Hello friends For sale (I’m open to trades too) a rare, amazing (really) and all original bass, bought few months ago. Was professional refretted two months ago with original Warwick bell brass frets => very low action, VERY easy to play. Why I want to sell it? Shortly, the main reason is a financial one. I have a credit to the bank and I received a very attractive offer from them. So, unfortunately or not, my small bass collection must be diminished. The second reason is my painful back, so this bass must go first. It weighs about 5,3 Kg on my bathroom scale. Some specs: - flame maple body, oil/wax finish - flame maple / bubinga NT neck (with volute 😎), oil/wax finish - wenge fretboard - Warwick “Made in West Germany” machine heads - brass bridge - 20 mm string spacing - brass just-a-nut 1 (if I am right, 1998 was the last year when they put this kind of nut on basses) - Dunlop Straplock Flush Mount - Basslines (Seymour Duncan) pickups - MEC preamp (3 eq, 18 V) - new jack plug - equipped with an almost new Nickel Elixir set (32, 45-105, 130) It has few dings, but nothing “dangerous” and no one on the back of the neck. For an almost 21 years bass (October 1998), is very clean. It comes in a non-original hardcase. The price is 1750€ 1700€ (only in Euro, please), shipping in UE countries included. Detailed pictures on request.5 points

Any room to parts your own bass together? You’ll defo get exactly what you want then, and if patient can get a mix of second hand and new to give you what you need. I had no prior experience but managed to cobble a couple together that are just right for me. The natural finish one needed me to mend a crack and strip and oil it. Incredible fun. White Bass - USA Fender string through body, status neck, Hipshot Ultralites, Fender HMV bridge, Seymour Duncan APB-1 pick up. Natural Bass - Alder body (I think), cherry neck and Birdseye maple board, ESP bridge, Creamery ‘58 pick ups and Tonestyler pot. Plus a massive bundle of change to spare from your budget even including buying some tools.5 points

Hello friends I bought this bass a week ago. Enough to realize that is an amazing bass, very confortable, with a great sound. Why I want to sell it? Shortly, the reason is a financial one. The original preamp included - equipped with Elixir strings - 4,5 Kg aprox. It comes in a non-original hardcase. The price is 2050€ (only in Euro, please), shipping in UE countries included. Sorry, no trades.4 points

Speaking of cool dark...the black sheep of the Krow Yammy family has arrived I had originally thought I might also get the BB735A refinished in white (and even got a couple of quotes for getting it done). But I'm much less sure about doing that now!4 points

A piece of bass history. Battered and bruised but thumping great p-bass sound. Bridge could do with dipping in vinegar for a day or two as it has tarnished over the years and that washer round the input can't be original. Couple of holes where strap locks were once relocated, easily filled. However it is a genuine Matsumoko product and we know how good they are. Appears to be about 4kg.3 points

Here's one of Tim's cab covers from speaker.graphics, which I recently had made. Got it installed late last week and had it out for the weekend's gigs. Very handy for getting the band name seen in places where it's awkward or impractical to put up the backdrop. Commented on favourably by all and sundry, too. The design incorporates the 4x10 speakers, so it's all printed on the vinyl mesh (i.e. those aren't the real speakers you can see, just a picture of them). Installation was pretty straightforward with a bit of double sided tape, and the grille screws, which on the MB cab have flat heads. A little bit of non-flatness around the screws, which it would be very hard to avoid. Otherwise, thoroughly recommended for £35 all in. I'll send Tim some pics once we get into a venue where I can get better ones. :)3 points

Chris Squire too, and Chris is my favourite bassist. I was a huge fan of the Beatles as a kid and I believe that subliminally influenced the way I played when I started playing bass. Stuff like Penny Lane would be my default setting for bass playing in a song. And if 'Something' is showing off, then count me a show off. Counter-melodies are where it's at for me.3 points

The discussion is about why a BMW seems to be priced far more in the UK than in another country. It's nice to get a bit of rationale behind why, even if we don't agree with it. By the way, if you click the cross at the top-right of your browser, it'll close the window so you don't have to tolerate it any more.3 points

