andruca started following Schecter - Do we care?
-
I've owned a CV-5 and loved it, except for the fact that despite the J-buckers' and coil tap switches' versatility it couldn't sound like a Jazz Bass. I now own a J5 and totally love it. Schecter is awesome quality, and their thin C neck profile is just superb 👍

Will Basschat survive the Online Safety Act?
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
Even if you trust Ofcom to be proportionate under a set of rules that are clearly disproportionate, then compliance and dealing with an investigation costs money. Money that a lot of smaller forums just do not have. Some might have to close simply because of that. The court system is full of appeals due to disproportionate sentencing of all types. There is no reason to think this will be any different. -
Hello, I'm selling this MXR Bass Compressor. It's in almost new condition, with the original box. I'm sure everyone knows what to expect with these now - a nice and natural sounding comp, that's easy to use, with great visual metering too. I'm asking £115, which includes next day delivery. Any questions, shoot me a message. Thanks.

tayste_2000 started following Rickenbacker 2009 Mapleglo 4003

Had the opportunity to get a birth year Mapleglo Ric (so I took it, because of course you would). So up for sale is this great condition 2009 Mapleglo Rickenbacker in an effort to offset the cost of exactly the same bass but older. All original, great working order, no major dings or dents that I can see. Strung with D’addario Chromes and has the push pull pot on the second volume. Please note this comes with the pickup cover shown in the first picture and not the thumb rest treble bezel. Happy to ship this anywhere in the UK else, it’s available for collecting from Stockport area of Manchester. Bass comes with the official Rickenbacker Hardcase, but as I flew with it, it’s a bit dented and bent out of shape. It still works, I just wouldn’t recommend flying with it again and never should in the first place. (Pics in next post) Open to offers but no trades

Who is that then...? Sounds very interesting... -
...and if your bass is hi-Z ("passive"), or lo-Z, the fuzz/OD/dist pedal will sound different. Your options are: - works with your bass, put the pedal right after the bass - you have many basses with different outputs, a buffer or another pedal in front of the crunch pedal may be in order - buy all crunches that work with your basses And do lots of testing to find your own. I tried several side by side. EBS was terrible (for me that is), most of the Darkglasses likewise (except Duality), Muff's popularity I didn't get at all, Boss pedals were a chore... The variety of fuzz/OD/dist pedals (and even rack units) is so wide, that I really recommend using your own bass when testing. I even have one board for hi-Z basses, and two boards with different fuzzes (and compressors) for lo-Z basses. Believe me or not, you cannot mix and match every pedal with every bass.

As it is the strings look slightly out of alignment so I reckon that is a good move to start with.

I don't care, didn't really think about targetting. I'm just using the same parochial view that is frequently trotted out, but in reverse to prove a point.

But are extremely unlikely to. This will be retrospective, if someone comes to harm, there will be an investigation and the owner will have to show they assessed the risk, mitigated it. Any punishments will be proportionate. They're not going to take someone's house and throw them in jail for running a small local forum. -

They did an "enhancement" and "designed" the Corvette that looks a bit like a Gus bass. Every time I see a Thumb, I like it, but a Corvette makes me laugh. Thumb is one good sounding bass, but the Dolphin was something I wanted, although never bought. They were expensive and rare from the start.

It's the owners not really understanding the implications. It's the old 'Health and Safety gone mad' syndrome, where people are just stopped from doing things by people who catastrophise everything. -

To feet or not to feet, that is the question...
Phil Starr replied to TRBboy's topic in Amps and Cabs
I hope you don't mind me using this image but it illustrates the problem for manufacturers. If you look at the top left corner has two diagonal ridges and three hollows. Top right has three ridges and two hollow channels. When stacked the corners on the top cab interlock with those on the bottom and the riges are thick enough that the bottom panel is held clear of the floor. The corner is also the foot. The fitted round feet are obviously better than the corners in clearing the floor but will stop the cabs interlocking. If I were buying two cabs to stack I would expect interlocking corners and which manufacturer wouldn't want their cabs to stack neatly. It drives you nuts though if there is a top handle and the corners wont separte the cabs enough to accomodate the handle and the top cab rocks. You can't suit all of the people all of the time. -

The age check thing is particularly crap. At one end it could be a renewed log-in / account creation wording with multiple click throughs like Apple T&C or it could require the mods to actually see official documents which would cause a massive GDPR nightmare. There's no guidance on what is "sufficient" so Ofcom will have the power to shut down any site that just annoys them. When site owners are outside of the UK Ofcom will just order the web companies to block access completely. There are dozens of tiny forums set up for things that are far more important than bass guitars or hamsters - disease support forums, addiction forums etc etc. Anonymity is a vital part of their work. And the bit about videos and other stuff being "objectionable" is undefinable and ridiculous. Everything is objectionable to someone. You just know that someone is going to report a forum for "promoting" pineapple on pizza as being objectionable, and Ofcom are going to have to wade through all that crap. The test should be whether something is illegal or not. -

I'd start with the cheap. All you hear in these clips is recorded with a Zoom MS-60B (it's a review, just linking the sound demo points). It can do SansAmp (has an emulation from factory), it can do Darkglass (a blendable RAT emulation fakes it nicely, further Zoom generations have a specific Darkglass emulation I definitely like a lot less than this -sounds BOXY-). I plug into any amp/PA/interface with these tones and they just work. My "clean" SansAmp tone, what I use for anything fingerstyle/slap... My overdriven SansAmp (Ampeg'ish) tone, what I usually use for picked punk/HC or heavy handed fingerstyle... My Darkglass tone, what I use for modern metal, almost exclusively with a pick... I've always found it EASY to copy any tone with Zoom's MultiStomp/B3/B1on/B1Xon generation. Just to give you an example, I've been happy with GumaDRIVE (B3K clone) pedal for a couple weeks after building it with my bro. That was until I took about 15min to have both units side by side and cloned the tone with a Zoom. I've used the GumaDRIVE for recording only eversince. Zooms can simply sound any way you like, there's MANY flavors of each effect to choose from (specially when it comes to overdrives), and effects that need it have a blend parameters to mix in uneffected signal. It's ultra flexible. You just need to know what you want and understand enough not to just randomly move knobs (and also be familiar/comfortable with tweaking, not for everybody, I know). There is a bass Metal Zone emulation on Zooms too, if you'd like to explore what Danny Sapko suggests here (somewhat effective, but original tone is more fuzzy -I like it less-, but you can also get that from a Zoom)...

Hamster weekly shut down?? and others? This is madness. How on earth are all these inoccuous little websites dangerous? I think there's going to be a groundswell of objection to all this and each site will be judged on whether or not it is dangerous to young people or not. Basschat as an eg ....dangerous? I think not. -
I bought some b-stock Novation / Focusrite stuff before, no issues, good prices. I also found a Startouch ABY pedal for like £60, amazing catch! But there were a couple years ago, nowdays I could never see a decently priced pedal there whenever I checked.

Something like this rubber nonslip mat, with a soft carpet top. Rolls up and fits in the gig bag easily too.

Reverb has been fine for me. Have used it several times and never failed yet. Like ebay, amazon and others, it's just a means for you to engage with a mix of independent private and commercial sellers. I never had any trouble, studying feedback and past sales always pays off. To this day, the worst packed thing I ever bought was from here, the hardcase with a single strip of brown packing tape around it, bass inside, no other packaging material at all. I still love this place, though 🙂
