Sorry but that's horsesh!t. Bowie used samples in loads of songs. Remember that tune he made with Goldie in the 90s? It was all samples.2 points

Right. I tried the QSC at rehearsal last night. Observations: - 5 piece band: drums, keys, 2 guitars, bass + vocals (Americana/rock) - Plenty of headroom - more than enough. Lots. Like buckets of it. I was at about half vol on the QSC and controlled volume on the bass or Preamp pedal. - It plays with Preamp pedals very well - gave a good representation of the sound I was after - Lots of bass for a 4 string - never felt like the lows were struggling - No parping out or rattling - nice and smooth. Response was as good as a Barefaced Compact and it was louder. - Projection across the room was also good All in all it worked very well.2 points

None of my basses play like butter thankfully. I play in a mod band and often sport a tonic suit. The mixture of heat a dairy based spreads would be a disaster.2 points

Yeah, I also have a Protection Racket rucksack, and whilst it`s a nice rucksack it is a case of pretty much everything in one compartment, so on gigs where I don`t need everything (which I generally find out at the gig, so still have to bring it all) I still had to take everything out in order to put back what wasn`t needed.1 point

Oh dear; where to start..? The pick-ups 'pick up' voltage because they are in a magnetic field being altered by the vibration of magnetic strings. The coils generate electricity, just like a car alternator, but less of it, which is why one needs pre-amps and amplifiers. It can be easily demonstrated by connecting the guitar output to an oscilloscope (so no amplifier...); the generated waveform can be easily identified and measured. If still in doubt or denial, look it up on t'web for other explanations. Nice try, though, I'll give you that.1 point

Know what you mean GST, if I can hold the course it’ll be the Omega, if I can see financial pressures (eg. ‘We could do with a new bed’ Mrs MTB) then it’ll be the Breitling....but still an auto.1 point

I played a big band gig off one of Buddy’s charts some time ago. The tempo sig was given as Orgasmo Furioso. When I politely inquired I was told it meant Go Like Fcuk. No kiddin’. BTW it is said that in his long career BR was never ever happy with any snare he used.1 point

I went into the bank last weekend, the cashier mentioned the fact that I had money in there that was not earning any interest and that there were other places they could happily move it for me, I agreed in principal so ordered the Mesa Boogie Subway cabs from Bass Direct I had been lusting after recently....job done!1 point

I sold Ian my Q-Tron+ and it was a straightforward transaction with prompt, friendly communication. Many thanks.1 point

Sorted the bridge and ferrule drill holes (it's thru-body stringing) and, after trying both in a mock-up, settled on black pickup rings with gold screws rather than the other way round. I'm doing all of the jobs that might dint the soft finish before a final flattening and the last couple of gloss coats on the body. This is how it's starting to look. Pretty sure, by the way, that the slightly skew look of the pickups is the wide angle lens and not the actual fitting - although, with me, anything is possible :1 point

I have a old USA Ampeg 6x10 and absolutely love the punch from it ...prefer it over the 8x10 and ashdown 6x10cl I had. Quiet heavy though, but can be found cheap. I use a valve head with It ( if makes a difference). I will say that the horn on it sounds crap though ( I never use one for my sound anyway)1 point

I've played one. They weigh a ton because the body is so large. Plus, they don't sound the same as the guts are totally different.1 point

I used an electric drill. I'm sure the drill was made in China (B&Q), however it did run clockwise.1 point

I've a SWR Goliath SR and it's awesome. A little on the heavy side at 115lbs but sounds amazing with the tweeter off. Best thing is no one seems to want these behemoths so are dirt cheap on the 2nd hand market. Tone wise, a great presence, strong in the mid range, a clean tight sound.1 point

I've been running a b9 and c9 on my board for a couple of years now. I go in to the input of the b9 and via the dry out to c9, and then route the bass signal out to the rest of the bass board. From the organ out of each pedal I go to an a/b box and then via a killswitch ( for when I need to mute the keys signal) and then to a di and separate channel in the desk. All I have to do from there is select which keys sound I need for the particular song, and mute / open as necessary. Pit works a dream in situ 😉 Happy to talk via pm if it helps👍👍1 point

The tension on the La Bella low tension flats is only a little higher than the TI. They are very close. If you like your La Bella FLs you might want to just try a lighter gauge of them instead1 point

Don't worry about it. To cheer you up I can put you in touch with a Nigerian prince who has a really interesting business proposition. Don't thank me yet - let's see how it pans out. I'm very excited, though.1 point

At the moment it's still Chromes - regular light gauge: 45, 65, 80, 100. Bought them October 2012. They feel and sound great. Not too stiff and really easier on the fingers.1 point

I haven't played the Kestrel or Kingfisher but I used to own a PRS EB which, from what I've seen, I think those two are quite influenced by. You see a lot of comments by the uninformed suggesting PRS do not know how to make a great bass and, being quite blunt, it's utter shite. The PRS was one of the best thought out and most comfortable basses I've ever played. Their SE stuff tends to be excellent for the money so I'd have great confidence in them being rather good indeed.1 point

LOL - yes. Mind you, they don't say what kind of dream - could be a nightmare?1 point

Hi guys, woah, there's really no need for this kind of conjecture! I'm sorry my original posting may have seemed so cryptic, I just really had no idea how to go about doing this. First up I have no intention of selling this bass nor am I a scam artist / Chinese infiltrator i am a guitarist (i know, sorry about that) who also enjoys playing bass who seemingly got some amazing luck and I'm just trying to estabslh ownership of a fantastic instrument so I can feel comfortable abut enjoying it, or if I discover that this actually wasn't meant for me then I shall gladly return it to whoever it should rightfully belong to. It really is that simple. It was bought at a Bootsale of all places so you can probably see my thoughts about its origin. After getting it home and realising it actually wasn't the Chinese fake I first thought I went, uh oh, has some poor son / daughter, neice / nephew sold this on without realising what it is they had? I have searched for any reference to the instrument having gone missing / been stolen and there is absolutely nothing I can find so I'm hoping I am, as Trevor so eloquently put it in a p.m., the luckiest bu*^er around, haha. but until i've done my very best establish that I shall keep this thread active in the hope that someone may make a connection somewhere and get in touch. I can say that once this is resolved either way I shall post full pictures and details up as it is an interesting instrument and one of those OMG moments and maybe then you'll realise why I'm unable to do so at the moment (sorry again if that seems rather cryptic!!!!).1 point
