  2. You want compression that sounds like you want it to sound. You can either disappear down the compression rabbit hole or learn to do it with your fingers. At low volume your slap sounds are less bassy to the ear (Fletcher Munson). The extra HF in the slap is welcomed. Everything is coming out uncompressed. Life is good. The slapped bass overdriving the preamp is your problem? You turn down the input gain and turn up the loud knob. What happens then? Turn down some of the bass EQ!
  3. First run through last night for a side project that supports the Hulla band at their festival every year. It's a subset of the main band and we only play the one gig each year. The rehearsals are usually few and far between as everyone has other things they are doing, but its worked out well in the end each time we've done the gig. Last night was meant to be just a chance to go through some of the songs, see what's working and what isn't, settle in our newest member on sax and set the scene for the rehearsals to come. We warmed up with some songs from last year's set and then, completely unplanned, decided to give 'Baker Street' a go. It was on the 'possibles' list but we were going to leave it for a separate session as none of us have played it before. The sax player was quite nervous about doing it but it's a fun, relaxed atmosphere so we went ahead. And after one dodgy start we played a pretty good version all the way through until we realised we didn't know how to end it. 😀 The drummer has a purpose built soundproofed rehearsal space in his garden as he's quite busy with several big bands and depping work. It's just big enough for 5 people to squeeze in. I used my BAM200 into his 1x15 cab and my Ibanez EHB1000s to save hitting people with my headstock.

  5. I was going through the backing bands on Roots Archives looking at the Roots Radics , check out how many they backed, it’s amazing, also came across this
  6. A bit late to the party reading the comments , but it looks like everything is in order. mine is coming along , but I’ve got a ghost in the drum kit 😳 for some bizzare reason, half way in the intro, a random bar of drums bursts in , there is no midi in the track , and the only way I can do anything with it, is to kill the volume at the place it kicks in . I haven’t the faintest idea where why it is being triggered
  7. Vintage Clothes - Paul McCartney
  8. I've tended to do my home mixing with mainly AKG K240 headphones and Adam A8 monitors. But recently felt the need for some closed back phones to record vox and the like. So I did a bit of research and came up with RØDE NTH-100. I bought some, and now I may have to relegate the AKGs to secondary, and the Adams just for checking a mix. They're awesome - for £109 they do everything a 'phone should, they're nearly as good as AKG K872s at a tenth of the price!
  9. erm - that’s a rabbit hole. some preamps are aimed to sound a bit like a console transformer sound. (Caveman bp1, Jhs colourbox, api tranzformer, Hudson broadcast) others give a valvey colouration to the sound. (Sushibox, Nobel preamp, shiftline and a million more) Then there’s all sorts to give specific preamp crunchy sounds like bass amps. but you’ll need to be more specific about what you’re after. For instance the Hudson broadcast and caveman stuff is both based loosely off studio preamp things - but very very different things!
  10. Yes. Melodyne is very good. I haven’t tried AutoTune yet 🫣 Getting used to it- I had a Harley Benton short scale fretless that sounded wonderful, but seeing as I’m trying to play upright bass as well, the jump in scale lengths was one step too far and the more I played one if them, the more out of tune I seemed to get on the other! Everything seems to fall into place easier for me on the standard scale fretless. That said, playing along to other tracks still show that there’s work to be done! One thing I find helps quite is to ensure that you’re playing your FRETTED bass on top of/just behind the fret - ie. at essentially the correct position for a fretless. Muscle memory becomes much easier then, as you don’t have to change your technique as much when switching basses.
  11. Patches - Clarence Carter
  12. That's really kind. I'm going to look at what I've got first and see how it goes. But much appreciated 👍
  13. I have for now abandonned the idea of adding more switching options to my D-Roc. Instead I tackled the issue that was more pressing to me - I can never remember how I last left the rotary selector switch! So I popped off the metal knobs and replaced them with push-on chicken-head knobs as pictured above. Now I can instantly see (and just as importantly, feel) where the selector is set. Result. *Apologies to Frank Zappa and Ike Willis.

  21. Selling this complete setup for a bargain price. Amp has been gigged maybe three or four times and is in immaculate condition. This amp is capable of so much it's rather overwhelming to try and write it all down, but chances are if you're looking at this you know what it does so I will just link to the Boss website. The footswitch and BT adapter make the whole setup much more versatile, especially for live work, and the gig bag is a perfect fit and finishes off the setup nicely. Only selling as I am no longer using effects and am looking to go back to a simpler setup. I have the original boxes for the amp and the footswitch. Just to be clear, only the GA-FC footswitch at the bottom of the board is included in the sale.