You may be governed by the Consumer Rights Act 2015 providers of services have to do so with 'reasonable' care. There is an inconsistency in their answer to you. The tracking is done by scanning the bar codes as we all know. Telling you it has been delivered means it was scanned by the final delivery scanner. It can't have been down the wrong chute and delivered, one of those stories is incorrect, possibly both. Either their technology doesn't work or they are being dishonest or their tracking is compromised. Putting things down the wrong chute with no system in place to recover it doesn't seem reasonable to me, or saying it is delivered when it wasn't. You could try making a claim through the small claims court, under the act they have to show they took reasonable care, the burden of proof is on them not you. Worth googling to see if you could try that?3 points

FWIW, some pix and descriptions here of Dale's rig at a club gig in 2016. Outboard reverb into two original Showman amps into a 2x15 and a 1x15 loaded with JBL's Ferocious.3 points

I discovered the feedback switch today. I’m not entirely sure what it does but on the left position it sounds incredible with my JB. It seems to calm everything down and knock a lot of the treble off also. Perfect ! im more than happy with it. It doesn’t do super loud and clean, but it’s certainly loud enough for what I do. Finally, an amp I’m happy with. Gosh !3 points

Dear Mr / Mrs Myspace, I would like to apply for the senior position of IT Manager that has just become available. I am fully versed in the latest Spectrum and Commodore computing systems and have built my own Olivetti PC from parts. I believe that along with these skills and experience I have a novel concept to offer in the minimisation of business risk. I have named this philosophy and practical execution "Backup 101" and know that once I have explained the concept to you it will be embraced by yourselves with the possibility of selling it to other computer users. Best regards, Ivor Bacupavyoo3 points

I’ve been after a nice SB1 for a while but couldn’t find any UK ones in my price range and I prefer the older models which narrowed down the search somewhat. Anyway I’ve just bought what looks like a nice one but it’s coming from the states so who knows when/if it’ll arrive... OK it’s a bit knackered but should clean up nicely. It’s all original (1991) and supposedly nicely set up but we’ll see. Strung with flats it should be the perfect opposite to my Smith. I used to use TI flats as I liked the low tension. Is there anything else worth trying? I’ll let you know when it’s here anyway! Edit - it's here!! ped2 points

Enfield Lionheart Standard 5 (2015 Model) - £1,300 Fantastic 5 string bass with a huge variety of tones available, thanks to the powerful Sims Super Quad pickups. I have owned this bass from new (Brought directly from Sims Custom Shop) and it has served me very well over that time as a full time working instrument. Thanks to the pickups I have only ever needed to take one bass to a gig and it has had me covered for everything from Prog Rock to Jazz. Also with the pickup blend I have achieved many of the signature bass sounds I needed (P Bass, Music man, etc..) It is a really light weight instrument thanks to its cleverly hollowed out construction but still retains a thick full sound. The neck is a vintage slim B profile with a nice low action and has an even balanced volume across all strings. The Bass does show signs of wear and discoloration due to its matte finish but does not affect the tone or playability in any way. Pics show any damage to the finish including a crack by the neck joint which I have had checked and it is definitely the finish on the bass and not the wood so nothing to worry about. Any marks are on the back / sides of the instrument so not noticeable from the front. Bass is freshly set up with a new set of D’adario NYXL (45 – 130) bass strings and also comes with a custom fitted Hiscock hard case and case candy made for this bass. Only reason I am moving this instrument on is that it is no longer being used and it is a shame to see such a good instrument sit in its case. I am looking for £1,300 but am open to reasonable offers & UK Sales Only.2 points

@lee650 and I are proud to announce the arrival of our BB twins (by adoption date) and Lee's rapid ascension to half-Trav (and potential simultaneous renunciation of anything made by Fender) and my much more lethargic middle-aged-spread journey to full-Trav status. It should, however, be known that full Trav is still considered a tad usurper. Advanced grade = hookystringbass or (hush now) even a hypercarrot as the ultimate destination for a true BB believer. Normal service may now resume.2 points

That’s true. Well I found you a white and maple one https://reverb.com/item/20618800-g-l-sb-1-1987-pearl-white (can be had much cheaper) Honestly I prefer them to Fender Ps - I’ve only played a couple of older ones but they seem more consistent and with excellent pickups, tilt neck, aluminium scratch plate and nicer bridge etc2 points

