The tiny basses built by @Jabba_the_gut do put one into a terrible quandary, they are items of such beauty that once you are actually holding one you simply don’t want to give it back. This is a pic from the BFSW Bash and let me assure you I’m considering the distance to the exit, how many people I’ll have to knock out on the way and whether of not I can vault over two rows of collapsible tables after eating that many roast potatoes and falafel. I regret having seconds.9 points

Just play the bassline from Sweet Home Alabama ... nobody will notice.6 points

Quick update from me - the case arrived at about 4pm today, approx 30 mins before the wife arrived home. Ample time to un-box, cut up said box and scatter around the town in various bins and tuck case inconspicuously in the office!5 points

Handy that you both take the same size and that she was prepared to part with them.... 😁5 points

Hi guys Today we started using a better and faster search engine for Basschat. Elasticsearch allows much faster searching, more accurate results and works for shorter search terms which it didn't before. It'll also make the site faster when browsing. We hope you find it more useful. Now go and use it to find your next bass, or to argue with someone about something Cheers ped4 points

Some new basses (very limited) on offer - the Stingray 5HH (with 9 volt electronics) looks particularly wonderful. https://www.music-man.com/bfr/april-2019?utm_source=email&utm_campaign=april_bfr4 points

Whilst it has been a slight inconvenience, it has given me a prompt to find a fresh moose for my own avatar. Let the blasting recommence!4 points

You can get away with a lot of simplification when playing live. Obviously there are occasionally iconic bass riffs that people would recognise if you played differently (like Another One Bites The Dust or The Chain) but generally if you simplify a bass line, the only people who will notice will be other bass players, and most of them will appreciate that you did it for a reason. On the off chance that someone comes up to you afterwards and says "I noticed that you played the bass line wrong..." then just smile and say "yeah, I know. Crowd still seemed to enjoy themselves though, didn't they." S.P.4 points

[Price reduced to £3500 and open to offers] Hi After some careful deliberation i have decided to sell my lovely Mk1 (lined fretless). I purchased this secondhand circa 1995 and it was my primary guitar for several years - gigging and in and out of the studio. But, as I've gotten older (and kids have come along) it is been used less and less and deserves to go to someone who will give it the love and attention it deserves. I am new to this forum so not sure of all the etiquette around selling, but I live in North London and would be happy to entertain visits if someone lived locally and wanted to try it out. (I have a SWR Redhead from back in the day) As expected, it has a mahogany core but with elm facings. There are a few scuffs on the body, although the lacquer along the neck is intact. Two screws are missing from the back plate. (It was last set up about 18 months ago, so the strings are equally as old, but i have hardly had it out the case in that time.) Hard case included in the sale, but it is not the original one. When sold i would prefer it collected rather than shipped, but can negotiate that as necessary.2 points

Hey Guys, I'm Lloyd, i am 28 and from Pompey. I have been playing on and off since I was 13. I have a Fender MIM 50's road-worn precision in Sunburst + recently picked up a crafted in Japan Fender Mustang so I can twinkle around with a shorter scale. I usually play more indie rock kinda stuff but recently have gotten into playing more motown and classics to improve my playing and way of thinking. I am currently looking around for a Jazz bass but nothing special so if anyone has some suggestions that won't break the bank please let us know (also doesn't have to be Fender either) - I have recently been looking at SX Jazz Bass's (vintage series) as have read a lot that they are a bit better than a Squier, so wondering if people had any more info on those! (i am a big fan of the band Khruangbin and Laura Lee uses one which had me intrigued) Cheers guys 😁2 points

I'd say wireless was a no-no. They're mostly only designed for music playback so low latency isn't a priority, opting to build in a buffer to help prevent any signal dropouts, which results in a delay between what you play and what you hear!2 points

Hey folks, Just chiming in here. Thank you for the tag! Andy has pretty much answered everything you need to know! I did indeed do two JD tribute basses and my latest Fender is a nod to JD as well. My first, which I foolishly sold was a "Wembley 86 era" tribute which started life as a CIJ (non-export model) PB70-US. I actually had a special order with Fender Japan as they stopped making the all black version at the time. I would highly recommend this instrument to cover the '68 Fender JD had as it is a very close version - but also it has the 40mm nut width which would suit your request in the OP. My second tribute bass also featured a PB70-US neck, but I had Jon Shuker mate it with a stunning piece of timber for the body. This version went with the tortie pickguard and I alter sold it on BC as I knew I had a huge pang for the real thing! Pictures below: My JD tribute, but in this image it has a black guard and Billy Sheehan P pickup. Picture two is a snapshot from Wembley 86. You will see, with reference to the discussion about bridges, that after the refurb, JD had a Schaller 3D (2000??) bridge added. Not necessary if you are going with the natural look. and speaking of natural, picture 3 is my near-UPS-disaster and utterly gorgeous '76 precision bass. (I would have saved up for a 68 and found a couple I liked, but this one is my birth year) I LOVE it!!! Sounds amazing!2 points

I'm hoping he's going to get a tobacco burst Stingray with a white pickguard just for another one bites the dust, be rude not to add it into the set?2 points

Just spotted this. New and old bass day. The Lakland neck just feels tiny. You may have noticed its missing some knobs. Bought it like that and in the post. And there is no way I'm paying £200 for a scratch plate. Think I have a black Jazz plate somewhere.2 points

If like me you've seen Showaddywaddy ripping it up at The Wyvern in Swindon circa 2016, you soon realise what a bit player Elvis Presley actually was!2 points

It's you playing a cover. So you don't have to copy every note. How would you remember every note anyway! You only have to get the feel and essence of the song but, unless it's a riff, you don't have to play every note in the exact place. In this song the verse has an octave feel. Get that right and do what Flea does. . . put your own fills in between.2 points

Well my avatar was uploaded to BC from my hard disk, as it's the result of my mighty fine Photoshop skills in creating an image of a bluejay playing a lefty Warwick Corvette. I never saw the short period of down time, as I only logged on to BC hours later. So I don't think I was logged in when the great slaughter happened. 🤔2 points

Another great day! I don't want to repeat what others have said already numerous times, but thank you so much for a great event! Yes, it can get loud. Yes, one can barely hear himself. No, I didn't get the time to try half the gear I planned. No, I didn't had the chance to meet everyone. But, boy the food... The noise (in a good way now - am I crazy? 🤪)... The chatting... The meeting the ones I met... The lovely basses all around the room! Can't wait for next years!!!! PS: my Greenboy F112 is effectively now for sale! Maybe I'll get a Basschat 12", which is a monstrous cab!2 points

...or we could all use the same one, y'know, just to simplify things! I'm thinking something like this...2 points

Look what rattled through my letterbox this morning. A limelight replica Fender Precision 1963 in Sonic Blue. 😊 Here are the specs: Faded Sonic Blue Hand rolled finger board Clay dots Light relic Rosewood P width neck Mint Green scratchplate Period correct 1960’s Fender Precision logo Thumb rest below strings. All metal work just lightly tarnished Reverse Gotoh Tuners Strap button on reverse of headstock Roundwound strings When Mark first sent me the finished pictures I was a bit disappointed that the scratchplate seemed more white than a faded-to-green colour. However, This was just a result of the camera flash probably. It looks amazing. I dont know what strings he put on. They look like Rotos but I dont like them so they will be coming off and replaced with D'Addarios. Seems to be quite well set up out of the box so theres a nice surprise.2 points
