If you would like some constructive feedback on your website:- The one filter that I want to see is "Availability" - I don't want to wade through dozens of pictures on the off-chance that what I am interested in will be in stock. For example, I am interested in a 33", 32" or a short scale Fender, or maybe an Alembic - there are lots of pictures - all sold..... If I was interested in a 4-string fretless Fender (I am not) then I don't want to see the 10 you have sold - at least not in that section of the website. It would be better if you put them somewhere else., or allowed Sold items to be filtered out first.9 points

For those BCers that have never listened and voted in the Composition Challenge, please have a listen and take part. Voting finishes tonight. This month's tracks are all great pieces of music in their own right. Having entered previously, I know that a lot of effort goes into writing these pieces and for 7 people to write and perform music just for 9 people to cast votes is a little disheartening! Come on, support your fellow BCers.4 points

This was my last experience of the the Bass Gallery. Just after Boogie brought out the Subway series of cabs, I ordered two (15s) from the shop. The first one arrived and the second took a little longer (from the Boogie end). Once I had the pair, I ran them up and there was a clear rattle coming from one of them. I did everything I could to check things over (made sure all the screws were tight etc) to no avail. Eventually, I contacted Boogie (luckily, a good mate is an endorsee) and Boogie conceded that the speaker must be faulty. Through the Bass Gallery they agreed to send over a replacement speaker. As someone who has a 'real' job to keep a roof over the family's head, I couldn't easily get time off to head up to London but the guy who was going to do the swap (I apologise for not remembering the name) actually delayed leaving for his holiday (that day) to meet me at the shop. he didn't rush around but took his time to open up the box and remove the speaker ready to swap out the rattling one. After getting it out the trouble was evident. The guy stapling in the wadding had obviously reloaded his staple gun and a block of 4 staples had dropped in and stuck to the magnet, near the cone. With those gone, the speaker behaved as it should. Having opted to keep the original speaker, I was offered the replacement one free of charge - on the proviso that I would return it if Boogie wanted it back. They never did and so I have a spare speaker in case I ever need it. I doubt I will becaue my diesel 2x15 has lasted for 30 years without fault. Before then, I had only bought a wreck of a Precision from the shop so I was not any kind of regular. I was hugely impressed by the level of service and customer care shown. For that, they will always be my number 1 store.3 points

I know there's been confusion over the buzzer system we have so let me explain that. All three of us work down in the basement so the upstairs part of the shop is often unmanned and due to being in a busy part of London with a high crime rate we have keep the door shut! However we'll ALWAYS answer the door if you ring the buzzer! Or if you can't find the buzzer just knock and we'll rise from the bass dungeon to let you in3 points

I've also visited the website and seen those multitude of SOLD basses. It would be much more user friendly to have all SOLD basses in their own section2 points

+1 The overall volume of a band is surely down to how loud the drummer is. My current band has a great drummer who can play very quietly and it's a blessed relief, to be honest. I don't care what happens, I'm sticking with this guy! A quiet-playing band also makes it much easier to rehearse, compose and get a good overall sound in general. Makes a huge difference when you're not pushing earplugs in, dealing with nosebleeds and gritting your teeth. A very loud band is just unnecessary, unprofessional and is also very tiring, both for players and listeners. *Awaits backlash from those who must be loud 'to get my sound' and so on... yawn.*2 points

Excellent point and one we hear quite often. We do like to keep our sold stock on the website as it can give you an idea of the kind of stock we've had in the past (some people also just like the bass porn), however I do agree that it can clutter the website. Behind the scenes we're currently working on some tweaks to our website which will hopefully solve this problem!2 points

+1 about premium strings. I put a used set of D’Addario Chromes on my pb50 and it sounds really great. Lots of vintage, fat sounding goodness.2 points

This is a great example of studio bass mixing with that big deep bottom likely high passed on the DI signal, then a low passed signal on the clacky top end signal with a drive (SansAmp?), maybe a Distressor or Fatso Jr. working it's magic too - you can hear loads of compression on it keeping it all tight and even and sitting just right in the mix. You can still hear the clank on top with the whole mix but it sits really well and just add that definition to the bass in the track. I think it's a good bass tone and it's certainly a good fit for this song but it's been crafted for that song to be fair. It's more pleasing than that last video of Cici but then it sounds like her signal is a direct D.I. signal rather than the amp. There's certainly no mic on the cab and I'd say it's a clean signal that the sound man is using for FOH mix. It's pretty terrible which is more a reflection on the sound man to be honest but yeah maybe that's what they wanted the bass to sound like.2 points

