We saw one a few years back called Oasish, they had the whole Schtick down perfect, muddy wall of sound, no charisma between them, gormless looking front man..they were spot on! 😁3 points

Full on - and take care of any EQ from amp or DAW. With a passive bass you really want all the output the pickup has to offer.3 points

Never thought I would do it, but my aluminium addiction is getting worse and I have decided to part with my Sandberg VM5. I have ordered and got it from Sandberg in 2013, but I have switched to 4 strings soon after. It sounds great and has won most of the blind tests among my other basses. Mint condition (always wanted to make this joke). But seriously, it has some slight sights of use and has absolutely no functional problems. Now for specs: Alder Body Maple with rosewood fingerboard neck and matched headstock NO INLAYS (has block decales now) 35" scale Sandberg pickups with 2 active/passive preamp with bridge coils split Comes with original gigbag ~4.5kg on bathroom scales Actually has no neck inlays - blocks on the photos are only stickers, happy to take them off if you want to. 1100 1000 GBP. Based in London, but can organise a courier at buyers expense.2 points

Epoxy preamp. pots dats 77 and 78. Frets are in very good condition, truss rod works fine. The playability and sound are really fantastic. Weight is 4,3 kg, so relatively light. Generic hardcase included. £2000 Pricedrop £1875 WITHDRAWN2 points

Just got and fitted a lovely new Electro Harmonix valve from our friends at Watford Valves, as recommended by Derek as an early breakup valve. In short it sounds fantastic in my Trace. With the valve pre set to full, the gain at 9 and the low compression at half, it gives me that tiny bump of breakup at the edge of every plucked note. Been pursuing that tone for so many years and have finally got it.2 points

For some its Spend a fortune on boutique basses i need, because i cant play on anything other than hand built basses, but never leave the bedroom with them, so spend more money on basses that im happy to take to gigs (and amazingly, i can play them)2 points

Hi guys We've dealt with this character before. He always uses 'Gear' at the beginning of his username and joins from a Nigerian based IP (we've now banned access from all Nigerian IPs) but now he's found out how to use a VPN it seems. I'm going to add a warning about scammers in the wanted forum as it seems this is always how he contacts people. At the weekend Rik and I are doing some work on the forum and one job will be to flush this idiot away once and for all. Sorry about that chaps ped2 points

If you'd read my post right at the beginning of this thread you'd know that the three bolt micro-tilt system was dropped because Fender's engineering practices and quality control did not allow the mechanism to be installed in such a way that let it to operate as intended without any unwanted side effects. If the neck pocket and heel of the neck have been machined properly a single bolt would be all that is required. It the mating surfaces are flat so that there is 100% contact and the neck is a snug fit in the pocket, the bolt is only there to hold the two parts together when under the tension of the strings and even then much of the force exerted on the joint will be tending to pull the neck tighter into the pocket. The bolt is only there counteract the lifting action of the string pull.2 points

I played guitar for 30 years and have been playing bass for about 15 years and have never got it. I've had lessons. Read books. Gone online. Bought 'better' basses. I'm still a root, 5th octave player who throws in a pentatonic every now and then. I think the understanding music part of the brain is related to language and maths, and I (even though I'm 1/2 'foreign') can hardly speak a word of another language and had extra maths every Saturday morning throughout my school days (I'm not bad now, but I'm not a natural). But, I play in two bands. We get paid gigs and I'm complemented on my playing by the rest of the band (though of course, they could be sh*t too and just don't recognise if I'm good or bad). Learn as much as you can, if you can, but don't let it get in the way of enjoying playing.2 points

Up for sale goes a nice vintage Yamaha BB1000S bass guitar in a beautiful transparent red finish. It sports neck-through-body maple/mahogany neck with dark rosewood fretboard and alder body wings. Original pickups had been replaced with EMG active pickups with passive vol-vol-tone controls. Neck is comfy, smooth and straight. Truss rod working as it should, frets show some signs of use but there is still a lot of life left in them. The weight is about 4,5 kg (10 lb) on my traveller scales. PayPal payment possible (buyer covers the fee), shipping within EU will take £30. It will be well boxed and insured for shipping. More photos can be found here: http://s1030.photobucket.com/user/koval123/slideshow/Yamaha BB1000s?sort=91 point

