  4. Not had this very long at all but we just aren’t getting enough time together. This is an absolutely mint, pristine, as new 2018 MusicMan Caprice Bass in diamond blue. Only just taken the plastic off the scratch plate so even that is mark free. This is a passive bass with p and j position humbuckers. The passive sound is very flexible and it’s easy to find a good sound in the mix - however I haven’t had the chance to get this honed down has its only been used in a couple of rehearsals at the studio. I’ve reduced the bass to a very reasonable £1150, I have a dealer offer at this level so this is as low as it goes. Apologies on the pooh quality of the iPad piccies, unfortunately no natural light in the frozen North at this time of year. I’d prefer a meet up as I don’t trust the post around the silly season, but will entertain travelling up to a radius of around 50miles around Sheffield. Unfortunately UK sale only.... Edit, forgot to mention, these are very lightweight for a MM, this one comes in around 8lbs on my digital scales.

  10. Below, the OG of the Fender Roscoe Beck Model, if not mentioned beforehand. My STEVENS Slant 4, from Michael Stevens, https://www.stevensguitars.com/news/ One of America's best, an original builder for FCS. Michael built the model as a 6-string for Roscoe, later Fender made their variant which is highly regarded. Mine is light and powerful. Stevens winds the pups & pretty much builds by hand. It took close to 2 years to get; I was originally told 1 year, but brush fires around his compound in Texas delayed things a bit! One of my faves, for sure.

  11. Hi All, I am putting up for sale/trade my Atelier Z M265 5-String in beautiful natural finish. I acquired this in a trade here on the forum in 2016 after I stupidly sold my Xotic. (See old post: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/286295-traded-atelier-z-jazz-bass-5-string/?tab=comments#comment-3066036) The bass came with a really nice upgrade too; a John East Preamp with sweepable mid controls. It allows you to dial in pretty much any tone you want (The upgrade alone is probably worth £300!) The bass specs are very similar to the Jerry Barnes model: http://w.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Jerry_Barnes_5.html The bass is located in North London and comes with very sturdy Atelier Z flightcase. Collection preferred but I can arrange courier at buyers expense. As far as trades go, I would really prefer to go back to the Xotic XJ1T 5 string or one of the newer Xotic XJ Pro 1 Models (preferably in Vintage White). Any questions, PM me!

  17. I do the lights for my 4 piece band and have found the following approach work well. All lights are LED. - 3 par cans with white light on stands at side/front of stage, one for each band member except drums. These are permanently on and are pointed at chest height to avoid shining in our eyes. We found this to work better than having these lights on the floor pointing upwards. Colour and effect lighting is then to the rear and side as follows; - Colour stage washes on stands at sides. - Contrasting colour lights on floor to sides and on drums. - Moving head lights to sides on floor and on stand behind drums. 25. I was about to audition for a band over ten years ago. I'd seen an ad on party sounds, I think. They talked a good game and said they'd done European tours, went on about welcoming people in and being open minded and accepting and so on... So I'm thinking that's great, they aren't expecting a session pro. So I look up the band name to try and find evidence of this European tour.... The only musically related online article I found was a blog by a musician. Long story short and unbeknownst to me, the band name was a coded way of asking a man you don't know if he is a homosexual. Being a younger and less open minded chap I politely declined the audition saying I don't think I'm the right fit for them. When they asked why I revealed I had just found out what the band name meant and I don't think I'd be comfortable being in that band and made some joke about being from a northern backwater town. I received back a lecture on my small mindedness and how places don't make people.... The whole thing was a very bizzare experience and left me feeling puzzled and slightly ashamed, though I was only ever polite to the person I interacted with.

  26. I started a thread on this forum in early October about the weight of bass guitars and why the manufacturers or dealers don't specify the weights of the instruments. I've just changed my bass for a lighter model because I have back trouble and even my 9lb Chowny was too much for me after a short while. My new Italia Cavo (semi-hollow) bass is around 7lb and sounds good with flat wound strings. It also is much kinder to my 68 year old spine than the Chowny. I loved the Chowny but my back didn't appreciate its mass.

