That's a nonsensical, illogical stance though. But I give you that if you stop 10 random people on the street, at least 5 will agree with you. In the real world however, the most talented musician most probably (almost but not wholly by definition) will be known by, and understood by, very few. The moment you people want to educate your kids, and think that newborn babies have little knowledge, is the moment your popular view has become a falsehood. Cue the Triangle of Knowledge. People who think that Paul McCartney is the most talented musician ever simply have no clue, and when they attack people like me for being condescending, they are in fact being arrogant themselves. It's the Dunning-Kruger effect at large.4 points

Needs a couple of prongs sticking out the top with a blue electrical wave arcing between them (and maybe a hunchback manically turning the dials as well).2 points

I know the last time I said something about not liking Prince's work, I got slagged off. I still don't like the vast majority of what I've heard of his. Like a latter-day Paul McCartney. Still, while it's OK to say what you like about Coldplay or U2, Prince is sacrosanct so I suppose I'll get slagged off again. I won't deny he's composed a lot of stuff and could play lots of instruments, but I'm not convinced of the merit of what he's composed.2 points

Looks like an original Mustang routing to me, especially considering that plate on the bottom, but someone has done a really awful job of perhaps trying to fit a standard Precision pickup in there at some point. If this routing wasn't on the original product description from Mr Baxter, I'd perhaps be having a quiet word, because if I'd known about that at point of purchase, I'd want a few extra quid off. Found images of your amp on Google, and as you say there is an external speaker jack on the front. This will do one of two things - either enable another cab to be added as well as the internal speaker in the combo (in which case will need to be at least 8 ohms?), OR enable another cab to be added whilst cutting out the internal speaker completely. Without knowing the spec of the amp and what ohmage it will work into it is dodgy trying another cab, especially if the former option is the case as it could do some damage. Only thing that may be okay is turn the treble up a bit so you can hear some hiss, then quickly insert and remove a jack plug into the socket - if the sound disappears as you do this you’ll know it disables the internal speaker. UK distributor for Stagg appears to be EMD Music in Surrey, tel. 01293 862612. Maybe worth a call to them for spec details. Cheers.2 points

When I'm playing acoustic pub jams, I often take my tiny Tanglewood Elfin bass. It's about 25" scale.... I'm 6' and yes, it does look a bit "toy-like" - but do I care? Nah! Actually, it's often my backup bass too - surprisingly, it sounds like a full size Precision (don't know what pickups they are, but they sound great) and it probably only weighs around a kilo..... maybe even less2 points

I've just been thinking it would have been Jimi's 75th birthday the other day, I would have loved to have been in Noel's place a few times! Who would you love to have played with? I first saw Hendrix on Hasting pier 22 October 1967, then again almost 3 years later in 1970 at the Isle of Wight festival, a couple of weeks before he met his untimely end. Would he have still been playing/writing today at 75 I wonder I'm getting old ?1 point

Just seen this. I've always rate Sting as a bass player and he's still playing with a ton of energy. Love the band.1 point

@ordep - I see where you are coming from. But if we're talking about cheaper then second hand is the way to go, right? I've previously said, this only makes sense for me if I can pick up a relatively mint M900 at second hand prices, otherwise I could be 'wasting' £250 on the overdrive part of the amp which I may not particularly end up using. But there have been a fair few M900s coming up in the FS whilst, taking your example, a second hand Baby Sumo 1000 is going to be as rare as hen's teeth so I could be hanging around for a while... Secondly, I may be wrong, but I'm not convinced that overlaying a pedal EQ on an amp is going to be the same or indeed as effective as having the manufacturer of the amp attune the EQ of his amp to the rest of the circuitry? I guess an illustration of this is with the M900 itself: a good number of folk have mentioned that they find the microtubes on the M900 more to their liking than on a separate pedal, whilst others have said the opposite. The point is whichever side of that debate you come down on, it's clear that the external pedal overlay is not the same as the built in feature. ...AND NOW HOPEFULLY BACK TO THE MAIN THREAD AFTER OUR BRIEF M900 DETOUR1 point

Yes but if I am getting an additional amp head (which I am, as I am going for separates for the first time) why get a different 800W to 900W class D amp with an EQ I don't like and a £250+ DG pedal to correct it? That doesn't make any sense to me.1 point

OMG, ok, I'd love to replace Doug in Kings X. Replacing Daryl in The Stones would be cool too. except he's a bit too far in the background for my taste I hope everybody is happy, making me choose fantasy over reality.? Blue1 point

I've been looking for one of these for a while. Those of you who know Kawai will know about the build quality. This will be a steal for somebody but there are 20 bids so far. Remember that you'll incur additional costs because you're importing from the Good Ole 50.. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawai-KRB-105-Graphite-neck-P-J-Gold-Schaller-Series-Parallel-24-Fret-No-Issues/172997415192?hash=item2847731118:g:QkcAAOSwH-daGdgG1 point

So the rumours about your stick are true then? I'm actively avoiding it at all costs I seem to recall you being the Farage-like figure head of the anti DarkGlass campaign due to what you consider to be their fizzy drive sound, but yet you rise from the dead like Lazarus with your imminent purchase of the Microtubes 900 amp1 point

