  2. You may be surprised how much easier it is to play a bass with a flat board. Leo only put a radius on his creations to mimic classical instruments that were played with bows. Electric stringed instruments are not so the concept is actually redundant even though we've become accustomed to them. Leo as you may know wasn't actually a player.Flat boards are part of the reason I favour Warwicks. Never owned an ACG as of yet but tried a few used examples in Bass Direct. They are something else ☺️
  3. Essex's own Martin Newell in Shepherds Bush Hall last night, Two sets, one solo and then another with backing band The Cleaners from Venus for the first time in over 30 years for this two night run at Bush Hall; though it was support act The Gardeners stepping into that role (my friend Tiv played guitar alongside Captain Sensible and Dave Gregory for what had previously been the Cleaners' final excursion in Japan in 1994) Quite a few famous faces were in the crowd... Thoroughly entertaining, when he goofed up a riff on the piano, he remarked "At least you know now it's not AI" πŸ˜†
  4. We've been preparing for a jazz gig in the centre of Oxford at the beginning of June. The set is pretty much sorted out now, and other than a few wrong notes (this is jazz, though) and a flying drumstick everything was sounding good. Some effort has been spent trying to find varied arrangements, with different structure and number/order of solos, which is something we usually do for gigs - see https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/324449-jam-nights-cliquey/page/8/#comment-5458986 for why I mention that...
  5. I used to have one these . Great cabs really liked the sound and surprisingly easy to handle for a 4x10 especially with castors.
  6. For sale, I have 6 Celestion BN-200 neo drivers available in very good used condition from a recently dismantled 6x10 which became too much to haul. Currently retailing at Β£115 just about everywhere I think it's a fair saving. Super lightweight compared to ceramic, 200 watt and 8 ohms. Buy singles or in pairs, quads, it's up to you and your project/upgrade. Postage negotiable dependent on numbers purchased. Cheers.

  7. I've had these a while, using them in various amps with valve preamp stages, but my move away from such amps means they are now surplus: Mullard ECC83 - code B6B3 means made in Blackburn, third week of February in either 1956, 1966 or 1976 = Β£50 Mullard ECC83 - (code backward3)91 means made in Chelmsford for Mullard by Marconi, but not sure how to date the rest = Β£50 Mullard ECC81 - no code that I can see = Β£25 Caveat Emptor: I have tested them in my Demeter amp and they are all working fine at time of writing, but as always with old valves be aware they can fail at any time. Please do bear that in mind before you buy.

  8. After much experimentation over the last few months, I have now settled on my preferred strings for each of my basses, so these unused sets are all up for sale. All prices are posted per set, but happy to combine and discount for multiple purchases. GHS Pressurewound (39.25" winding and custom made to fit Dingwall basses and imported from the US) - Β£40 3 x Newtone Platinum nickel roundwounds on round cores - (2 x 37" and 1 x 38" ball end to taper) - Β£35 2 x GHS Brite Flat groundwounds (38" ball end to taper) - Β£38 1 x Elites Groundwounds (38" apart from the B, which is 37.25" I think) - Β£30 Thanks for looking.
  9. I’m sorry to everyone in the queue the first customer has now paid. Thank you everyone for your interest.
  10. I am in no rush for another multi effects unit, but this looks good. Once they begin to appear second hand and after the RRP has dropped, I'll be interested
  11. I'm going to guess that with a female vocalist you won't be going for silly volumes or an over heavy bass sound. The DXR's are good speakers that will go really loud and are also well protected against abuse so you are unlikely to damage them in normal use. Honestly I don't think you will have a problem though that depends upon how big a venue you will normally be playing. Certinly until you are established I'd be prepared to go out with just the Yamahas and save your money until you are absolutely sure there is something lacking. If you do find you are lacking at a larger venue then applying HPF to the mix will allow you a little extra headroom and probably a cleaner sound but in all probability Yamaha wil have some sort of dynamic speaker management in place already which will get the best out of the speakers and be almost unnoticed by you and the audience. Subs are a nice addition but not an absolute necessity in most UK pubs and clubs.
  12. I saw a video on YT at the time I was looking, that somehow demonstrated that 1 driver can be better in certain situations. It wasn't scientific, but IIR his singer was slightly more in tune when using single driver Sen than with multi driver. Possibly something to do with brand and poor phase cancelation putting him off somehow. Im not backing this up, just going by what a random You Tuber posted, but I have seen mention of it on other sites over time, but more a throw away thing than any testing. I must admit at the start 'more was better' in my eyes (ears), but after trying the MEE pro range, that went from 1 to 4 drivers, I found 3 to be optimal for my use. I could certainly hear a difference between all of them, but it was more like different Eq than anything else. I certainly didnt like the KZ tone signature, and those quite a few I believe.
  13. I have always found it much easier to play on a flatter fingerboard. In regards to the filter pre it was something that took me a short while to grasp but now I really prefer the filter preamp πŸ‘πŸ»
  14. Leave the first one out? A popular trick.
  15. Luxury, I couldn’t make it past the first bar.
  16. I was thinking about getting a second set, but I guess that would be too much money. A friend of mine has used the IE400 for years and never had an issue, so I hope they last. I don't know if this is the reason why they disscontinued them, but they only have one driver. The friend I mentioned before had a podcast and he talked to Sennheiser and they explained why they use only one driver. But people really look at how many drivers IE have so, maybe they were not selling that much.
  17. To be fair though, those 40w rumble amps are a bit miraculous. Not very nice sounding but they do get the notes audible which is incredible for what they are. That was at an open mic setup though and from that point onwards I made a point of bringing my own rig to those sessions, even though I carted it on the underground! This is why portability is really very important for me.

  19. Interesting point of issue. Erik Arko's video mentioned right at the end: "It will get Bluetooth eventually - they're stuff implementing stuff..." Does this mean the hardware is Bluetooth ready - the specs on the Darklass produce page don't mention Bluetooth at all.
  20. Thanks Nik ... but I am willing to entertain a very close offer. PS, I also swapped the strings to a nearly new set of DR Hi Beams which suit the bass really well (get your clank on) and allow for lovely, low action.
  21. I don't think that's come out too bad for a first attempt Now time to start making the neck........πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ€ŸπŸ»

  23. Yep! Crazy lightweight for an Ash bodied Jazz.
  24. While I agree with the oasis comments, I also have the same issues getting upbeat songs in, or at the moment, any songs! It seems to take forever, I am not sure why most songs cant be done in a week, or maybe two if it is a really tricky one.
  25. No, sorry. Still just looking to cash it in.
