Warwick Rockbass Streamer LX5 ***PRICE DROP NOW £600***

Bought brand new back in December 2023, features all the bells and whistles you’d expect from the GK stable - 4 band EQ, contour switch (for scooped mids) and boost switch. I’ve used it a fair bit this year, but the only issue with it is something was dropped on it at some point, denting one of the rear corners. Doesn’t affect the sound or the structure of the casing, so otherwise it is in great condition. It has recessed side handles and casters attached which are easily removed, and comes with a custom made padded cover made by HotCovers. These retail for around £1100 new (without the cover), looking to shift it pretty rapidly as I have gigs pending, so the asking price is £700. I am open to sensible offers…. Selling because it’s too big for my needs. Located on the Isle of Wight, but can meet at any of our ferry ports (Portsmouth/Southampton/Lymington/Southsea) for collection. I can also personally deliver for an additional £50 to cover my ferry fare, within a sensible distance, London or an equivalent location distance wise would probably be my limit. Thanks for looking. 😊

Schnozzalee started following Acoustic bass (Ibanez)

Yep - they're the ones! I have managed to dial out a lot of the brightness without making them muddy sounding, plus I've played the newness out of them anyway. Just wondered if there were any other options to consider.....🤔

Sound like this:
-
Did it come with the nylon core, bronze coated ones like upscaled classical guitar strings? They're usually standard on that size of acoustic bass now. D'addario make a set for the Taylor Baby Bass and Ibanez use them.
-
I play mine through a Phil Jones Double Four, which allows me to keep up with an acoustic guitar and fiddle........
-
Yes, that was also true. That is exactly why I saw it as pointless everyone soloing every piece as all you got was generally the same solos repeated every time.
-
And it served me very well too. But from the get go there was something iffy about it, particularly the neck. In its life it had at least three cracks in different places so there must have been some dodgy wood used. And I kept it in an unheated room. Here it is with past friends in happier times.

Ok so I’m getting ready for recording so figured why not go a bit mad using the ML10x under the hood to split the signal between two amps yes I get four muff in parallel is extra but sounds glorious -
SamIAm - mystery solved (unhappily)
BassTractor replied to Steve Browning's topic in General Discussion
Much saddened by this. Sam clearly was a very decent human. I believe her contribution to NHS as well as BC will be remembered. May she rest in peace. Thank you, Steve, for caring enough. -

My acoustic bass is always amplified when we do 'acoustic' sessions. I tried it unamplified last week (playing with 2 acoustic guitars and four ukeleles) in advance of an acoustic gig on Saturday and not only could I not hear it but no one else could either. I am now using my hollow body Ibanez which sounds better amplified. I don't think I'll be using the acoustic again unless it's for show.

Sadly, I need to let go of my very special Spector NS Pulse II 5-string bass. Asking price is £1,000. I replaced the Tone Pump Jr pre-amp with a multi-coil filtering pre-amp from Lusithand Devices. Stock EMG pickups, not had a chance to swap them out with an actual multi-coil pickups but sounds amazing even without. If you are after the Wal sound, this setup will get you very close. Excellent condition, no scratches or dings, low action, no buzz, straight neck etc. UK buyers only. I'd prefer collection in person, but happy to post it via UPS or similar service (no evri) at the buyer's expense. Hard case included in price. Any questions, let me know! Specs: Body Wood: Solid Swamp Ash Neck Wood: 3-piece Roasted Maple; Bolt on Fretboard: Macassar Ebony Number of Frets: 24 Inlays: Dots Nut: Graphite Nut Width: 1.75" Scale: 35" Neck: EMG 40DC Bridge: EMG 40DC Bridge: Hi-mass Locking Tuners: Sealed Die-cast String Spacing at Bridge: .66"

Not so sure about that. She worked as a cardiology research nurse for the last 21 months, so it may also be related to her work interest. I see on her LinkedIn she was forced to give up her job as an ICU nurse because of a lower back injury. I figured there might be more on her X-account, but I can't read it as I don't have one. For those who do, it's https://x.com/samiam_uk

I ended up buying the Alto TX12S in the end. I was quite put off by a lot of the other ones in my price range due to the weight. This one is only ~20 kg. All the others I was looking at were >40kg. We don’t have a particularly sophisticated PA and we only play small venues (pubs mainly), so I’m hoping this budget Alto sub can get the job done!

IME unless it's for noodling at home only, or you have the budget for something expensive with a very large body you are going to have to use it with amplification. This brings with it all the issues of handling noise and depending on the volume required possibly also feedback. Also a lot of the less expensive "acoustic" basses don't sound that great when amplified. I agree that image could be an important factor here, but on the few occasions that I have played "acoustic" gigs I've just used a decent short-scale solid body bass with the treble rolled off and it sounded fine. If image was more important I'd look for a cheap hollow-body with magnetic pickups.

Tube power stage vs Class-D (effective power)
Tech21NYC replied to Paddy Morris's topic in Amps and Cabs
I have to disagree with you there because the same holds true when comparing a 50-100 watt SS guitar amp with their tube counterparts. I'm not talking about what most players would consider "distorted." 30-40% is quite distorted. I doubt most guitarists on these forums are playing archtops. Tube amps are usually rated "clean" at 5-15% THD. The guitar amp is 1/2 the instrument. It's musical instrument "production" vs reproduction which is what SS amps are designed for. You used to work for Mesa Boogie right? Randy said old school "engineers" thought he was nuts try to make an amp "intentionally" distort. While I will agree with you that it's way easier to listen to a loud bass amp vs guitar amp, the problem with bass (or low end in general) is that when you start getting down to 200Hz the bass frequencies become omnidirectional. On big stages the low end backwash from the PA system can make all instruments difficult to hear. That causes everyone to start turning up or playing harder. Some of the newer more sophisticated systems use cardioid arrays to address this. I'm constantly bitching at my sound tech to move the subs as far from the stage as possible. I need to hear by bass player. A loud PA makes it very difficult to distinguish the actual pitch of the bass. -
This is the mistress of my downfall. I needed a 5. I got a 5. An Ibanez GSR205 relic-ed by the previous owner more through neglect than intent but not so you'd notice (a screw forced into a bolt insert for the battery cover, some dings and scratches, all pointed out by the seller).

That’s so sad. She had been so unlucky with the flat fire and seemed to be getting back on her feet and now this. 😢
