  2. Speaking as a very primitive player, who plays pretty lightly, I found it a little tricky getting it quiet enough to not distort, but loud enough to provide sufficient output for the sound guy. Having the gain low (even with the output turned right up) left the signal a bit quiet for the FOH. But, as soon as I played any harder, it began to clip. I got there in the end, but was a fine balance. BTW, while looking in my manual, I spotted the model number for the bridge pickup: Shadow SH951 - the problem is that it comes with a jack socket rather than a mini jack plug, so you‘d need a male jack to make mini-jack adapter. https://www.thomann.de/de/shadow_sh951_basspickup.htm
  3. Not so good for me - I looked at their map, I am not sure if I am in their range, if I am I am right on the edge!

What are the other string spacing offerings for the fivers?
  5. I can't imagine it would be possible to detect any sound difference by changing a bridge! But now I look at those figures it is tempting, my euro weighs quite a lot
  6. The open mics I go to are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays - not at major music venues either. The Tuesday one does sometimes have bands in, on a Saturday. Are you seeing a lot of Saturday night open mics in Bournemouth?
  7. Sorted. Big fanx to @AndyTravis 😊
  8. The explosion of open mic nights has certainly helped venues to mount cheap entertainment at the expense of bands.
  9. Now that’s a looker!!!
  10. Hi Sean . did you get my Email back ????. I've got the money waiting here Mate. The reason I didn't get back to you was , waiting for Tony Gonzalez USA to get back to Me. Tony said he could build Me a Acoustic Corporation Cab with Horn which was what I wanted. Sean if I have to pay you extra I'm willing to do so Mate. All the best Colin.

  12. I agree 100% It is also high time to show off another beauty, my refinished pre-LX Euro 5 with P5 and J, just like the ones you have now @Sean only that mine are X series. The preamp is a John East deluxe.
  13. Thanks Chester!
  14. I think these are lovely. People rave about that vintage tone from these old Musicmaster basses. Have a guess what's under the pickup cover on most of these. Ta daa!
  15. Just had a very good straightforward transition, my Ditto Looper pedal winging it's way to sunny Kent. Quick comms and payment, deal with confidence folks!
  16. I have PMd him but waiting for a reply…. 😊

  19. Think @Grassie is looking for one like this
  20. There's an interesting article on the subject here. The resonant peak is also linked to the frequency that the 2nd order low pass filter takes effect and cuts treble, so presumably if you wanted to retain treble you wouldn't want to drop the resonant peak too far. It does make me wonder what the difference in effect of cable length would be between an active and a passive bass, as the pickups are isolated from the cable in the active bass but not the passive one. While the capacitance of the cable would be the same, there would be no interplay between that and the pickups on the active bass, but presumably it would directly affect the resonant peak on the passive bass.
  21. You know it. Bwahaha!
  22. Just got a Ditto pedal from Jules, he was quick to reply and very helpful indeed, couldn't be more pleased with the sale.
  23. It's quite a bit different due to the pickups and LHZ obviously. The DCs are atomic but the PJ config that’s in there now is what I wanted, it breathes better and has more articulation rather than what you get from two hot double coils with a old-style dimed TonePump. The balance and feel of the bass has changed with it losing nearly a pound in weight. It’s gone from body-heavy to neutral. It’s dropped from 4.45 to 4.05 kg give or take a few grams. I managed to get the action and intonation 95% there when I roughed it so that was a bonus and I’ve set it up so that it’s very low, quite a bit lower than before. The new bridge is dream to adjust. Would I recommend swapping to a new-style bridge? Only if you’ve got an older Spector that could do with losing a pound. This one didn’t need it doing but it’s a nice mod and I learned a lot. Would I recommend DCs to PJ? It’s very subjective but it is a big difference, it makes it a very different instrument. For a start there’s about half the amount of pickup in there.
