  1. Past hour
  2. Easter treat from Thomann. NS Dimension 4 for £1,222 (incl. VAT, free shipping). I am not into multiscales, but someone here may is: https://www.thomann.co.uk/spector_ns_dimension_ms_4_walnut.htm
  3. I remember being in one of the bigger guitar shops in New York and the new Gibson Thunderbird had come out (this was the one below with the different pickups and the switches). I was using a variety of other 'birds at the time (see elsewhere). Plugging in, you couldn't really hear anything different going on. I mean, if anything was actually happening tonally, it was on such an infinitesimally small tonal swing that you couldn't really identify any difference.
  4. It seems the only announcement on this has been the website page. Nothing on their social media apart from all posts being removed from Instagram. I'm still 50/50 on scam vs disfunctional shambles...
  5. Last night, did some bass backing for a couple of people - the most notable being backing 12 year old Amelie (vocals) and 14 year old Phoebe (guitar) doing Sweet Child O' Mine. I think Phoebe's guitar playing was better than our guitarist (but don't tell him I said that). It's good to see that there are youngsters coming on as well as the old brigade.
  6. I wouldn't worry as long as it has a volume control. It will be obvious if you are over-driving the cab. It will make horrible noises before it expires.
  7. £700 for quick sale 🤞🏻
  8. The entitlement of some people is quite staggering, isn't it?
  9. One of those drunk idiots once said to me, after chipping a headstock against a wall, "what are you looking at me like that for? These are supposed to be bashed around a bit!"
  10. My hair (or lack thereof) is as depressing as a Leonard Cohen song . TBF, I quite like Laughing Len, the original version of Hallelujah, being the best, by quite some measure, IMO.
  11. I think it's next to impossible to achieve under 8.5 lbs with the wood combination, which is similar to a Ken Smith. The average Black Tiger 5 string weighs well over 9 lbs I believe. Hope you find a solution on the weight Jeff as Mark is a really nice person, hard to find these days! 😬
  12. The actual scratchplate is pretty horribly cut. Shame, as otherwise, as a travel bass, it has potential, such an easy fix too.
  13. Why do you want to change? You don't like the sound, or just want a different sound? The main issue with replacement pickups is finding the right dimensions. Try an outboard preamp. That will alter/improve your sound without the need to mod your bass.
  14. Exactly. Even if your bass isn't expensive, it's yours and you have the right to decide who, if anyone, plays it. I used to take a cheap eBay special to jams as a loan instrument. Several people turned up their noses at it and demanded to play my vintage Jazz or my Spector. Sorry, sunshine. Not happening.
  15. The latest update in the local newspaper says people were spotted inside packing stock into boxes. I guess they didn't find a buyer then. https://www.theargus.co.uk/news/25065145.everything-know-far-closure-gak-brighton/
  16. The replacement value of my bass is £5400. No one is borrowing, playing or touching it, at our jam or at any other time, under any circumstances. The rule for our jam is you bring your own instruments, drumsticks etc and during the height of Covid singers brought their own mics, if they had them. Any idiot, drunk or not, can get up and damage your gear, so they are required to bring their own. It also ensures a better class of jammer turns up.
  17. Today
  18. Why? What next? Should you lend a guy your car to get home after the jam because he hasn't brought the bus fare? When I've been the bassist at jam sessions, I've been quite happy for people to play through my rig (obviously), but they don't play my bass. Seems reasonable.
  19. I use a PB-2 Pedal riser and tall dual lock which gives a nice allowance for routing cables underneath.
  20. Exceptional playing on the video, that’s some piece to learn and commit to memory. A very interesting right hand technique as well with some similarities to Gary Willis's. 👏. Under 2k is a bit of a steal for such a great sounding P bass as well. GLWTS.
  21. I can’t say I’m surprised, sadly. The BC collective’s initial gut reaction to this event does seem to have been spot on. I sincerely hope that any monies paid to the organisers is refunded in full and swiftly. 🤞
  22. In answer to the questions: 1 Kind of. I think the pickups are now wired in parallel but were originally series, so this gives a slightly different flavour. Also both pickups are slightly further back than a regular jazz spacing (perhaps the rear is closer to 70s) so not quite the jazz sound but close overall. 2 I don't know, but I think it might be New Jazz Hybrid. I've got a feeling I tried a white one of these in the gallery and Martin may have mentioned it then.... Or I could just be imagining that.... It would make sense as most of the bass is a kind of evolution of a regular jazz Hope that's helpful
  23. Mmmm.....maybe theres a connection here 🤣 I've mentioned in previous posts / threads about this type of event and the way they drip feed the customer base with info about the event. We are a very niche hobby group spread out in all corners of the UK. Not everyone lives in London / Birmingham / Liverpool etc. and even if you do you still have to plan ahead and budget for albeit lower travelling / food / beer costs. Anywhere outside of these areas can be a significant outlay and all based on a notion that "something might happen". I'm glad I didn't commit to going as I would now be £500 out of pocket for transport & hotel, not a happy bunny and very unlikely I would consider going to another one if its run the same way. 😢
  24. When I first saw it I said to myself "yea, I'm not watching a 4hr YT video" and I usually watch everything hbomberguy does. I've seen it twice now, albeit on in the background while I'm sat at my computer at work.