Slightly sneaking in under the 25 years, i love Metallica S&M, the orchestra just adds an epicness. I know lots of 'fans' hate it, but they probably also downloaded it off Napster so can bum off. I watch a lot of live stuff on youtube now - Muse live at 2018 Rock in Rio is pretty awesome... See also St Vincent - still super slick but i like there being extra band members and dressing up. What's the point of being in a band if you don't get to dress up?!2 points

2014, hard to believe it's nearly five years ago. It was amazing and a top three all-time gig. JG's Takamine TB-10 from the show is still well-looked after I'm sure everyone will be relieved to hear.2 points

Your question is exactly the right one. The 1$: 1£ conversion rate has long been accepted as the ballpark conversion rate to take account of shipping, customs and 20% VAT i.e. US made gear will cost approx 30% more in the UK. We can live with that, it's just a fact of life. But there is a level of profiteering going on here at the expense of Mesa's otherwise loyal European user base, which we are all finding more than a little like having one finger stuck up at us by the suppliers. And it's getting an understandable two fingered reaction from us as consumers. I'll be voting with my wallet.2 points

You want a great Precision bass? Put in the leg-work. Try every bass in xxxx (choose your shop/s) and if you don't find the one you want then wait. More will be along later and you can try all of those. When you've found the "one" it will be all the sweeter because you made the effort to find it.2 points

This, If using my own car (VW Polo or Tiggy) on a gig I use gig bags and wedge them behind the front and back seats. I only use the hard cases when we all use the gig van.2 points

Putting your own together is really simple and you can build the P bass of your dreams for less than half your budget. There are about 40 screws and bolts to do up, plus a tiny bit of soldering (or buy a ready made wiring harness). Easily less than a days work, including set-up/tweaking.2 points

I say he deserves it. So full of himself with all that plumage. in your Face, peacock!2 points

I think buying a different case would be cheaper than changing your car! In all seriousness, there aren’t too many car boots that you can fit a bass hard case in without putting the backseats down, unless it’s a shaped case. I have hard cases for all my basses but I always use gig bags when out and about as they’re far easier to handle.2 points

Best concert/gig/performance I've ever seen in 44 years of going to gigs was KB's Before The Dawn show in August 2016.. It had everything - incredible songs, musicians, vocals, stage sets, choreography.. It was as close to artistic perfection as I think it's possible to get. And KB herself was the strangest mix of down to earth 'girl next door' and charismatic diva all at the same time. Just brilliant! What she created was performance art of the highest standard and it was all on her own terms; no record label or product driving it - just the desire to tell her own story.. And for me, it was on another level of creativity altogether, better than most of my other favourite artists shows that I've seen over the years, including Queen, Bowie, Sinatra, Prince etc.. I love Joni Mitchell too, but to try and compare her and KB is pointless really - their musical DNA comes from quite different sources IMHO. We're just lucky that they've both created unique and beautiful bodies of work. Oh, and at the KB show, John Giblin with Omar Hakim on drums were absolutely unbelievable as a rhythm section.. 😊2 points

This is my main gigging bass with the pub rock covers band I play in. It's actually an American Std P bass from 2015 iirc. Black/Black/Rosewood as you can see and looks pretty 70s to my eyes. Approx 50% of your budget and nicely built. Not an expert on 70s/80s Fenders by any means but the Am Stds are nicely bult basses. Sounds great too2 points

Are we actually discussing the possibility of McCartney being overrated? I can understand Beatles may not be your cup of tea, but really? For me he is one of the best bass player ever existed. Immensely creating, bass lines that could stand alone and be appreciated as a whole song, but still perfectly fitting and functional in each song. For me he was simply perfection.2 points

And a-bluddy-men to that. Seems to me hyper technique is the holy grail for these bedroom bass thrappers never mind knowing how to put together memorable tunes. The opening bass notes of Ball of Confusion has more impact than 10 minutes of 180bpm cross- handed slap tap-athons from some berk on his £5k Pedulla. They need reminding of the fact other than other similarly minded plankspankers, no one else cares!2 points

Yes, but PM wrote his lines while I'm guessing the others, mostly sessioners, played what the composers wanted. I agree there are players with better command of advanced techniques but I've seen a lot of bass virtuosity and generally I'm left thinking, 'so what'. I'm generally not interested in bass players but in bass lines so that's where I'm coming from2 points
