Will Basschat survive the Online Safety Act?
fretmeister replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
Update: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yljn2vkn1o Looks like age checks are going to be unavoidable. Presumably that means quite a bit of additional GDPR compliance and record keeping by forums. -
Good deal - you've now got more money to buy some Crisps!! Hahaha I paid for the Janek / Ian ticket via PayPal as I didn't want to use my usual bank card. Looks like PP do pretty awful conversion rates (as you mentioned above).

From what I understand the Thumb was originally known as the JD bass after an American bass player based in Germany called John Davis. He seemingly had a hand in the design and development. Not only was he one of the actual singers of the lip syncing Milli Vanilli he was a slap and pop player hence the "Thumb". I believe the intention was to wear it high and play...with the thumb! This story won't make playing one any more comfy for those who find them challenging but it might explain the design to a degree. Definitely quite niche.Mine isn't going anywhere.

Thanks for all the replies guys, there's more to consider than I'd thought! 🤣 I'm not worried about warranty really, and I think I'd argue the toss with them anyway, as any warranty issue would be to do with electronic components, not the structure of the cabinet. Those cabs must be 20-22mm thick at a guess, so no worries about screwing into them. I got to thinking about it because one of the cabs is used, and the carpet on the bottom (destined for a trim with the hair clippers!) is a bit fluffed up and had all sorts of detritus stuck in it before I cleaned it. I like that the corners stack, but at some points I'm going to want to use them side by side, so both would be feet or no feet.... @DGBass I like the idea of the matting, would you be able to show what you mean? @Pow_22 I've had similar issues in the past just using the corners, uneven floors and some weird vibration depending on the floor surface. The corners are hard plastic whereas the feet are rubber, so you avoid any such nonsense. Leaning towards feet at the moment I think... @Ed_S did you base your positioning of the feet on anything, or was it just a tongue-out and squint approximation? 😅

Xotic XJ-1T 5 Sonic Blue - (PRICE DROP) £1800

That's a great price for a super-jazz of this quality! And having had an Xotic 5 previously (though not this exact model), I can totally agree with your comments @Stephen Houghton about how good these basses really are... What's more, I've had the pleasure of playing this one and it's a real beauty! Sounds brilliant and is effortless to play. GLWTS 👍😊 -
IIRC, Line 6 said they planned for the Helix platform to last around 10 years before being succeeded by the next generation. Since then, they have been great with firmware updates and have added some fantastic features and models. I'm quite grateful for that sort of roadmap, as I don't want to have to replace my hardware every other year to get new features. Quite a brave move for a hardware company. And let's not forget, the prices of new units are the same as they were 10 years ago. That 10-year estimate expires this year, so I expect to see something new from them soon. I suspect they have not been sitting on their laurels and will have a few exciting things for Helix 2.0.

I have been testing different IEMs these last gigs and I think I can comment some thoughts about them: Sennheiser IE100 pro. The most comfortable headphones I ever had. Flat response. Everything is there, but not in a spacial way. Nice bass, mids and highs. I can hear my whole band and myself without any problem. Isolation is nice. KZ ZS10 pro X. They sound terrific. Everything is there, good bass and nice mids. I can hear everything very clearly. My only issue with them is that I am not that comfortable with them. I tried several buds and I cannot feel really comfortable with them. Isolation is nice. All my bandmates use them. KZ Castor (bass enhanced). This set is what KZ recommends for bass players. They include switches to change the eq. They sound good. However, if you have some bass boost, the bass sounds really artificial. There is sub bass, but it is not very defined. I think they are a little bit more comfortable than the ZS10. Isolation is the same than the ZS10. I prefer the ZS10 overall, but they are really nice headphones. KZ ZST. Really good headphones. All the frequencies are heard and you can hear all your bandmates. They sound similar to the ZS10, but the ZS10 sound more spacial IMO. Bass is good and defined. Isolation is the same as the other KZ models. MEE6 pro. Nice and very comfortable. Soundwise are a little bit worse than the Sennheiser or the KZ. I have ordered the Seinnheiser IE400 pro to see if there is much of a difference.

New update to the nano cortex - 2.0 software which might draw some more bassists who just need a few essentials in a gig bag friendly package with iPad interface. Looks good.

Where carpeted cabs only have stacking corners, I'd always fit rubber feet to avoid them soaking up the usual cocktail of beer, fruit juice and other less wholesome substances that ends up all over most venue floors and car parks by the end of a night. I totally get the warranty concerns about driving screws into the bottom of a new cab, but I consider the alternative a much worse situation so I've attached rubber feet to all my Markbass cabs and combos before taking them out. Never had any problems with either the feet or the carpet covering, so my vote is definitely to feet. My CMD 121p for example - still nice and clean:

PRICE DROP Overwater Progress Series IV 4 String - now £2250
petergales replied to petergales's topic in Basses For Sale
Sorry to hear about your shoulder problems. It just seems that once they are damaged they never get back to how they were. I bought the bass new in 2018 and had the body chambered to help with the weight due to my back problems but since then I ruptured my shoulder in a fall and had to have a reverse shoulder replacement. It makes playing 34" scale basses very difficult and painful. However this bass is a beautiful instrument and deserves to be played. Succumb to temptation! -

I've only ever bought a bass off a Reverb seller once, and it was a complete success. Ergo, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Reverb, you're all crazy, what the hell are you all talking about?

Isn’t that the HX One? For me where Line 6 went wrong with that is not making it like the Zoom MS series, where you can have a few fx in a chain and simple turn the chain on and off. I understand why they didn’t, it would make the HX one too much of a value proposition to the Stomp. After that, as most of the market is guitar focused, they just don’t seem to care about XLR outs.
