  2. I have an issue with a brand new Sterling Stingray Ray4 and am trying to decide what to do about it. I don't tinker with bass innards myself, but I would like to understand what the problem is. I'm completely new to the world of active basses and trying to figure them out! It always works fine when first plugged in, but then it dies on me after a while. It might be three minutes, or it might be an hour. Some days it seems to behave itself and is fine. The sound usually starts to go a bit crackly and distorted for a minute or two before it conks out, and it doesn't just cut out suddenly, it fades away as if someone was turning the volume down. There's no sound at all once it's gone, but after being left alone for a few hours it magically works again. The battery seemed like the obvious thing to try, but a new one makes no difference. I've also tried different cables. Although it was sold as B-stock it is under warranty, and the retailer has offered to courier it back and fix it for me. But it also crossed my mind that if it's simple to fix I could just save the hassle and take it to a local tech, and get a proper set-up done at the same time. It's such a lovely bass, I definitely want to hang on to it.
  3. I had one of these and they are bonafide great jazz basses. Sounded amazing.. I ordered a brown tort for it.. glwts.
  4. I currently have 9 year old Rotosound flats on my Yamaha BB1025x, which has just been put away in it's case for a bit to be replaced by my Reverend Triad 5, so the flats on the Yamaha are gonna be on there for some time yet I suspect. Mark
  5. Great pics. You guys look great Daryl

  7. Brilliant. I usually just try to blend them in, though I discovered Sea Foam Green wasn't such a good idea. Never forget my husband's double take when he saw that.
  8. I got 18 years from a set of Chromes on my Precision

Bought Some strings from Oli. Excellent comms throughout and well packaged tracked parcel. Would have no hesitation in dealing with Oli in the future. Thanks again Oli, Des
  11. Why, what's wrong with it?

  13. I revisited my perceived issue with the bridge pickup. It could have been the battery in my headphone amp, it could have been my headphones not plugged into the headphone amp properly, or the amp plugged into the bass properly, or my playing position, but after making the changes any volume issue I originally had is gone. In my happiness to have this sorted out, I never checked which was the actual cause, but I guess that doesn't really matter, because it was definitely operator error and not manufacturer error. I have edited the post I made complaint about the pickup. Mark
  14. How did yours sound? The pickup I'm putting in is about 14k so hopefully it will be high enough output.........👍🏻
  15. I don't like the way Beatle Ringo has those Cons laced up. Lol

  17. Hi. Now on offer elsewhere so reduced here to £450 including your choice of D’Addario nickels or Pro Steels and UK mainland delivery. If no strings needed £425. If spare bridge pickup required add £35. Let me know in a PM. Many thanks. Quent
  18. Zoinks! 24” 😮😮😮 That really is SHORT scale! I can see why you’ve had string finding problems!
  19. Congrats on your "new" rig! May it serve you well. A big fan of the old Acoustic gear here. Nothing sounds quite like it. My "gateway drug" was a 220 Head + 2x15" cab somewhere around 1981. I've owned several other ACC setups before moving to TE full-time in the mid-80s. Eventually I'll bow down and buy some type of ACC insanity... Play it in good health and enjoy!
  20. I didn’t quite understand Your message exactly… perhaps because I’m not native englih speaker. Anyway I agree about half-rounds, to my experience, they are absolutely garbage.
  21. I've only recently discovered RHCP's Return of the Dream Canteen, and been trying to learn the opening few bars of slap on Tippa My Tongue. I've seen various videos of people when they get to the notes on the G string either play P P P or P S P. Is there a right way to play these notes? I'm not studied enough on Flea's technique to know how he would approach this. I've watched the one live video I could find but as always the camera folks don't know how to aim at a fretboard for any length of time to satisfy us musos.

  23. Genuinely, I don’t keep basses long enough for me to know the true answer. Generally I use rounds, but the flats I use on basses are usually recycled. if they’re not losing tuning - and they feel right…that’s the aim, surely? Half wounds - I’d say a year, I got really annoyed with the half’s on my ripper and changed them for new. Like a new bass.
