Perfectly understandable. We're all different. I understand how gigging a lot can work for some and not others. I answer to no one and can sleep as late as I want. I'm single by design, as a matter of fact, I broke up with the last woman I dated because I knew she didn't get rock & roll or gigging. Our guitarists wife comes to every single gig with him, she's never missed a show in the 7 years I've been with the band. I asked her why; "Because I love watching my husband do something he loves" That's the kind of lady I need to meet. No woman is ever going to give me any type of grief about gigging. The money I earn from gigging means so much more to me than the salary I drew when I was a part of the traditional workforce. And I had a great paying career. I still feel that getting paid to have fun and do something you love is, well you can't beat it. Sure there's little inconveniences and every gig won't be great, but I still wouldn't trade away gigging for anything. I'm not important enough to hate any genre of music as long as it's professional and played well and I get paid to do it. I truly love this business and I love playing. BTW, sorry about the rant. In October of 1978 I saw Slade play the first night of six in a nightclub chain. Very little advertising and the bouncers were turning away fans who weren't dressed "smart but casual". Slade played to 19 punters in a 1000 capacity venue; the smallest crowd in their professional career. they still talk about it yet. When they came on Noddy Holder said "Jeeesus, did you all come on the same bus?"2 points

... and done (all except the 'Smilies'; I'll do them later, one by one...). Enjoy.2 points

Ableton is fine for programming drums, however it's arguably not the best DAW for 'band/instrument' recording, it's way more geared towards electronic music (which it's amazing at). As such you may want to look at Garageband, or Logic (running in it's simplified mode......allows you to get more advanced when you're ready), as mentioned above, they both have very useable drum sequencers. Fun fact, although Logic's drum tracks appear as an audio wave at first, you can simply drag the part onto a spare soft-instrument track and it will show you the midi score......you could then apply any drum sounds soft-instrument (DFH, Tooktrak etc) on that track. Allows you to pull together drum grooves very easily, then apply your own preferred sounds to that groove. Si2 points

I find them an exceptional band. I know a lot of folk don't like JK, but he's a great front man & a great vocalist too. The bassline in this is fantabulous...2 points

It might be better to accept that than spend hours digging through the box mountain in the loft to find the certificate, and then when I've found it, some clever so-and-so will say I photoshopped it!2 points

I would look at the Pedaltrain Nano/Metro series. They have a planner app on their site to help your work out which model will be the right fit. Then if you want a flexible power supply that will fit underneath then you'll be after a Cioks DC5 (sold by HotRox) or a Onespot CS6 (Andertons currently cheapest). For cables I would recommend a solderless kit like Evidence Audio SIS or Tightrope for their ultra low profile plugs and the ability to change lengths as your board evolves.2 points

Yeah she's here, also picked up a Blackstar Beam from someone on here - getting some lovely sounds and having fun learning some of my favourite songs. Going to look into online tuition courses or a rough order of what to learn and google how to do those things. So far having a great time with it.1 point

The main price field cannot be changed once posted. This is to avoid people listing things for free then adding the price, or adding extra items to an existing advert. However, to reduce the price of a listed item, simply edit your first post and add some text to say the item is reduced. This can be at the top of the post for maximum visibility. You can also add it to the title of the thread. This way, users will see the original price but then also a reduced price in the post and/or thread title. The alternative, if you have a yearly subscription, is to post the ad again and tell us to delete the old one. In the future we may allow editing if the main price field but we can only do that once we modify the way free listings appear to stop the scammers. Hope that helps ped1 point

Hi Bill looks like our posts crossed. there's no doubts about the effects you mention or that the Q of the cab is changed by filling the airspace but I've seen all sorts of claims for 'damping' from the use of high density materials to kill panel resonances through placement to kill standing waves within the cab and so on and so on. We'll both be aware of some of the claims and counter claims about damping materials. Without decent software and test gear it's not an easy thing to be able to say put x amount of stuffing in this part of your cab. Some of the treatments I've seen in commercial cabs leaves the impression that they've done it just so it looks right. Kevin, my advice is to find an old polyester filled duvet and experiment with the material in that, Dacron is just the brand name. using the material to hand lets you do a lot of experimenting at little or no cost.1 point

