  1. Past hour
  2. I’m waiting for pics on that knackered black one 2nd from the back 😬 I just know what’s gonna happen
  3. No. Never. In the days when I couldn't afford much I bought a Burns Sonic Bass because I thought it looked way more interesting than the P and J copies.
  4. After watching this thread, umming and ahhing and convincing myself I don’t need another bass (I really really don’t), I thought I was out of the woods when they sold out on andertons. but I thought I’d check eBay anyway. £149 and change later, an ‘out of box but unused’ black soloking will hopefully be on its way to me soon! I really need to stop reading these threads!
  5. Just breathed a massive sigh of relief that there's no 5ers here.

  7. A singer with an exceptional voice and range who knows how to connect with the audience. No guitarist. Catchy songs and the ability to put on a great performance when we play live:
  8. Earth, Wind & Hydroelectric
  9. Fleetwood Bigmac
  10. DAB Radiohead
  11. What separates your band from the other bands in the areas you work in? Not a lot. We're pretty decent, but not exceptional. What do you have that others don't? See above. If you were pitching your band to a prospect, what would be your bast selling point. We won't pinch anything, get drunk or start fights.
  12. I really like DiMarzio Area J pickups.
  13. Think this looks fab, unfortunately out of my range right now so have a bump on me
  14. electricmotorhead
  15. Late to report but I've been in Whitby for the April Goth Weekend. We played the Shadow Factory event at The Craft Cove on Friday night with bright new things Social Youth Cult and local stars Westenra. Sold out gig which wasn't that surprising given the line-up. The Crafty Cove is an interesting venue, being a shop during the day and a night club in the evening. When we arrived to load in they were still putting all the clothing racks away. Sound checks nearly over-ran mostly because Social Youth Cult had been told that backline would be provided and then discovered that what was in the venue wasn't very suitable and neither us or Westenra use any that they could have borrowed. Finally got everything sorted minutes before the doors opened. Despite the sound check hiccups Social Youth Cult were even better than when I saw them in October and their sound is veering towards Bauhaus rather than their previous Joy Division heavy influences. It could have been a hard act to follow but I think we managed it. There were some interesting glitches: I managed to hit my bass so hard during the breakdown in "Adore Me" that the wireless transmitter dropped out of the jack socket. Luckily I spotted it before someone trod on it and was able to plug it back in only missing the first bar of the next verse. Our singer forget all the lyrics to the first verse of "Tilting" and the foot switch for the backing was doing some weird things that required manual intervention at the computer. Despite all of that we went down really well and sold an unfeasible amount of T-shirts and CDs including loads of copies of our brand new single "Robert Smith's Eyes". Obligatory photos: Next gig is Carpe Noctum on 10th May at The Lending Room in Leeds supporting Faces Of Sarah.
  16. Sincerely hope none of the members crying IP Theft have ever bought a cheap bass copy before
  17. Discovered his channel recently, and Now I'm reeling from the revelation that "...and out come the wolves" wasn't a P bass - it was a Fender Longhorn Jazz 😮
  18. Boyz 2 non-binary adults.
  19. Going off on a slight tangent, have you tried adjusting the stock pickup closer to the strings? There's a sweet spot for Jazz pickups, usually about 3-4mm from the bottom of the string to the pole pieces on the bridge pickup, and around 5-6mm on the neck pickup. That can make a huge amount of difference to your sound before you start any modifications.
  20. Oh how I wish I could contribute to this thread! It would be cool if people linked to videos or websites of their bands. It’d be great to see you all in action (without me having to leave the house…).
  21. I rounded up the parts I already have, and placed an order for the rest with Modulus Amplification.
  22. What separates your band from the other bands in the areas you work in ? - we play renaissance folk rock What do you have that others don't ? - there aren't really any others nearby. If you were pitching your band to a prospect, what would be your bast selling point. - the authenticity of our music - tunes that were played and danced to 500 years ago You can also add in areas where you think your band struggles - it's very hard to get the right sort of gig. We've done pub gigs but the songs that went down best were folk-rock covers of modern pop/rock tunes. We've played churches but some of the bawdy original lyrics don't suit. We're not period-accurate enough for re-enactment events like Worcester. We've played folk clubs, but the room is generally full of people who are also chasing gigs. We're currently trying to get onto a pirate/shanty weekend as that maybe fits us best.
  23. Second..... nitro finished swamp ash Jazz body with FL Precision neck (brand unknown, was sold to me as Allparts many moons ago, then went to another BCer - @oldslapper IIRC - before finding its way back to me, a not uncommon take), PUPs are SD SJB1s, again I've kept them together because they work together, but happy to split: Bass £450, loaded body £325, neck £175
  24. My Ding-A-Ling - Chuck Berry
  25. The middle wenge neck on the p-bass and the right one on the jazz bass are both from the same seller on Ebay. Definitely heavier than maple. I'd recommend lightweight tuners unless your bass body was a heavy wood. And I always put on heavier bridges. The only finishing I added to both was apply lemon oil on the back of the neck, fretboard & headstock.