BASS NOW SOLD A new Precision purchase means I ought to replenish some funds! I bought this from Rich on here just over a month ago. It has been nicely customised with a mint(?) pickguard that looks the business (the original Tort IS included in the sale too), faux earth strip, thumb rest and strap button on the rear of the headstock. The red nitro finish with the roadworn wear looks great. Action is good with straight neck. Comes with nice Westfield gigbag and original Fender blurb in the bag pocket. This is priced a full £500 cheaper than a new one... which looks much like a used one 🙂 The bass is in Doncaster but I have packaging for a courier if needed. Please note I'm NOT looking for trades thanks... I'm trying to settle on my new Precision !!1 point

That's interesting, Merton. Like you, I really like this amp, and having to eq it a bit doesn't detract in the slightest. There are lots of popular bass amps out there that have a "tailored" frequency response. It's just that nerds like me prefer to know what the tailoring is - if I'm not imagining it, of course.1 point

Thanks for the reply. I actually went for the Clip in the end, not the pedal as apparently, they're even more accurate than the pedals. (So they say)😂1 point

The COG T16 is indeed a really good octave pedal. (Make sure you get the v2 which has corrected a low volume issue on the v1) @ped no probs - we all appreciate the job / time and effort that you mods expend on our behalf. And great that the community (ambient in this case) have each other's backs. @BenR24 - you should be fine. It's when you start giving out bank details or clicking on links in emails that it can start getting messy. Just put a block on the guy from replying to your email account to avoid getting follow up crap from him.1 point

So it will - but I find I get more control over mids from the amp, particularly one with low and high mid controls - or better yet, a parametric or semi-parametric mid control. But it's whatever floats your boat, obviously.1 point

Well, if we're going back a bit, here I am playing with a band called East Side Cruisers at the Greyhound in Fulham Palace Road in1975............. ................. '63 Precision ! Wonder where it is now................1 point

Finished at last. I'm quite happy for my first attempt. Followed a You Tube video for the covering. To be honest my corners aren't that good, thankfully mostly hidden by the metal corner caps. Was a labour of love, probably cost me way more than it's worth but I'm a happy cat. Finished with a Lotus badge ..... just because I could ha ha. Hope you like it. Andy1 point

The Laylas are actually quite a boring listen - the treble is pretty recessed and overall, it's quite dark sounding despite the piece trying to be sold as a flat reference piece... but I think I need to give them another go I think. But then again, flat can be boring. They aren't going to be used for critical mixing of listening... so I should but the one that puts a smile on my face when I use them live. But then again, I've got the means of EQing them with an inch of their life with the setup I run with. Hmm. The 18t I have a couple of reservations over - the size. I've only seen the universal version of it... and it's a bit of a beast. I'm beginning to think that the 12t is where it's at... but then again... I need to have a decent listen to them all again. The A8 has always stood out to me as one of my fave 64s... but that's gone off the table now due to the arrival of N8... but I'm not sure I want to go the dynamic route... But talking of dynamics... there's always the UEs. Decisions, decisions.1 point

For your budget, secondhand... Head: Peavey Firebass 700 + Tech 21 Sansamp Bass Driver or Line 6 Lowdown HD750 Cab: x2 Peavey 410 tvx or Peavey 810 tvx It's heavy gear, but super reliable, super loud and you should be able to get either option for under 400 notes.1 point

In this context it makes no difference. I agree however that three wheeled cars fall over more often than four wheeled ones.1 point

Updated on this, having lived with the bass for a few weeks: it’s now wearing flatwounds, which feel and sound excellent. It’s completely the wrong sound for my band so I’ve not gigged it yet, as I’d planned, but I have a project in mind which might or might’nt happen, for which it’d be perfect. Great for noodling around at home to old Motown tunes too, what fun!1 point

Rather that than what Martin Guitars did a few years ago. Did a signature guitar for someone who might have been famous in the popular music world but wasn’t actually known as a guitar player or performer of any sort (he did some keys and arrangements for an obscure band you’ve probably never heard of)... Step forward the Martin Guitars George Martin signature acoustic gutiar...1 point

They're not what you'd call the perfect modding platform with their proprietary pickups and bridge so I'd go with chris_b and get another bass. The pickups and electronics are what make it a G&L so if you change those you'd killing your resale value. If it's just a noise issue have it looked at by a tech. It'll be something simple. Beyond strings and tuners (which I'd only change if they didn't hold tune or were too heavy) I'd leave it well alone.1 point

Tanglewood, specifically this one. This is my second as I always regretted selling the first one I had. It has active pickups and sounds fantastic.. cost to me : £401 point