  31. Replacement P or J bass tuners in almost new condition. They fit straight onto a P or J bass neck. They've had minimal use. I mounted them once on a a neck, but replaced them because gold tuners looked better on that particular bass. £15 including postage to UK . PayPal is fine

  33. Stunning 1980 pre EB Musicman Stingray Bass in Tobacco Burstwith beautiful wear and patina. 1980 two tone burst Stingray, super road worn as can be seen. The bass had extremely comfortable neck, sounds just as you would expect from a preEB - slap machine but with a lot of lows and low mids, plus the bespoken endless harmonics. Not a bad weight - about 4kg., neck is straight, truss rod works, frets have plenty of life in them, action is very good. As far as I know from the previous owner couple of screws are not original, the volume pot has been changed, had a tiny crack at the truss rod nut (now fixed and stable). The original case is present but crooked - handle broken, etc. Welcome to come and try. No trades and can courier if required or collection and test drive welcome ( coffee and biscuits are included in price) I have owned this twice now, just bought back from Markus who I sold it too but something special has come up that I must have! Damn GAS! Cheers Paul

  34. The moment of truth is almost here, asked my local PMT to get a QSC K12.2 and a K10.2 in so I can try them out along with several RCF speakers that they already have in stock. So, on Friday, I’ll be taking the Rob Allen Mouse along with a Fishman Platinum pre amp and seeing if I too can kill RnR. I shall post my findings here.

  35. Well, this week I picked it up. This is the first new instrument I've bought in close to 20 years, having wheeled and dealed in used gear for a long time. I must say that I'm impressed with the build quality. I love the fact the back of the neck is satin, as I've been moving away from sticky glosses for the past while. After a quick setup, I've got it close to where I want it. It's a little raspy in places but I'm sure with a bit of tweaking that will pass. Sound wise it falls somewhere between my stock 2004 MIM P and my Parts Jazz (with 75RI pickups). It certainly sounds warmer and less aggressive than my P. I'm not blown away when the Jazz pickup is soloed, but the P soloed, both on full, or the jazz backed off a little is to my liking. This is all just going straight into my DAW and back on headphones mind, as I'll be trying it in rehearsal later this week. The only slight concern I have is the G saddle is pulling down a bit (as in to the floor in playing position) but I'm considering swapping the stock bridge on my P to a high mass, so I may do it here too. I'm also itching to try GZR's on my P so I may put a set in this too. Another touch I really like is the headstock. It just has "Fender" and "Jaguar Bass" on it. Very minimal and elegant. All in all, I'm happy. I figured I'd be doing some modding, so I'm not disappointed. I'll give it a honeymoon first though. Now a couple of pics, including one with my P for comparison.

  38. They're a custom set wound to 125TW 100 80 60 40 28 in Nickel, and they are wound to feel as close to those gauges on 34" as they can be at 31.5" scale. I believe they have thicker cores. I tried heavier and lighter strings, regular, tapered, and exposed core and the 125TW felt about right. I've played Nickel for a long old time, but I've just ordered a Stainless Steel set for one of my 6ers to maybe get a little more bite. All in, I can't recommend Newtone strings enough. I used to use DRs, mainly Sun Beams, but their quality control became appalling, and as much as I liked the Sun Beams, they were a little too mellow, and the Lo Riders, a little too much. The Newtone Nickels sit perfectly in between for me, the feel of Sun Beams, but with a little more edge and poke. They're hand made here in the UK, so using them supports a local business too is a nice extra as well. If anyone wants to hear how the B is on the shorter scale with these custom Netwone strings, here's some samples I did when I got my first ACG short(er) scale 6, apologies in advance for the playing >> Cheers, Eude

  40. There always were great sounding light-weight basses. My 1969 P bass weighs about 8lbs. I know there were heavy basses that sounded good but there are many well made lighter basses that sound amazing, so the idea that you need a heavy bass in order to make a better sound really was/is a myth.
