard with the 734a and BBPH, probably a few others too. Really good quality, I use it for all my basses.
  4. Enabler
  5. NBD - short scale Graft Plus. Latest addition to my growing ACG collection. My 32" SLG is amazing in every way, but I still had an itch for a short scale that needed scratching! NBD was actually Thursday, but on Saturday a set of La Bella Low Tension Flats went on, and I thought I'd take it along to the gig! It plays beautifully and is so light and comfortable.
  6. Hard Stare...or a commendation for lawyerly rule bending?
  7. How the choice of a tant indirectly brought down a company. Probably.
  8. Oh wait I've misjudged. The 1966 Daphne Blue Mustangs also had pearloid.
  9. Here we have my 2013 ‘crafted in china’ Squier classic vibe Precision in the lovely Fiesta red. I’ve changed the Bridge to a knurled saddle 60’s type and added the tug bar, have the original which the buyer is more than welcome to have as well. It’s also wearing labella flatwounds (which were not cheap!) that are well broken in now. Condition is a solid 10/10 I think! Get your custom shop Pino vibes going for substantially less loot! No case / gig bag as it stands but I can probably find something if it sweetens the deal for the buyer. Based in the Bridgend area of South Wales and would rather not ship, but I’m willing to discuss delivery / meet up within a reasonable distance. Not looking for trades at the moment, shifting a few things to raise funds for a special upcoming birthday!

  10. The service sheets I'm seeing don't seem to specify the cap types - just capacitance values. Will have a look later to see where in the circuit it seems to be. Ahh the old tants vs elects controversy not so long ago while doing some other work on a Neve preamp copy I replaced the electrolytics with tantalums as per the original Neve design - whilst crossing myself and facing mecca and consulting a psychiatrist.
  11. Traditionally, tants were used for coupling as they could take small reverse polarity volts better than the electros of the day. Nowadays they're used where electros cant do small enough size/low enough esr/high enough capacitance all at once. Theyre a last resort at the last place i worked. They do flame quite amusingly when they lose their tempers though.
  12. Here we have my USA Peavey Rudy Sarzo Bass. Not sure how you’d date it but it must be early 90’s I’d guess.. Bought this last year and it was in need of some TLC. Overall it’s in good shape for a bass now over 30 years old. Certainly not perfect but definitely a lot better than when I got it! Total mods/upgrades as follows: EMG pickups added - models 35P4 / 35J, these are a reverse P and a J pickup in soapbar housings. Bespoke pickup rings made to cover the existing routs. EMG preamp installed - BQS system, vol, pan, bass/mid/treble with mid sweep. Control Cavity shielded (not necessary but I had some tape lying around!) Bridge and Tuners replaced with black Schallers. 3D bridge and M4 tuners which were drop in replacements for the original gold coloured ones. Also spent a lot of time on the case, it was a bit Wiffy! - it’s functional albeit when open it doesn’t hold in an ‘L’ shape, the straps attached to the lid must be stretched and so it falls all the way open like a book. I have all the original parts which the buyer is more than welcome to take as well, included in the price. All together there’s over £400 worth of upgrades here so I think the asking price is fair. Based in the Bridgend area of South Wales and would rather not ship, but I’m willing to discuss delivery / meet up within a reasonable distance. Not looking for trades at the moment, shifting a few things to raise funds for a special upcoming birthday!

  13. Even when they do spec the fr, I don't believe it https://www.musicstore.com/en_GB/GBP/Ampeg-SVT-810-E-Box-800W-4-Ohm-8x10-Speaker/art-BAS0000443-000
  14. That is a good question. Wish I could answer it with 100% certainty. I can only say from experience working on these type of boards. Tant's are as far as I am aware more expensive, have a longer life span, and from experience seem to have tighter tolerance than comparable electrolytics so are more stable. Yes, on these boards, and also on most Ashdown amps in recent years, tants are often employed as input couplers. Most schematics for these type amps specify components are replaced with the same original part specification which for me at least is good enough reason to replace like with like.🙂
  15. I've had these a while, using them in various amps with valve preamp stages, but my move away from such amps means they are now surplus: Mullard ECC83 - code B6B3 means made in Blackburn, third week of February in either 1956, 1966 or 1976 = £50 Mullard ECC83 - (code backward3)91 means made in Chelmsford for Mullard by Marconi, but not sure how to date the rest = £50 Mullard ECC81 - no code that I can see = £25 Caveat Emptor: I have tested them in my Demeter amp and they are all working fine at time of writing, but as always with old valves be aware they can fail at any time. Please do bear that in mind before you buy.

  16. Dingwall tort scratchplate (NG or Combustion 3/5) SOLD Tiny Tone light mint scratchplate, new and unused (NG or Combustion 3/5) £40 posted The mint is hard to photograph well, but it's a little more minty than in the picture
  17. Think this looks fab, unfortunately out of my range right now so have a bump on me
  18. Tantalum capacitors are usually not recommended for audio circuits so why do you think the electrolytic is worse, or am I reading your reply wrong?
  19. I am not judging people wot use backing tapes, I just think it's sad that a, they have to, and b, the audiences accept it. It somehow devalues the art of music making for me. The tragedy is that, when you look on line, there are so many monster players but, when you go out to watch live music, you get half arsed shite badly performed against backing tapes. I think we deserve better (by we I mean the listening public). And don't get me started on A.I.

  22. Excellent, he's just great craic isn't he? 👌🏼 I loved his podcasts during lockdown, and in particular his hilarious anecdote about recording for Michael Jackson - I think it was for Earth Song (look it up, I won't spoil it if you've not seen it!) Great trick with the strings and foam on the Telecaster bass too 😳👏🏼 And interviewed with an upturned collar and ripped shirt sleeve 🤣 Brilliant GP 👍🏼
