    In Memoriam

That is so sad, like so many I was chatting via pm with Sam. She was going to build one of the first of the new BassChat 8" cabs. I have a kit of parts here packed and ready to go and was increasingly concerned when she suddenly stopped communicating. Now we know why. I'd like to think whatever happened was sudden and quick while she was still planning for the future with new builds and new adventures. She will be missed and she touched a lot of us it seems.
  4. Whenever I see my favorite singers or bands performing in livehouses, I become more interested in learning an instrument. It's really cool!!! If it's bass, will I improve quickly if I watch more videos and practice?
  5. Hunan Are You? - The Who
  6. ..or destroy it!
  7. I wonder which one of us turned up on Friday to see Hawkwind at Bournemouth Pavilion a full 24 hours before they were due to actually play there?
  8. Interesting. You can only sell so many new guitars, so makes sense to get piece of the used market.
  9. Avantasia at the Roundhouse. Not the most inspiring from a bass playing perspective, but that's not the point of seeing Avantasia. They played for nearly 3 hours with a vocal lineup that included Tobias Sammet (obviously), Eric Martin (Mr Big), Ronnie Atkins (Pretty Maids), Bob Catley (Magnum), Tommy Karevik (Kamelot) and the incredible Kenny Leckremo from H.E.A.T. Even the three backing singers were incredible, especially Adrienne Cowan. VID-20250325-WA0000.mp4 VID-20250325-WA0012.mp4

  11. I bough my main bass on a holiday to the USA/Canada in 2003. Fender US Deluxe jazz 5 for £650. Them were the days. My advice would be to spend your holiday money on a trip to Japan. Exchange rate is very favourable for visiting westerners and you can pick up a good deal on a flight. Tax free shopping is a breeze - your tourist visa includes a QR code that you use at point of purchase to exclude 10% sales tax. Tokyo is full of great guitar shops- Ishibashi in Shibuya and Shinjuku for example. The best deals are on Japanese instruments. I picked up a near mint non export Aerodyne Jazz for £450. The shop staff are incredibly helpful and will even dissemble a bolt on instrument, slacken truss rod and bubble wrap body and neck to keep it safe. I brought mine back in a carrier bag and stashed in the overhead compartment . Clothes shopping dirt cheap too. Granted, I was there for work, but a friend went on a leisure trip and claimed his shopping savings covered cost of his flight.
  12. It's a "couldn't make this up" moment. 9 Polynesian countries have higher rates than the USA. Of those 9, American Samoa holds first place with 70.29% of folks classed as obese 😲
  13. I recently discovered Drumble on YouTube. It's in a similar vein to Drumeo, but the majority of drummers are gospel musicians (i.e. ridiculously good) However, they've recently introduced rhythm section playthroughs and a couple of the musicians are an absolute joy to watch https://youtu.be/bEk8QItRJeo?si=pioJaPdQBL1uvOb8
  14. Working For The Yangtze Dollar - The Skids
  15. Today
  16. Yellow River - Christie
  17. If you're a fan of Pete Trewevas, then check out the last Transatlantic album. It has a great line-up - Mike Portnoy, Neal Morse and Pete on bass. Some lovely melodic playing.
  18. Jimmy Jimmy - The Undertones
  19. The Riddle - Nik Kershaw
  20. These are great, they're incredibly well made and versatile!
  21. You might get a bit more interest in your new low price if you were to include it in your title, e.g. PRICE DROP £1000. Just click on the the three dots to the right of the original post and you should see "Edit". Then you'll be able to edit the title box. GLWTS - I agree this is a ridiculously low price for such a quality bass.
  22. Question - The Moody Blues
  23. Well, the email advising me that the refund for the ticket cost (£47) was on its way to me, was received on Friday 18th April 24. It's now Wednesday 23rd April and the refund status is still showing as "Pending". Not impressed.
  24. Hello, do you still have it and would you ship it to the US? Thanks
  25. That's more down to the sensitivity of the human ear to different frequencies. A guitar is playing in the range of frequencies that the human ear is most sensitive to, and the bass in the range that it's least sensitive to. Edit: I'm catching up at the moment, I see this has been addressed.
  26. Not at all - I'm very happy to carry on with long stories with various plot twists about old basses. There's enough trash talking in the real world and I come here for a bit of a break.