Best solution for GAS: bass bashes! I was cleared of a lot of GAS and saved a lot of money through my meetings with a hand full of friends. Between all of us we tried almost every brand of high end bass and amplification you could think of. Liked some, hated some, was unispired by others. It's a great way of everybody getting to know different equipment and finding out what works for each other. And the truth is that no piece of gear is better than the other, each is more apropriate for each one of us. That's why me and my friends tried the same gear and ended with different equipment suited to each one's needs. The total investment wasn't much as it was shared by all, each time everybody replaced a few bits of equipment a new meeting was scheduled. Great fun and great lunches with very nice people.1 point

If it does its job, then you've proved it is what you want. So the next stage is to get one made in ebony; to look black next to the pickups. Ebony will be a bit more expensive, but look and feel right.1 point

In the last few days my machine heads, bridge and neck plate have all arrived. I’m hoping the grain filler will arrrive tomorrow as I have a bit of spare time when I can do the first application. I’m thinking about adding a tug bar for purely cosmetic reasons too as I think they look pretty cool.1 point

I'm sitting here open-mouthed in disbelief at what I've just read. If you made that statement to deliberately be controversial and get a reaction, well OK, you got me. If you genuinely believe this, I'm afraid I don't have the time or the patience to get into precisely why what you posted is so wrong on so many levels, but I'm sure someone else will. Musicians are to blame? Really??1 point

Ha ha, I remember posting once that I found Zender's playing inspirational and receiving a similar response from you Nik! Consistency is a virtue! Horses for courses mate, there's something about the way he phrases that's quite magical, as is suggested by the OP, it ain't the notes, it's playing them right that's the problem.1 point

Sad... used to be a national touchstone. You'd watch with your Granny who like Lena Martell. Your sister would like Duran Duran. You'd be waiting for the Smiths. OK I mixed up the time-zones there but you get the picture. Now the charts are just anonymous. Does anyone know what is no 1 this week?1 point

This ^ In that past year I've seen hollie cook, katchafire, Lee scratch Perry, black seedsamongst others. The bass player is always plying a steinberger.1 point

Reviving an old thread about varitones, rather than starting a new one - just wondering if any BCers are fans of them? (Or otherwise..... ) My only previous experience was on a BC Rich CS NT Eagle bass, which rather bizarrely had a 9V active output boost with passive Varitone, which to be honest I wasn't too impressed with and usually left on "bypass". Generally I prefer passive basses anyway, and rarely touch the treble roll-off tone control. However, I was recently looking for a decent wiring harness to put in my latest bitsa P bass build, and bought one off this forum from (top fella) greenolive, which had an integral Tonestyler Varitone: http://www.stellartone.com/Page.asp?NavID=313 - replacing the tone control, with the standard tone control on a stacked double pot with the volume control. Thought I'd give it a go, especially as it was only a couple of quid more than a standard P harness, and the components were top notch. Have to say I'm knocked out by how good it is; the darker settings give a thick, punchy bass and midrange with all of the growl and clarity intact and none of the woolly mushiness of a standard passive tone - really usefully sculpts the sound. Wonder why varitones aren't more widely used?1 point

Aligned the tuners (and removed the stickers). Before: after: No filling and drilling, there was just enough space to move the tuners around in a aligned position after loosening the screws. Routed the cavities for the pickups in the body.1 point

A bit bored waiting for the next PB-Shorty that should be delivered today... To kill some time made and edited a picture of the things that are already prepared for this one. Not sure yet which pickguard ring I'm going to use for the bridge position, for the time being I'm using the black one.1 point

Made a new pickguard for the MMB-Shorty. Old: Got bored with this one. New: I was making one last week for the upcoming RiB-Shorty conversion project and I could get two pickguards from one pickguard plate.1 point

Built in and wired. going to check it more serious tonight, during quick & dirty testing I noticed the pickups were influencing each others volume, probably need to solder in some resistors, also need to take a better listen to the phase of the Jazz pickup.1 point
