  2. Hopefully the final prototype - first gig test tonight and then i'll make a couple more for further evaluation. Now uses microsuction tape to stick to the helix so will fit both versions and is removable / repositionable with no tape residue stuck on the helix. Screen is now 3mm thick (up from 2mm) and laser cut/engraved

  3. I've got some bills to pay, so something has to go, and as I only bought this a couple of weeks ago, I'd rather sell it than one of my old faithfuls. Nothing much to say about this bass, bought new after Christmas, plays every bit as well as is claimed, condition is as new, no extra wear or paint chips, just as it came. Original gig bag, unopened bag of Fender info, and the box it arrived in. I'd prefer to sell this to someone who can collect and try it out so they know exactly what they're getting, but willing to meet a buyer within reasonable distance of home (I live between Oxford and Swindon). As a last resort it can be couriered in the original box, but with proper insurance, it won't be cheap. Please ask if you have any questions or want further information. Sale only, I'm afraid, as I have more than enough basses, etc., but not enough money!

  5. Turn your own out of offcuts. On my Nozcaster I cut the head of a coach bolt then screwed it into an offcut, fixed it into my pillar drill, then went at it with shinto rasp followed by various grades of sanding stick. By clamping an engineering set square to the base plate you can get quite a consistent radius

  6. Cheers Al. Totally hear what you are saying, however this is a signature amp built for Geezer Butler.... Built precisely to what Geezer and his tech required with some input from us of course and the Slave Outputs were/are important to what they want. Nothing about the amp was specified down to 'felt like a good idea at the time' I promise. This was never a project to just stick an artists name on a load of existing amps and just take peoples money like one of our competitors in particular may have just done.... with that I guess they have to make the money back they are paying him somehow... ;-) Main point is that anyone buying a Head Of Doom is getting exactly the same amp as Geezer is using built by one of the same two people who built Geezers not a watered down version with his name on.

  7. But the two aren't mutually exclusive - you can be "creative" AND know how to read music. One does not prevent the other from occurring.

  8. Pics to follow but looking to move this on. Great pedal as all of the IEs are but much as I like it I'm not sure it's the right kind of dirt for me. Frankly I'm not sure if I will ever find exactly the right kind of dirt. People talk about never being able to find the perfect place to live i.e. there's always something that's not quite right etc. Well, try finding the right kind of dirt I say to them. They don't understand. Anyhow, pedal is used but in good condition. Nothing else much to report. Trades are always of interest, Zvex mastertron would definitely be well received or any other interesting noise making machines...

  9. Im aware I've prob posted this before. But I think its worth a repost. I will skip names as many know them, especially Micheal. Outstanding for me is Jonathan Maron on that white Yamaha... He blows me away with incredible solo's and technical ability, on many a Groove Collective album and with Meshell, but can play simple groove of course. Just like this. Louis Cato's drumming is just soooooo great also.

  11. The only good thing is that a new set should sound just as dead and lifeless as a 16 year old set within two gigs

  12. What I ought to add is that the knobs are ash capped in flamed maple like the body, so there was a glue-up step too It's all detailed in my lengthy PG thread

  14. Re the ‘you will our backline or else’ gigs, I had 3 or 4 of those last year, used my own kit every time. If it doesn’t need a truck to move it and your kit looks well maintained, you got there early, you’ve shaken the sound guy/ girls hand and learnt his name, even paid him/her a sincere compliment they seem to be fairly obliging.

  15. Thanks for this. I have received my CDs and have already been blown away by the bass playing on just the first side of Spirit In The Dark. This set will live in my car for a few weeks then I'm going to start learning lines from it.

  16. Nice work Andy, hope that after all the great instruments you've built for other people you're happy with the one you've built for yourself...

  17. Just bought some subs from Mike. The man is a superstar and it was an absolute pleasure to meet him. Purchased goods in better condition than described!

  21. Thanks! I've been trying to avoid the For Sale section though, as I keep looking at Eden stacks and wondering where I could find space for one, even though I'd probably get evicted for practising my Metallica and Motorhead riffs in a flat I'm keeping the GAS at bay by promising myself a stack when I've got a gig lined up. So far, it seems to be working.

  22. Yes and I think that was the point I was trying to make in my original post. I feel sorry for him. He didn't want to play bass and years later no-one is even sure what recordings he is even playing on. Some might say he was lucky but who knows what he would have done if he had followed a different path on guitar.

