  3. Just arrived this weekend after a year long wait since ordering..... a fantastic flipflop blue/purple Dingwall Dbird Standard! Loving it.... particularly the sound with all 3 pickups on! Solid lows, glassy highs and piano-tone tight mids.... mmmm.... Thanks to Mark at Bass Direct for sorting this for me 🙂

  4. For Sale, a Godin A4 Fretless. I bought it a couple of years ago and although I like playing fretless I can't get on with the lines, despite what Scott D says. They confuse me. It's only been used to play a couple of songs in a charity event so has had minimal playing whilst in my possession. I bought it as a bass that would sound like an upright and it hasn't disappointed on sound. It is a pleasant bass to play and I would be keeping it if it didn't have the lines. I have enquired after a new neck or replacing the fingerboard but this would be too costly. It is about 20 years old I believe and is not like the current models with the XLR midi output and the pickup along the top of the E-String. It weighs 8.3lbs. It comes with the original case which has a few scuffs. Stan the dog is not included. It is currently wearing Rotosound flats. it has a couple of discolourations on the body which I have shown in the pictures. I'm open to delivery if you pay for the fuel (within reason) or could ship at your expense. No trades as I will have to sell another one. You know the score

  6. Someone's been shopping the last few days............................................. Allparts Replacement neck for Tele-Bass - sold maple - no finish Lindy Fralin '51 P Bass, Split Single Coil Stellertone, Tonestyler Bass Ten Hipshot Ultralite Y Tuners, Shiny Chrome, 1/2" / 13mm Hipshot B-Style Bridge, Aluminium, Chrome, 19mm spacing – FM2 American Deluxe String Thru Hipshot String Ferrules, Chrome Hipshot String Tree, Chrome Allparts Tele-Bass Control Cover, Chrome Allparts Tele Jack Plate, Chrome Allparts Neck Bushings, Chrome Fender Neck Screws, Chrome Schaller Classic Strap Locks, Chrome Sonik Domed Control Knobs, Chrome Tru-Oil 220 Grit Sandpaper Copper Sheilding Tape 0000 Steel Wool Only really leaves the Guitar Build body to purchase......and a pickguard......possibly......if I decide one is going to actually go on it......but I'll leave that until much later in the day to decide once I see it nearing completion...... Body-wise, I reckon I'm now going for the 2-piece Walnut body, which although (at least based on the stock bodies for sale on the Guitar Build website) appears to come in approx. 0.5Kg heavier than the single piece Swamp Ash, I have a preference for a darker body to contrast with the maple neck......oh, which I've also since decided I'm also not now planning on going for the vintage tint......again, purely for contrast reasons......

  9. I was getting that for quite a while, I feel for you. I've had similar at various points in time, mainly while working in an environment full of bullying type behaviours and also being in a relationship that was falling apart. More recently with a happy home life I've had sleepless nights after band, I had a lot of work stress at the time, mainly through being frustrated with my job, undervalued, looking for a new job. But I did these band related things and they seemed to work: Stopped having alcohol or sugary drinks and snacks at rehearsal, just water. Also reduces the amount of times I get up to pee before falling asleep! Using ear plugs - I seriously think this helped me sleep after band as well as protecting my hearing; Rehearse in the bigger room with good PA, it cost more but I wasn't pressed up against a PA speaker at high volumes getting severe headache from the crappy sound quality and volume and the rehearsal is all the better too; Listening to "talk" radio on the way home instead of music; Leave rehearsal happy. Even if the drummer is annoying you, the guitarist pulls out of next week's gig, whatever, sort stuff out to a compromise, have a chat and a joke before heading home. Less to play on the mind; I don't leave kit in my car no matter how late or knackered I am. Then I'm not hearing the slightest noise outside and checking to see if someone is breaking in to my car; Don't do anything that pisses off your other half when you get home... My wife is in bed when I get back and she hates it if I turn on the landing light. So I leave my PJs in the bathroom and use the torch on my phone to get upstairs. And I close the door quietly! That worked for me. Can't stop my calf muscles twitching from my dodgy "dancing" though but I manage to sleep through that!

  10. Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio and others have useful Bass Middle Treble charts showing the characteristics of their various models so it’s at least a ball park idea of what to expect but there is always a ‘risk’ until you’ve actually installed and heard for yourself. The BC market place is as a good a place as any to try something out and shift them on if they’re not to taste. If everything else about a bass works except the electronics then it’s a pretty good idea to experiment with pick ups. Often just putting in a solid passive set can be the answer.

