  1. Past hour
  2. Yeah, what I’m aiming for here is a short scale L (or M) 2000, or thereabouts. I like my Fallout but I’m not totally sold on the body shape or bridge position, so think I’ll go for a body more like the L2000, but as I said, contemplating moving the bridge pickup to the neck position….
  3. I’ve not used the DI part and hence not used the built-in cab sim (though I’ve run it into sims on my Shift Line Cab Zone Bass). Remember the BP’s mid control is cut-only. I’m only using mine for lowish-gain sounds and have pretty much just dialled in a sound I like and left it there. Gone for a distinctly old-school, warm and woolly tone but with a bit more breakup. Reminds me of some old souls stuff but also some Beatles bass tones. (I’m solely using it with a passive P with labella flats.) It has a decent amount of bass but not the same as say the SV. The way I’ve got it set, the attack is slightly ramped compared to other preamps, that is, the notes sort of bloom in rather than speaking instantly. (Paired with either of the Origin bass compressors, that changes a bit.)
  4. Thanks @Steve Browning I was looking at one from Sound Store Japan. Free delivery but customs duties to be paid by buyer. I guess that'll be 20% extra which could push the price of the used bass to near enough the same price as a new one from Andertons
  5. I have bought a couple of basses from Ishibashi, and both times it was seamless and straightforward. I think delivery may have been a couple of weeks. I would certainly recommend them. The ones that do make me think are those that say free delivery. VAT and Duty are charged on trhe full cost (including these) so it's clearly some kind of wheeze, but I do wonder how these are dealt with, as it can't be free. Anyway, slight digression.
  6. Whats local to you on Faceache Market? I scored a little Eden 8 for £20ish Might see a Baby Rumble 15...
  7. Thanks. Just to say once again that the slap is not overloading my preamp. Everything is nice and clean until the output stage. But I take the point about my technique, which I'm always trying to improve on. I've been playing for 42 years, but it's still a journey. I guess in that time I should maybe have tried a valve output stage amp, eh?
  8. Is this still available? Is the Achenbach edition just about the custom case, or does it sound different too?
  9. Hi all, I'm looking for a small cheap practice amp to take to my bandmates house, for quiet practice, rather than lugging my 2x12. Maybe something in the 15w range? I used to have a Stagg 20w combo amp back in the day which was rubbish. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm really looking for under £40. Thanks!
  10. I'm seeing lots of basses for sale from Japan on ebay. Has anyone here bought from a Japanese seller? Did it take a long time to arrive? Would you recommend it?
  11. Jay bought a Bartolini Pre from me - absolutely joyful transaction x
  12. Yeah, I have the DCX and briefly had the Black Panel and I don't think they sound the same (although it was >6 months and a different bass between trying them so no sort of direct comparison). Both are good though.
  13. Some people do care about non original solder joints. We don't talk to them but they do exist. Would look miles better with tort IMO.
  14. Well...if anything is going to tempt me into Swindon...
  15. Interesting. I was hoping to get similar tones (with some more mid-options) and a DI in the BP. Obviously the BP has the cab sim too. How would you describe it's sound and why do you love it?
  16. Electro Harmonix B9 Organ Machine ... £100 posted to UK. Very good condition with a couple of very minor scratches and complete with box, instruction sheet, and power supply. There's many demos on Youtube, so here's one ...

  22. It was recommended to me by a guitarist. Once read I’ll add it to the recycling pile here.
  23. Another trick with fretless is to use opened (sorry, but it's a past participle) strings to check your intonation while playing. Use your ears to play, not your eyes and you'll improve very quickly. I really started playing on a fretless bass something like 40 years ago (wow, I'm that old 😳 now) and I now suck on fretted bass as I tend to make it sound like a fretless... 🤦🏻 You can also add a tiny bit of reverb on your tone, it's great with fretless. Welcome to the family!

  25. Today
  26. Good book! I’ve read mine a couple of times. You don’t have to know him or his music to get things from it. In fact, I bought a second copy and gave it to the guitarist I mentioned in my previous post.
  27. That does look a cracker. Having had one of the newer 4003S models, albeit an all maple one, I can attest to sound and playability. The only reason I moved mine on was the the weight, I should’ve bought a walnut one at the time, which are much lighter, but I was lured by the Fireglo. I don’t think that @Pow_22 would be disappointed with a newer one.
