  5. Roger installed a Stars Guitars preamp in Marcus' Fender and when that failed he replaced it with a Bartolini circuit. I'm not sure a Sadowsky circuit was ever used. That's to my knowledge only,I could be wrong.
  6. Remember talking to Steve Hogarth in a recording studio in the mid-90's, and inadvertently saying "I used to like your band, but not listened to them since you joined". Oops. I did go and apologise a bit later. He was quite magnanimous about it thankfully. Never really listened to anything after "Fugazi", it all went quite poppy.
  7. Know anyone with a 3d printer...? If you have a mate with one it should be pretty quick to knock up the required 3d model (.STL) file I'm looking to do that with my Firebird as I need a replacement one. I'll have a look at the usual 3d print places in case there is already a file out there. I'd be more than happy to print one out for you if I can find the file.

  13. Further to my previous posts here, I'm really liking the Herco Vintage 66 'Light' (Gold) picks. Whilst it says 'light', it's actually more medium gauge. I checked it with digital calipers, because as I've mentioned before there's not much info online about the thickness of the various Herco picks, which is a shame. It comes out as .81, which is perfectly in what seems to be my 'goldilocks zone', as the standard Dunlop gauge of .73 always feels a bit too thin, and their .88 a bit too thick. The Herco is not so thick that it feels like hard work, but not thin enough to feel flappy. There's a certain 'authority' of it striking the string, yet with that slight flex which gives a nice compressive effect. I've tried the yellow Dunlop Midi .80, and whilst it's ok, I prefer the sound of the Herco. There's just a bit more character in the tone, the Midi is just a bit more warm sounding. It seems quite rare to find picks that are around .80, and whilst I'm curious as to what else is out there, I'm very pleased with the Herco. I may try Claytons sometime, as they do a .80. Until I change my mind, I've found my new favourite pick.

  15. I'm highly considering the following. Either a Lakland DJ5 Or a G&L L2000/2500. Anyone had or used both? Versatility is absolutely essential to me. I do tend to prefer a more agressive sort of bass tone to be honest with thunderous low end but good top end sizzle. Think Justin Chancellor style tone. I'd also be interested if anyone is selling either. Particularly the G&L's as these are becoming rare as rocking horse doo doo over here as I don't think anyone is selling them for some reason.   16. After a few emails from me to MIG in germany they have just informed me that UK distributor 'Proper Music' have re-started distribution....hopefully your local shop can now order it for you?
  17. If you're still able to use it then I don't think it counts as obsolete. In the video, he gives an example of a Mackie interface that relied on a connection that became defunct, and Mackie stopped providing support for the product, so it became a brick.

  19. Did Marcus play an actual Sadowsky or a Fender modified by Rodger?

For me personally as a five string player,other versions of what Fender invented can offer better B strings,more comfortable fingerboard radii,better colour options,build quality,more frets etc etc. I have nothing against the brand but found that they're not necessarily the "best" at what they started. It hasn't stopped me having one in the stable still however albeit with a Sadowsky onboard preamp modification. To date my favourite take on a jazz bass is an actual Sadowsky.

  23. Has anyone used or had dealings with Gear Up Music? They are based in London's Covent Garden, and seem to offer an easy way of selling instruments.   25. They have a lot going for them in terms of ergonomics: light and very well contoured. Another benefit is the string clamping mechanism, which allows you to use standard length strings and cut off the excess. This gives you much more choice and keeps the price down compared to short/medium scale strings. I had a 4 string EHB that had quite a wide neck but it was shallow and the profile was graduated, if I remember correctly. This meant it was still easy to play. The only problem I had, was often landing two frets out when playing without looking at the neck. I think it was something to do with not having a headstock in my peripheral vision. This might not be as much of an issue with the multi-scale EHB 5. The benefit of buying used is you might get one that has had the pickups upgraded to Nordies, or Aguilar. The original Barts weren’t everybody’s cup of tea. However, if you like traditional, they very much fall in that bracket. I note the new model EHB shorties have Nordies OEM.