  11. I’m hoping I can get to the bash with some examples of my 1x12 Neo cabs. I will bring pairs so (sound levels permitting) anyone can check out the full potential of small cabs. I’ll demo using my Cort GB74 as this is my workhorse. I also have an Anaconda Ultra J4 Elite which I hope to sell. I’m going to show how the side vents on my cabs really are effective and might add real information to a thread that was started on basschat some while ago. Hope to see you there. 12. Many of you wil have followed the Basschat 1x12 Cabinet threads over the last few years with sterling work from Phil Starr and Stevie. The latest version has been compared favourably with boutique cabs such as Fearless. The MK2 cabinet design is just about complete and with the availability of a flat packed cabinet kit, has attracted a lot of attention. The cabinet has a Full Range Flat Response but many people like the idea of an active FRFR with the amplifier built in. This thread will follow the development of the active version. Initially we will add pre-amp and power amp to the exiting passive design. Unlike FRFR PA speakers the circuitry, the inputs will be limited to those needed by us bass players. Maybe, if there is interest, a fully active system will be considered. The current spec is: The current thought is for the following facilities. Balanced line input, XLR with sensitivity of 0dBm(0.775V). Balanced line output for DI or to feed a second cabinet. Jack input instrument level/high impedance.* Speakon output to passive cab. Fixed HPF tuned to the driver/cabinet combination. Actual Frequency and filter order TBC. (Added 4/05/19) Volume control. ICEPower 125ASX2** or 700AS1 power module. (Added 4/05/19) **The 125ASX2 wil output over 280W into this cabinet at 1% THD+N more than enough to power this and one other BC1x12 and is easier to obtain. However the 700AS1 is an even better module but much harder to get. (Added 4/05/19) Apart from the mechanical differences the electrical interface is almost the same.. I do not intend to put any EQ on the unit as that would be a combo.

  13. I bought this new from Bassgear in Feb 2017 so it is just over two years old. The first thing I did when it arrived was take the front panel off and measure the driver because I couldn't believe that a 1x15 could be so small and assumed that I had been sent a 1x12!! This thing is really compact - It measures 52cm wide x 24cm high x 44cm deep, that's just over 20" x 18" x 17" in old money and weighs a very manageable 14kg. The recessed handle is on the top which makes it dead easy to carry. This cab is the latest version but with a couple of optional extras. The front is what is known as V-Frame in appearance which gives it a very classy look, it has an adjustable tweeter, and comes with the branded padded cover. 450watts. 8ohms. I have gigged this cab precisely 4 times, twice with PA support and twice without. Other than that it has left the house once every three to four weeks for a band get together. Condition is 9.8/10. If it wasn't for the fact that I was lured by another TKS variation that was close enough to collect, this would be going nowhere. I have used it with an Aguilar TH500 and AG700 with great success. These cabs have serious attack and authority and you don't have to stand away from them in order to hear yourself. Rear ported btw. Here is the link to TKS blurb and a couple of pics. The amp is not included. New price would be £715, I am asking a little over 50% of that and would be happy for collection or meet within 30 miles of J23 M5 or could p&p for a contribution. https://www.tks.se

  17. I've suffered with this for as long as I can remember and I am 48. Regardless of being in a band or not, as soon as my head hits the pillow, my mind goes into irrational thoughts and starts processing ideas, thoughts and total nonsense. I can be literally falling asleep in front of the TV or hardly able to keep my eyes open but as soon as my head hits that pillow, my mind switches on. It got so bad that when I went on tour, I would take a bottle of whiskey with me and have a glass before bed to make me sleepy but after a while the glass got bigger and bigger until I was pouring it into pint glasses. At that point I realised it was no longer having any effect. For me sometimes, it's like the day is not long enough so I'm just not tired when it's late. I also tend to become wide awake at around 9pm. I can be sleepy all day but as soon as the evening comes then I wake up and I'm raring to go at 9pm. I put this down to 30 years of gigging so getting up late morning and then gigging in the evening and going to bed in the early hours. I think one of the big factors for me is the change in body clock. I seem very sensitive to any changes in this, even an hour can have a huge impact. I always try and avoid anything too heavy at work on a Monday as chances are I'll have a late night on Friday/Saturday and get up later than a work day on the Sunday. So when I go to bed on Sunday I'm never tired and never sleep much. Sometimes I'll even set an alarm clock on Sunday an hour later than a normal work day just to try and kick start my body clock. I'll be tired all day in the hope I will fall asleep quickly Sunday night but it doesn't always work. I also find that I feel worse and suffer the most with sleep when the clocks change for winter. When they change for spring it's literally like flicking a switch and I feel so much better. More energy, less lethargic, less sleepy and more positive. One thing I try and do during the week is be in bed before midnight. I try and aim for 11pm. Physiologically I'm told that going to before before midnight is telling youself this is the end of the day and if you go past midnight, it can muck you body clock up as you are into the next day. So I don't know what the answer is but I have always suffered with this. I like the idea of not turning lights on before bed as this can re-stimulate you. I'm guilty of doing this so I will give this a try. Oh, and something I read about last week is to not eat a large meal at night, especially carbs as this will release energy slowly when you should be try to sleep. You're better of eating a larger meal at lunch and smaller in the evening.

