  4. Not had this very long at all but we just aren’t getting enough time together. This is an absolutely mint, pristine, as new 2018 MusicMan Caprice Bass in diamond blue. Only just taken the plastic off the scratch plate so even that is mark free. This is a passive bass with p and j position humbuckers. The passive sound is very flexible and it’s easy to find a good sound in the mix - however I haven’t had the chance to get this honed down has its only been used in a couple of rehearsals at the studio. I’ve reduced the bass to a very reasonable £1150, I have a dealer offer at this level so this is as low as it goes. Apologies on the pooh quality of the iPad piccies, unfortunately no natural light in the frozen North at this time of year. I’d prefer a meet up as I don’t trust the post around the silly season, but will entertain travelling up to a radius of around 50miles around Sheffield. Unfortunately UK sale only.... Edit, forgot to mention, these are very lightweight for a MM, this one comes in around 8lbs on my digital scales.

  10. Below, the OG of the Fender Roscoe Beck Model, if not mentioned beforehand. My STEVENS Slant 4, from Michael Stevens, https://www.stevensguitars.com/news/ One of America's best, an original builder for FCS. Michael built the model as a 6-string for Roscoe, later Fender made their variant which is highly regarded. Mine is light and powerful. Stevens winds the pups & pretty much builds by hand. It took close to 2 years to get; I was originally told 1 year, but brush fires around his compound in Texas delayed things a bit! One of my faves, for sure.

  11. Hi All, I am putting up for sale/trade my Atelier Z M265 5-String in beautiful natural finish. I acquired this in a trade here on the forum in 2016 after I stupidly sold my Xotic. (See old post: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/286295-traded-atelier-z-jazz-bass-5-string/?tab=comments#comment-3066036) The bass came with a really nice upgrade too; a John East Preamp with sweepable mid controls. It allows you to dial in pretty much any tone you want (The upgrade alone is probably worth £300!) The bass specs are very similar to the Jerry Barnes model: http://w.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Jerry_Barnes_5.html The bass is located in North London and comes with very sturdy Atelier Z flightcase. Collection preferred but I can arrange courier at buyers expense. As far as trades go, I would really prefer to go back to the Xotic XJ1T 5 string or one of the newer Xotic XJ Pro 1 Models (preferably in Vintage White). Any questions, PM me!

  17. I do the lights for my 4 piece band and have found the following approach work well. All lights are LED. - 3 par cans with white light on stands at side/front of stage, one for each band member except drums. These are permanently on and are pointed at chest height to avoid shining in our eyes. We found this to work better than having these lights on the floor pointing upwards. Colour and effect lighting is then to the rear and side as follows; - Colour stage washes on stands at sides. - Contrasting colour lights on floor to sides and on drums. - Moving head lights to sides on floor and on stand behind drums. 25. I was about to audition for a band over ten years ago. I'd seen an ad on party sounds, I think. They talked a good game and said they'd done European tours, went on about welcoming people in and being open minded and accepting and so on... So I'm thinking that's great, they aren't expecting a session pro. So I look up the band name to try and find evidence of this European tour.... The only musically related online article I found was a blog by a musician. Long story short and unbeknownst to me, the band name was a coded way of asking a man you don't know if he is a homosexual. Being a younger and less open minded chap I politely declined the audition saying I don't think I'm the right fit for them. When they asked why I revealed I had just found out what the band name meant and I don't think I'd be comfortable being in that band and made some joke about being from a northern backwater town. I received back a lecture on my small mindedness and how places don't make people.... The whole thing was a very bizzare experience and left me feeling puzzled and slightly ashamed, though I was only ever polite to the person I interacted with.

  26. I started a thread on this forum in early October about the weight of bass guitars and why the manufacturers or dealers don't specify the weights of the instruments. I've just changed my bass for a lighter model because I have back trouble and even my 9lb Chowny was too much for me after a short while. My new Italia Cavo (semi-hollow) bass is around 7lb and sounds good with flat wound strings. It also is much kinder to my 68 year old spine than the Chowny. I loved the Chowny but my back didn't appreciate its mass.

