I’ve seen some discussion that Rhythm Stick was originally recorded a semitone lower but the pitch was raised by speeding the tape up. It would be a lot easier if the open E string were available. Not sure whether anyone has asked Norman about it.

Selling this bass as I originally picked it up as a backup to my main touring 4 string, a white MM with all the same mods. They’re both great basses but I don’t have as much need for a direct duplicate as I used to and it’s too good to be sat around not being played. I had it re sprayed with this smokey black burst which maintains the look of the natural grain. It’s picked up some nicks and scuffs which I’ve pictured. I love the way it looks and sad to let it go. The neck has a beautiful flame to it and it and the fretboard are unblemished. Fitted with a John East MM preamp, hipshot drop tuner and schaller style strap locks, otherwise all original and in great condition. Will ship in UK for £30 or meet in London area. That’s because for many of us a band is ultimately a hobby, if it’s a job that’s fine, but that it is a job for some does not mean that the same rules re fees apply across the board. If all the venues go under, where are we gonna play? Musicians need to help venues through what I hope is the tail end of a very bad five years for many of them 👍

Anecdotal but I transitioned between full bass rig to IEM (no backline) via using my chosen preamp pedal (Fishman Platinum Pro) into a QSC 10 mounted on a speaker stand to my side of the stage (obviously PA doing all the heavy lifting). The sounded that I had to work with was far better than I expected and I occasionally default back to this set up when I've doubts about the quality of the engineer/PA to supply a good IEM mix... I've not reverted back to full backline, which surprises me (40+ years of relying on backline, often to carry FOH).

Ballsed up. Bought the wrong one. i need a BT-1 (short Key) happy to do a straight swap even if yours is tatty (it’s for a 50 year old Gibson) this would work for a JMJ or similar. Bought off facebook and delivered today; it’s brand new. £70 plus postage in UK -
Use the correct length strings - especially around small tuner posts. I've had an E string explode and unravel on me before trying to cheap out fitting long scale strings on a short scale. The problem is trying to get the fattest part of the string round the tuner - which is going to happen if you try to use regular/long scale strings. You need them to taper off after the nut - buying the correct length strings will help with this. You can usually find deals on D'addario XL strings of the appropriate scale length - I have some on my 32" scale Squier Jaguar H. EXL170M - can usually be had for around £20-22. If you think that's expensive, then I don't know what to tell you - inflation's a biatch! EXL160M - if you like your strings a bit fatter, seems less people do, so on a quick search found them a mite bit cheaper than the EXL170M

ESP 800 Series JB For sale is my ESP 800 series Jazz Bass from 1991. These are quite rare. The bass has a beautiful transparent purple finish with matching headstock, a dot&bound neck, good quality gold plated hardware and reverse tuners. The body wood looks to be sen ash to me. The body and neck have pencil markings "messe ’91", which might mean that this was an exhibition model. The bass is in good condition. It has some playwear and small damages, but nothing serious imo. All hardware and electronics work like they should. The neck is straight and well adjustable. Playability is great with a low action. It’s a very good sounding instrument. I’d say it has a bit more clarity to the tone when compared to a regular specd alder body Fender. I actually A-B’d this one with a very good CS Fender I had, and they were equally nice. I preferred the slightly more musical clear highs of the ESP, so the CS went. Weight is not bad at 3,95kg on my kitchen scales. €1.350 I am located in the Netherlands, but happy to ship at buyers risk and expense.-

This is as hard-hitting as Lucinda’s songs, and to be frank it’s a wee bit too honest. But that makes it compelling reading, so if you like her music it’s a solid investment. If you don’t know who she is, consult YouTube immediately… Hardback, very good condition. RRP £20, yours for £13 posted. -

Literally just after typing that last post and thinking about why I couldn't get anything from it and how I compose. It came to me! So there are some blue and green bits, then a big splooge of yellow, then blue- green. So the form will be 2 sections or types of sections. Then a big completely different bit. Then back to the 2 types of sections. The time changing up the side of the graph means I'll change some things as it goes along within the sections. Don't know what. Harmony, chords not sure. I'll try and have a go. -

Hi all, Every time I restring my 32" scale Mezzo I seem to snap the end of the string off on the E. they are quite narrow posts so any ideas how to avoid snapping please? No idea what I'm doing wrong here. It usually ends up just too short to use. I did use long scale strings trimmed down to fit, plenty of room to do it properly. Any ideas guys? Any recommendations for 32 scale strings that I don't need a mortgage for? Thanks, Tom.

This is the problem. Too many people see bands as a hobby. If a venue can't keep it's doors open then it's not for the musicians to play for free. That has no long term future and is a devaluation of the musicians trade.

I know the venue. I've been some great gigs there, one of them possibly the best I've been to. Played their a couple of times. It's been going for longer than I care to remember. The owners, both current and previous have done a lot to support music. I'd give up time to play at this one. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to because I'm away that weekend. But it's a great venue run by genuine people.

You've got a double whammy. The EBS cab is physically too small to have high sensitivity in the lows, the Elf isn't powerful enough to overcome that. The Streamliner can. I'd have no problem driving my 112 with the Elf, but my cab is nearly twice the size of yours.

Yes, it is. The DR Neon white strings didn't stay long on the bass....as much as they look great on stage especially with UV lighting, boy do they sound dull and lifeless.