  23. Behaviourists pretty much believe that's how we form habits etc. So don't feel bad about that, it's quite natural as an immediate response. A planned change of routine, as in my first post, can help change those anxieties and expectations. Adding in some helpful thoughts to challenge the unhelpful ones would be useful. Like you pretty much said, the mind can exaggerate things irrationally in the early hours, totally blowing them out of perspective, so tools to address that are very helpful. Mindfulness is good to alleviate this for example.

  26. Got the day ticket from Mrs Skinny so I’ll see you all there. I’m trying to decide whether to bring anything to The Bash other than myself..... I could bring the Dingwall Super P that I currently have up for sale? Or a Rickenbacker to annoy Teebs. Or the little Gretsch which will fit in the car easier. A Barefaced One10 if anyone is interested in just how much noise something so small can make (those with a child under five will already know the volume that tiny things can make but for the rest of us...) And a Genzler Magellan 800 just to make sure I can keep up with the neighbours.... Oh, and a PAT tested extension lead (good call, Andy) .

  28. Interestingly we tried out this cab in the shootout at the South West bass bash. It was the one that polarised opinion. For half the people there it was the best cab, and it was up against some pretty great opposition. Most of the rest voted it bottom. Louder than the rest and loads of warm woolly bass. I don't think this is about being a 12, it's about the damping of the cone by the magnet and cab. All the other cabs had more expensive 12's with really powerful magnets on them and the bass was much better damped. All that warm bass can sound lovely in the right room but is going to excite room resonances in a lot of venues, as you found. An HPF will remove some of the frequencies you don't want. In the end though if you were happy with your sound then going back to it is the right thing to do.

  32. Just toying with a few ideas at the moment, but I have trimmed a piece of ash I had which wasn't quite big enough for a standard body but suits this. I used a piece of the same wood to make a solid body bass and it finished really nicely; very plain and simple but that was the beauty of it. Looking at a couple of ideas from a one piece bridge to another set up with individual string anchors. (not planning on this one being five string - was just using the bridge to see how it looked). I'm now thinking of using the set of Sperzel tuners on this as they are a little more compact. I'm going to see if I can get these with rounded buttons as that would suit the design a little better.

  33. Progress has been much slower than I hoped on this. Deciding to put my house on the market and all the stuff that goes with that has somewhat delayed this. I am hoping though to find a house with a double garage meaning more workspace but these things take time..... Anyway, I have progressed with the neck. Truss rod channel routed: The fretboard has been slotted (correct dimensions this time) and glued to the neck. This has then been cut on my band saw and tidied up using the router to give the final shape. I have a log made from ebony that matches the fretboard which I think contrasts nicely. The neck is birds eye maple and if it finishes anywhere as nicely as the last one I made, should look really nice.

  34. Is the FRFR version going to be a standard rectangular cab design or will it be configured to use a wedge as well like most commercial FRFRs? Also what do you consider to be inputs needed by bass players? Unbalanced Jack? Balanced XLR? Both?

  38. BAREFACED Super 12t in superb condition and Roqsolid cover with board protector. Time to move this fantastic cab on as I’m not using it anymore and it’s too good to just leave sitting around. Great sounding all - in - 1 cab solution. Light in weight, but not in tone and volume! No concerns or problems whatsoever. 4ohm. 30” H x 19.5” W x 13.5” D 19Kg. Roqsolid cover with board protector fitted. Small tear on one of the side handle openings as can be seen. Prefer pick up, but could meet within reasonable distance for petrol. Might courier, but not got any packaging at the moment and I’m away middle to end of next month, so it would probably not be sorted until back at beginning of June. Pm me if that’s what you need and we can discuss. Thanks. Apologies for the photos!