  23. I knew a chap once who bought a laptop bag just to pretend he owned a laptop. That was when they were something special. I pretty sure he paid a lot more than £24 too. Turns out, these days they're of more practical value than the laptop that should reside in them. Heeheehee well done that man.

  24. but now you can run a RAT cable between all your pedals! surely that's useful??... right?...

  25. I kept a small board worth for when I won't take my rack. In hindsight maybe I should have bought a floor helix rather than the rack. Even then it's a compressor, Alpha Omega, BSW sort of stuff. I haven't got round to selling my medium or large boards yet. Must do that. With the power supplies there's quite a lot of dosh there. I kept my EBS Sheehan deluxe as well- even thought he Helix now does the Pearce thing really well.

  26. I'm hoping all that will stop. I sold off 3 over the build time in order to pay for this! I still have a couple, but have been trying to cut down. Lets see

  33. Be under 30..? Oh dear. 'Making it'. What does that mean, anyway? Quite a few famous artists had a terrible time of it, really. My definition of 'making it' is not being poverty stricken, having somewhere warm and dry to live, food, drink and a loving family. Not very rock 'n' roll, I know. You can live fast, die young, do drugs, drink too much and be a rebel who plays by nobody's rules but your own if you like. Been there, done that (except for the dying young bit) - and it's highly overrated.

  35. You know what... having played through this for a few days it's really grown on me. It's loud, has loads of headroom and genuinely has tone to die for. Having said that, I'd probably die from an exploded scrotum if I had to carry it anywhere... Ow. I'm going to get Greg at Guitar Aid to fix it up and service it, then use it as my home rig. Thanks for the interest and comments, folks. *WITHDRAWN*

  39. It was a pretty daft idea in the first pace, keeping the 'C' scale as a reference, and ignoring the black notes. Once they became 'allowed' (by the church establishment, I believe..?), the notes should all have been given individual , non-ambiguous, names, so would span 11 notes (A-L...) instead of 7 (A-G...) presently. There are so many instruments that don't have a distinction (guitars, basses, slide trombones, chromatic accordions and harmonicas, plus all the violin family and more besides...). One would need to keep keys as such, for harmonic reasons, but not use sharps, flats or naturals any more, just the unambiguous note name. Too late now, I realise, but it was a daft idea, and a missed trick, I say.

  41. Odd how 'Original 60s' means '63 C neck shape, and 44mm nut but a fingerboard radius of 9.5" rather than 7.25". I suppose calling them '60s-ish' is less marketable...

  42. I bought this as a 45 in the early 70's and only recently found out that Chuck is the bassist. . . one of the funkiest bass lines I've heard.

  43. I've done private functions for years in my previous band, some amazing and some quite underwhelming. What you need to remember is nobody has come just to see you, they are there for the event and the socializing. We used to find it rewarding when a corporate / professional kind of do which looked like it would be full of people not listening turned into a jolly event with a full dance floor. With my ELO tribute band we occasionally get asked to do private events, usually because the guy booking the entertainment is a massive ELO fan and doesn't understand that most of his audience won't be. At one such event we were asked by the punters to play Mustang Sally / Brown Eyed Girl etc and they didn't get why we didn't do them

  44. Hi Spikey, and welcome to BC I've only ever played either my former Rick or my current Shaftesbury clone in Stereo mode at home... and that wasn't via a proper splitter - just using a stereo lead It did sound nice at home, but I didn't fancy carting two rigs around. (Mind you, these days I often carry a tiny spare head!) Could you think about taking one amp rig, and maybe putting the second signal into a PA? - perhaps via a D.I. or pre-amp pedal? Let us know how you get on with your live stereo experiments

  45. To be honest, it's more about knowing your capabilities and when to, or not to, wade in with the size 12's Especially when you take what would be a perfectly acceptable neck and then do THIS with it! But, with a bit more work, it became this: Then, with still a bit of fine-tuning to do, it started getting to where I think I was trying to take it: I could cut deeper than this, but to be honest, from a playing point of view, this gets me up to the 22nd fret with not the slightest feeling on the fretting thumb that I've reached the body . I'm going to classify that as 'objective met'

  46. Top fella! Purchased his old Fender 2x15 for a very reasonable cost. The cab was better than described and he was happy to oblige with the courier I organized. A true credit to this community - why aren't all ebay transactions like this!? Matt

  47. Just as an addendum to this, despite Elixirs being on both basses for so long, they still retain a distinct brightness; they've never really gone off. I'd say there's a slight dropoff in zing that you get from any string really, but once that happens they remain stable for a very long time.
