  2. Specifically the ball end of the strings, they look like they've just been pinned into the body. How is this done? Is it a peg like on classical guitars? Is it a screw? I saw the image in a random post on my Fb timeline, I searched for a more accessible version but couldn't locate it so screenshot the one on Fb. Mark

  4. Me! Me! Me! Me! Mark <-- Me! 😂
  5. Excellent I've been surprised by what trios can do. I saw a trio cover " Eleanor " by The Turtles with all the harmonies. Daryl
  6. Billy Humble Bragg The Educationally Challenged Minds The Psychedelic Faux Furs
  7. Definitely one of the better finishes for the SB-2s...pearl pickguard puts it over the top. I'm betting GHS black tapewounds would look great with that maple fretboard.

  9. Hi, I think I get what you're trying to achieve with the wiring system you describe and I'm not sure it would quite work like you want....but nearly 🤣 For me the key to this is thinking about how the signal passes through the system. From your description above the switch has 3 states - series / single / parallel: Single - the full signal runs through only Coil B direct to the Master vol control. Parallel - Coil B - as above, the full signal runs direct to the Master vol control. Coil A - the signal runs through the secondary volume pot which attentuates the signal before going to the Master vol. In theory this should allow you to blend A and B coils together in varying amounts. Series - the signal runs through Coil B and then through Coil A and into the secondary volume pot which would obviously affect the total output from both coils. This would just be acting like the signal going direct to the Master vol pot. I've done a few series / single / parallel set-ups in the past using either a 6 pin DPDT for each humbucker or one 9 pin DPDT to control both pickups at the same time. What I've noticed it that main change in sound is when you go to Series (fatter & louder). Going from single to parallel is a bit more subtle and I'm not sure how useful a volume pot giving incrementaly small changes to an already minimal change 🤷‍♂️ If you're doing a lot of recording where you can make the best of theses subtleties then it's probably worth trying. On the other hand if your gigging, then once the drummer has counted 4, you're lucky to hear the bass never mind any nuances! 🤣🤣 If you do go ahead let us know the results as it would be interesting to hear what the results are both from a useability and audio files. 👍
  10. We don't play Oasis We don't play Dakota We don't play Sex on Fire We don't play Mr Brightside I think that sets us apart 😂 What we do play is 60s and 70s stuff that you will have likely heard of but that other bands don't do. Rock, prog and pop. We like doing stuff that is technically challenging and stuff that you wouldn't think a trio could do. That, and the guitar/vocalist has a great line in banter and amuses & entertains the audience. It's a lovely combination and I feel so lucky to be a part of it. I've been in bands with him for 40 years now
  11. With a different pickguard shape the Bronco could have been a Musicmaster
  12. I think the main distinction between us and other local bands is the gregarious personality of our band leader and her husband. They're both really good at working a crowd. Daryl
  13. Handbox R400 & Handbox 1x12 Cab Bought these a couple of years back from Sims Guitars, it was their Handbox demo rig. The amp has been recently serviced and there are a couple of small nicks in the cab tolex from gigging. Handbox Cab is a 1 x 12" Ferrite (Eminence Speaker) 250W/80hm Selling as we're moving house and down-sizing so I'm selling off my gig rig as moving means leaving my band too 😥 I want to sell this as a rig and not split them. Possible courier delivery or happy to do a meet up
  14. Quite a casualty rate... "This isn't rock and roll, this is genocide!"
  15. I love a bit of Beck. Such a variety of styles and moods. My favourite album (this week) is The Information - some great grooves. I had the start of Minus as my ring tone for a while
  16. Spent a loooong evening with two mates. Was expecting to try out my baselines to a few of their songs but ended up laying down four tracks in garageband. Then I recorded bass, rhythm and lead for one of my own songs while lyrics were written for it! A drummer is lined up too!
  17. I should mention that for a while I have had an issue with my playing my LT5 recently. Both standing up at gigs and sitting down practicing. It was like I was constantly fighting against the bass and could not get comfortable with it... honestly it was exhausting. I think this was probably due to my body and generally being exhausted from being a dad to a toddler and a bass player that has spent twenty plus years in vans and tour busses (it seems since I turned 40 it's all been catching up with me physically) Anyway... I switched the strap around from a Mono padded one with dunlop straplocks to a wide leather Levy one with just rubber strap stoppers. Couldn't believe the difference, don't know if itsbetter weight distribution or if the strap not being on straplocks has slightly shifted they way the bass hands on my body. Played a wedding gig on Saturday. Felt absolutely fine all gig. Only downside was I picked up a bloody virus at it!
  18. Back in the 80s I would view the big powerful Trace Elliot heads as the true Rolls Royce of bass amps. I view this as the modern day equivalent.
  19. At the very budget end of things my Stagg EUB has a headphone socket. It is very much a stick bass, but does have brackets that loosely approximate the shape of a DB. I love playing it when we do "acoustic" gigs. https://www.normans.co.uk/products/stagg-edb-3-4-bk-3-4-size-electric-double-bass-in-black?variant=40045424378056&srsltid=AfmBOopvovqKKRWHQtIFtmL9xwJj7Ez_ho5SirrqDcLe511xkGl6H5nN_rA
  20. Yeah I know that issue of the string being too close to the pickup. It's not that unfortunately but westside distribution are being very accommodating and swapping the sets for me, so all on course to be sorted.
  21. Our drummer went to that gig, his mate was playing in Folk'd About. He was also checking out the venue as we're playing there this Friday. That is a very cool pose, I have hat envy too!
  22. I'm not sure about where Hartke is stocked but they are distributed by Hal Leonard here and it seems they have their own online store which I think might be called musicroom, could be wrong or it could maybe have been part of Samson Tech. I am a Hartke artist and I think my rig came from somewhere within the UK, when I needed a replacement amp they shipped it to me within 24 hours (turned out it was just the valve going)! Great amps and cabs. Really reliable (even with the dodgy tube it still sounded fine). The clarity is incredible, great for live gigs and I never feel the need to engage the tweeter to get the definition.
  23. Well our current album is The Seven Legged Groove Machine because at the time we were a 4-piece and the singer had recently had a motorcycle accident resulting in the lower half of his right leg being amputated. We’re now a 5-piece so the latest guy in worries about both legs. But in the areas we work in, well for some reason we’re on the psychobilly scene even though we’re more of a garage punk band, so our USP (and is on our merch) is The Spacewasters, Not Psychobilly Enough.
  24. Excellent Rat based distortion with a 2 band eq, one of my favourites.
  25. This is very true, but you need a starting point. I get instrumental and vocal sounds in the ball park individually and then make final adjustments with the whole band playing.
  26. Long and Winding Road - The Beatles
  27. "Delighted", that's where I like to be. I'm jealous of the pic, very cool. Daryl