  35. It happened again. I reported in How Was Your Gig Last Night getting abuse from audience members for being too loud at the Tap Social in Oxford. I put this down to the big hollow box of a stage creating unwanted boominess. Then I ended up doing my last gig with volume and gain at 1 & 1 after being repeatedly ask to wind it back in soundcheck. This was a pretty sizeable venue and all hard surfaces, no boom box stage to blame. The rig producing these awesome trouser flapping, belly wobbling extremes? Orange Terror 1k and two Markbass 1 X 15. Just a devestatingly efficient combination. The Bruce Thomas Sig helps of course. My goodness that's one powerful instrument.

  36. For those who like to roll their own, here's a layout for the crossover. Read together with the circuit diagram I posted earlier. I think that building a crossover might have been a step too far for a lot of people last time. So.....this time, I'm prepared to build and test a quantity of crossovers to get the ball rolling. All you'll have to do is screw the board down inside the cab and connect the wires. The six connections you can see on the bottom of the board are screw connectors for the wires. I'll precut the wires to size and crimp the connectors so that you won't have to solder anything. I'll even include a Speakon. As long as you cover the cost of the components, I'm happy. I'll do this for the first ten. Then you're on your own. If the flat packs work out, I'll be using a local CNC company. So I'll be able to collect and send a flat pack and a finished crossover out together to those wishing to build them, which will save on carriage. Building a crossover on a plywood board is a bit of a time consuming exercise. So if we have anyone out there who can produce fibreglass PCBs in small quantities (milled would be OK), please make yourself known.

  37. I've said this before, but I think it bears repeating. I paid just over £2k for my Helix and RCF745. My previous big bass rig which was mostly bought second hand over 10 years ago cost me more, and while it looks impressive on stage the Helix RCF combination is far more versatile. One thing did occur to me recently; a lot of the gigs I play are supports to well-established goth/post punk bands where the headliner will have brought an Ampeg stack or similar. I set up my RCF in wedge mode just in front, and still looks as though I'm using a big impressive bass rig while sounding infinitely better!

  38. I have a contact on an audio website who does produce hifi speaker flatpack kits, I could ask him. However, i suspect it won't be cheap. I suspect the best way to approach it would be to ask for a batch of kits to be made up. That means someone needs to stump up a load of ££££ up front. Without enquiring, I would suspect we would be talking a couple of hundred quid for the setup and cutting time etc. Then there's the material costs. Also remember that most CNC cutting means waste, so we'd need to be sure that you can still get two kits out of one panel, otherwise the costs go up... Half way house would be just having the panels supplied cut to size, though that would require people to cut the baffle and handle holes etc. If someone was so inclined, they could make router templates to create the the relevant cuts, but they would then need to get involved in producing the kits and shipping them out etc. Depends how far down the line people want these flatpacks to be. Unless you can just throw a sheet of ply onto a CNC machine, then it starts getting very time consuming and therefore expensive. I think the other thing to emphasise is that unless the flatpack is cut with rebates etc to help panel location, then anyone assembling them will still need a range of tools etc - it's still not going to be a half hour "lego" assembly job. Final thought for the morning (and no disrespect to those expressing an interest), I suspect that the actual number of people who put the money down for a kit will be fewer.... and therefore the costs get higher per kit. I am in the midst of moving house (hopefully!!) so can't get involved in flat packs at the moment. However, once moved, I would POTENTIALLY consider the half way house thing, where I get a load of sheets of ply cut as per the cutlist at Avon plywood and then route the baffle holes, top handle rebate and rear panel speakon holes, so that all the tricky stuff is done (though the whacky brace shapes might be another thing to consider).

  40. Only have great memories of this place. Would turn up most Saturdays in the mid eighties and work my way through (really nice) Warwicks, Statii, Jaydees, Wals, Alembics, Pedullas, the odd Steinberger and a brace of Zons for a few hours through a Trace stack, then head home to continue my A Level revision. Staff were never less than accommodating to a youth who clearly could only afford a pack of strings, especially the fellow with the massive mullet. LOVED that place.

  44. The Q5 is a budget model, but decent for what it is. I don't particularly like the tone of mine, or the string spacing but I think that's more my problem than one with the bass. Does anyone want to buy a Spector?