Just kidding. Everybody can clearly see that the above amp is not gig ready. No. Thats why we need this - Bloody love that tagline! Couldn't be any more appropriate, right?1 point

Personally I love rap and hip-hop. A source of brilliant basslines a lot of the time too. Nas' Illmatic is probably the best example of thought-provoking lyrics, great instrumentals, tasteful samples (especially that Michael Jackson one, damn), and catchy hooks in the genre. I'd highly recommend it as a gateway to those who aren't familiar with rap. It paints an incredible picture of 90's NYC. Elzhi's cover of the entire album is also excellent. He re-recorded it with a jazz band (who are absolutely superb) and played around with the lyrics to make it contextually relevant to his life and Detroit (rather than Nas' life in NYC).1 point

The main issues are going to be this - The amount of phones in the audience that are in the audience with wifi enabled The amount of wireless that is in the venue on 2.4Ghz. The amount of metal that is present in the area and the receiver and transmission location in relation to large blocks of metal The power of the transmissions that have the potential to directly interfere (e.g. exact same frequency or frequencies that will cause RFI due to intermodulation) with the portion of spectrum that you are using with your wireless. The proximity of wireless transmission sources next to you receiver The proximity of devices that generate interference to your receiver... e.g. mains, faders, transformers.... I don't know the event at which you were using your wireless - but wireless co-ordination at large scale events can be very tricky! In the pro world, 2.4Ghz would never be used. 5 Ghz would tend to be avoided also... but more likely to be interference free due to more channels being available without running into intermodulation issues... there is however, a trade off (assuming like for like power output) of propagation and range. Generally, digital wireless for instruments and mics would be deployed over Channel 38, or using frequencies that have been licensed to a venue or have a time limited license for a special event. Wireless iPads are used now and again to aid mixing - but thats usually done before show time, where the risk of RF interference is lower. At show time, FOH and Monitor world will be behind their desks... or minimum, a laptop with a physical cable to the control network. For most people, 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz are going to do the business at most venues (although you may run into issues at say conference centres or hotels where there is likely to be a lot of wifi) - and of course, the big plus is they are license free. Channel 38 systems will usually solve all RF problems... HOWEVER, if you factor in the license and the cost of digital units that operate outside of the 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz frequency ranges, then you'll see the cheaper solutions are a good fix for most gigs... just don't rely on them without a backup cable!!1 point

That's all personal preference. There's nothing wrong with plugging your bass straight into the desk. There's nothing wrong with using amp and cab simulator on a digital desk if it has one. Maybe you want a preamp straight into the desk. Maybe you want a preamp into a cab simulator into the desk. I like the Kemper because it covers off my bass and guitar needs and has a plentiful supply of fx. Im really happy with it. I know the Helix well too... I would be really happy with that too. These both give you the full blown rig simulation. I actually really enjoy going through the PA without any cab simulation. I personally would like to craft in the sound of the cab via EQ rather than use the emulation. On guitar however... cab simulation for sure. On the Kemper, I use a Focusrite pre into a SSL desk profile. I love it. I tend to use a Chandler LTD1 preamp profile. That's amazing also. Of course, I then have all the inbuilt fx at my disposal via the remote. Yes, the Kemper is expensive... but if you were to ditch your whole setup (including pedal board) for a Kemper, you may find it more competitively priced. If the Kemper is still too much, the Helix... and especially the Helix LT will still get you awesome results. I had used an EBS microbass 2 straight into the desk before the Kemper. That was great. I had used my HD350 into the desk before hand - without using the power amp in it. I liked it... but the Kemper could do the same and more. The Sansamp Q strip really appeals to me... it's tone shaping is similar to that found on traditional analogue desks... but having said that, all that and more is available directly by plugging into most mixers. The key thing is, you can get "your tone" via the direct route... there's plenty of EQ in pedals, modellers and the desk to get you there. If theres must have pedals in your chain, simple... just leave them in as you would do going to an amp. Going analogue but still want a speaker sim - easy, there's plenty out there... but most of them are a take on EQ anyway. If you want to look at the more boutique speaker emulators out there, guys like Two Notes Engineering is probably where you should be looking at. http://www.two-notes.com/en/torpedo-cab - their stuff is pretty cool stuff.. and easy to deploy in a pedal board like manner. The thing is, we are pretty spoiled now. A few minutes on Google will show you whats out there... there's certainly lots to choose from.1 point

I tend to treat this 'sale' with suspicion. If they can reduce the price of stuff by several % and still turn a profit how much is the stuff really worth? My late mother worked in a shop for years (Co-op) and knew all the tricks to offload slow moving stock. Take items off the shelves and put them in one of those big wire baskets with a sign saying 'special offer' or 'our price' and folk would buy them. Another trick was to say that some item was not going to be available again and people who didn't even like the stuff would buy it! If you are in the market for something and can get it for a few quid cheaper than usual then fine but treat all sales with great caution. When have DFS ever sold their sofas at 'full price'? As for Black Friday, well it's turned into a continuous money grab that appears to be lasting for weeks!1 point
That clip sounds great, but nothing is plugged in!
Bernard's talent transcended electricity . He was so funky that the normal laws of physics did not apply to his bass playing.1 point
