Question. How are people measuring whether an amp is coloured or not? Are you using your ears and comparing against a DI signal, or are you looking at response plots?

Me too, I think we should have both got a hall pass. If you do fail, but your purchase isn’t described as nice, you should get a pardon, Trump-style 👍

Eq'ing a vocal on digital mixer (XR18)
Phil Starr replied to Steve Browning's topic in PA set up and use
Great advice ^^ When I was mixing FOH back in the dark ages I pretty much always used headphones on the vocals, and any other channels that I was having problems with. It gives you the best starting point and helps you 'understand' the voices. With the XR18 you have the possibility of recording whole gigs giving you access to both the isolated vocals and the rest of the band. I've never found a vocalist who can really give their gig voice on demand so this is a way of collecting the vocals as they are in a real life situation and you can play them back over and over. Remember that just like any instrument the equalisation that sounds good isolated is often not great when mixed in with the band at a gig.. The bass isn't the only instrument that sounds best isolated when it has a mid scoop, the opposite of what you need at a gig. -

Worst rattle/buzz I ever had was on a 1965 Precision, where it sounded as if the trussrod was about to leap clean out of the bass every time I played a fretted G#. Spent ages fiddling and faffing with everything nearby until I gave up and took it to a luthier. He put a drop of superglue on the E-string tuner, where the cloverleaf meets the shaft. End of.

Too few strings and not enough knobs is something we have all been through. I have always hankered after active fivers but two or more basses, great in there own right have been moved on and my last purchase was a P. P/Js have always attracted me but the Jazz pup always sound weak/thin and even adding a bit of blend sounds great at home but sucks, literally, in the mix. -

Nail polish can come in glitter finish, or you can get glittery clear/gel coats. I would find a UV-cure glitter white nail polish and use a small UV pen to cure it hard, then wet sand level and polish out. White is horribly unforgiving to match as every white guitar finish has a bit of yellow, blue, grey, pink or even green in it.