Hello BassChat! Charlie here from The Gallery... Since BassChat is where you're all hanging out these days we thought we'd join in on the fun and start our own thread! We'll be keeping you up to date with new stock, shop news and all that jazz. This is also another way for you to reach us with any enquiries! If you've never heard of us, this is who we are and what we're about: We're a bass specialist shop situated in Camden, London. The Gallery opened in 1993 and since then has been London's largest bass-only store. We have a huge selection of basses, amps, effects and accessories (new, pre-owned and vintage!). The basement (bassment?) of the shop is home to Sei Bass, which comprises of top luthiers Martin Petersen & John Chapman. They build wonderful custom bass guitars and offer a long list of workshop services. Below are a few pictures of our shop plus a couple of photos of Sei Basses so you can get an idea of what we do... That's it from me for now but I'm sure you'll be seeing more of me on BC from now on! Love, Charlie & The Bass Gallery crew.1 point

It does sound like a problem with the voice coil I'm afraid, speakers can be fitted with new coils and cones but it can be a substantial proportion of the cost of a new driver. Wembley speakers http://wembleyloudspeaker.com/ or Blue Aran do this sort of repair. Before you give up on this have a look to see if anything is loose on the speaker or if there are any tears in the cone itself, they could be repaired at home. Also look at the flexible wires that connect the speaker terminals to the cones/coil. I've had problems with them coming away in old Fanes. Yes pushing a speaker cone with a cup or a pint mug is safer as it spreads the load, be gentle.1 point

The Father of headless basses, Ned Steinberger, designed a tuning system that does just that for the NS Radius bass. I do love those Leduc basses too.1 point

Can the vulnerability be used to turn the guitarist down mid-gig? If so, that's useful!1 point

@Marc S my Jazz build was a £70 kit from eBay with a paulownia body (I think the sellers name is twin-cam and he sells bodies on their own for about £30 ish + p&p) @Geek99 your right they don’t drill the ground hole for the bridge1 point

What a load of rubbish. Its the job of the singer to sing and be the focal point (most of the time). If the singer is part of a band then he is part of a band. Its a team effort. If the band (inc the signer) rehearse a song why does the singer get to change things on the night without asking the other's?. What if someone else in the band is struggling to play faster? The whole night could go to pot if the band cant keep up. A singer is a singer, not some sort of higher being. I do realise that a lot of singers feel they are 'god', and its only them on stage, but just because they think that doesn't mean its true, and anyone with an ego that size really should check themselves in to a clinic. If you are hired to back a singer then fair enough, you do as you are told, but if you are a band then the singer has no right to expect to call the shots, unless he is a Richard.1 point

Same for amps and cabs. I am looking for a Berg CN112 and keep seeing that you have one, but it was sold months ago. Not very helpful.1 point

I`ve found that picks really make a difference. I`m trying to go lighter as I have a tendency to dig in a lot, and hopefully this will reduce this a bit. Plus the thicker the pick the bassier the sound, so I`m also hoping to be able to add some lows in on my pre-amp and start letting my equipment generate the sound, rather than my hard-hitting, and let the thinner pick generate the top-end that I need.1 point

Lovely basses. I do like an ash body with nice grain & stain. Dual truss rod on the blue one is a nice feature too. Welcome to BC by the way!1 point

Sorry to hear that! I hate the thought that people have had negative experiences at the shop. Of course, being in retail (and ultimately being humans!), there are going to be times where things go wrong but that's not what we're about at all! We pride ourselves on customer service and would always hope that our customers tell us if they are unhappy with the service that they receive. We're always open to suggestions on how we can improve our business and that's one of the reasons why we're now active on BC.1 point

I’ve noticed bass prices across the board have increased substantially. I see used basses selling on eBay for more than what they cost to buy new. Crazy! Seems people think everything on sites like eBay etc are cheaper than buying new.1 point

Also had a third party neck (Fender spec) and fitted perfectly in HB neck pocket.1 point

Cheers for all the comments. Progress on this has been slow recently - between work and the garage being so cold getting some of the remaining jobs done is taking a while!! The fretboard had been radiused and the frets have been installed. I filled the gaps at the end of the fret slots with the sanding dust from the fretboard and some epoxy and I've started dressing the fret ends but this isn't finished yet. I've also shielded the control cavity and soldered the pots and jack; the pickup is yet to be installed. I made battery holder for the cavity and fitted this with a couple of screws - I'm quite pleased how this has turned out. I've also fitted the string anchors which was one of the last fiddly jobs. Hopefully I'll get to do some more work on it next Friday - I'd like to get it assembled and check the neck angles etc. before I complete the finish. Cheers Jez1 point

Here are my two new working basses. I had kind of given up playing in bands after doing it for around 25 years and had sold all my working basses but then an opportunity came up to join my friends band. They are a very busy, popular club band playing stuff from the 50s and 60s so I was in need of a couple of working basses. I've gone from doing zero gigs to about 60 a year. The first is a Fender Jazz American Vintage 75 Reissue and the second is a Fender Precision FSR 70's Reissue. Both are amazing to play and I love how they look similar.1 point
