No sound / fault finding Ashdown perfect 10 combo
Stub Mandrel replied to kingforaday's topic in Repairs and Technical
On the vast majority of solid state amps the headphone disconnects the speaker output and powers the 'phones via a series resistor. This means your fault is probably, as you seem to realise, a break somewhere in the output wiring, not in the electronics. You have a suitable instrument to trace the fault. Put the meter on an a/c range, perhaps 20vac or more. With one probe at a good ground point, carefully probe from the headphone socket to the speaker leads. -

It was supposed to be mounted horizontally under the rear most top rail, which would have been right at the back. Just before he pressed the print button, as a final proof @rwillett asked me to measure the internal dimensions of the flight case and the biggest pedal that was going on the top deck. He then modelled it, and voila the pedal poked up through the flight case lid. By quite a lot, like most of the pedal quite a lot. Cue muffled swearing and a lot of rethinking to come up with what, we think, is a very neat solution.

No sound / fault finding Ashdown perfect 10 combo

Thanks for replying, yeah I’ve tested the speaker both with a multimeter and audio tested it with a different amp. So the speaker is fine, I did try cleaning the speaker out and headphone jack sockets as I figured they were maybe dirty enough to be falsely stopping the signal (as if a jack was plugged in). That made no difference… Perhaps I should have another go! I just expected some kind of result from that and when I didn’t get one, I wasn’t sure where to look next! -
Reporting in between sets: - people have clothing that looks like stolen from tablecloths with round prints (70's party) - quite a lot of noise (hard walls) - too many are sitting in their chairs (too many cars outside) - those having fun are really having fun (Yes, tonight it is ABBA, Chic, Boney M, The Bee Gees, The Trammps...)

My gig was my 3 people band (me-bass;guitar/vocal;drums) at the local studio. It was meant for 5 different bands each playing 20 minutes. Each band had a teacher for a different instrument. Our band drumer is a teacher for drums. The listeners where their students. Everething was ok.

Ah, ok. I see. When I was playing just covers I felt I was taking a ‘slot’ that pros could use. The current band is more originals and it’s great ( and hard!) to get our music out there.

It is bollocks if you're being made to feel that your being paid is unfair on someone else, but that's a different question to the OP's point The vast majority of people we're talking about here are not pros, and those who are - like professionals in every field at present - need to recognise that the economy is changing. Venues that go under now will not start up again, in a year's time they'll be flats or corner shops. A little bit of give and take, in for example the scenario in the first post, far from being an existential threat to the livelihood of musicians, will help protect the future of live music as a whole
