So basically, "give us your Streamer, and in return I'll etch a permanent reminder that I've pretty much mugged you onto your skin"?5 points

I've long looked at Sandbergs and thought I should try one and see for myself if all the love for them is justified....and I concur. Just given a new home to a 20th Anniversary Edition Ken Taylor Basic 4 and it's fab. Lovely neck, great slabs of tone from the pick ups with very usable EQ. It will be my only bass for the foreseeable future, I couldn't be happier and I'm pleased to be in the 'berg Club.😎 Here's a pic.4 points

This just came up on my FB page. Absolutely gorgeous. Had to share with you all.4 points

Not at all! 🙂 I knew posting them on here was like throwing myself into the bear-pit, rather than the comfy confines of my YouTube subscribers lol. It's actually been really grounding and constructive to read the comments. I've editied my original post to give a little more context for anyone who hasn't read it yet. Thanks again.3 points

You don't say! Been on the hunt for a Gibson Ripper for ages. 5 mins after joining the forum, I stubled upon a decent looking one and couldn't resist and contacted the seller 🤦♂️ I doubt my wife will be happy with me joining this place 🤦♂️3 points

So, the Sabre is being collected tomorrow and hopefully/finally on it's merry way to France. I have to say Parcel2Go and Guitar Guitar Birmingham have been absolutely excellent in resolving this...so far so good3 points

I have a Black Limba back and sides set on order and this week will order the top and fretboard wood The only further actual progress is cutting the rough shape for the headstock: ...bookmatch cutting some headstock and soundhole rosette plates from some remaining offcut of @scrumpymike 's mate's Mervin walnut: The rosette will be offset like the last one: And I will be putting both a headstock top plate and back plate on this one: Top: Back:3 points

Should also add that I’ve had passive basses louder than active ones and vice versa so I tend to use whichever input gives the best level regardless of the instrument ‘type’3 points

Note: the fretless has gone and seeing that I can't play a fretted neck on its own I will also sell the fretted nck. It is a beaut, I'll stick a picture at the bottom This is a 2007 Fretless Stingray 5 with Pau Ferro finger board. It is lightweight for a Stingray. Note: I have had 3 fretted SR5' in the past and all were heavier than this. It is in great condition and comes with an MM case. It plays superbly and sounds great. You can hear it without effects etc. on tracks 5, 8 and 9 here: https://eddiemole.bandcamp.com/album/butterflies-and-spiders I have had this bass for around 5 years now and it is one of my favourite ever basses but I just don't use it. Apologies for the crap pictures..it is a really special bit of kit. No trades, will sell split and sell neck-see link:2 points

OK. This is a mass produced Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass in its original form. It has however been breathed upon by our own @Andyjr1515 and is quite unique in appearance. Some of you may recognise part of it from Andy's previous avatar. Although stock in essence, it got a refinish, a modified scratch plate and a full set-up. It's a great sounding bass anyway but now it looks fascinating too. Whilst nowhere near as unique as his complete builds, it is with pride that we (Jack and I) can say that we've got something nice by that nice man at AJR Guitar Mods from the time before he got famous and started to live as a recluse in his own private lumber yard where he started rolling out wilder and weirder basses such as the Spruce Goose bass with its massive wing span.2 points

HAHA! What a great post! 😂 I'm rather taken with this bass! If you took the 'Made in Indonesia' sticker off (and painted the inside of the truss rod adjuster!) would struggle to tell you if it was MIJ or not... I still might have to get it painted white - though matte black is far more fetching than I'd anticipated - I'd never liked a black bass until today. I ended up doing a whole photoshoot with it - I really have a thing for BBs and photos. All my major photos have been with your gorgeous BBNE2, a legendary BB5000 and now this 735. I guess I have a thing for BB 5 strings - but I hope this one stays! Ready for a weekend of 3 shows in Devon and Manchester respectively (nice to be so conveniently located! 🤦♂️) and this chap will probably be with me on all of them! Gig shots and reports incoming for sure. Until then here are some snaps verifying the BB as 'The Photographers' Choice'... T2 points

My oldest daughter is named Suzie. There might be a subconscious reason for that not entirely unrelated to the subject of this thread! I was quite an admirer of Ms Quatro in my younger years.2 points

This is what someone has said to me before! You'll see from posts in my build diaries that I'm not the best at determining what can be charged for a handmade bass (I don't know what to ask for one, so I don't and I have lots of basses at home)!! I have only parted with a couple of basses.... But a lot of this is back to the old chestnut that it is worth what someone will pay for it regardless of how nice the woods, components etc. are. There are quite a few people out there that will pay £1000 - £1500 or more for a bass be it custom or off the shelf so there is a market, it is a question of finding out where you fit in. I also think that not many folk work out just how quickly the component costs can mount up when you are buying things as a one-off; just plucking figures from thin air but say £90 for a bridge, £75 for some tuners, £150 for a pair of pickups, £100 for a preamp, nut/strap buttons/knobs another £40 - that's over £450 before any wood has been bought! Even a basic body blank would easily be £60, basic neck blank £50, fretboard £40. Want a nice top and a better body wood then add another £200 say.....that's around £800 of parts. Admittedly, not everyone would want all of these but it shows how quickly costs can go up. And you haven't cut or shaped anything at this point, let alone applied a finish. It also comes down to if you are making a one-off for some one or a small batch. Someone may be willing to pay more for something that is unique to them rather than you making a bass then trying to sell it. I think people are also aware that they may spend a lot on a custom bass for them but if GAS strikes, the used value may be considerably lower. Then there is the reason you are doing this; are you wanting to make a living from it, subsidise another income or just doing for the enjoyment of building and selling to cover costs? These are the same questions I ask myself!! Not a particularly helpful response I know (sorry!) - just my thoughts. I think you just have to try and see what happens. All the best Jez2 points

@mcnach back to T-Bird - I popped a telebird together. Epi Nikki Sixx body needed repair, and had no neck, so I repaired it and added a tele neck which needed a shave and voila. its not bad!2 points

I used to rate her. But I was appalled when I found out on BC that she's anti-plectrumic.2 points

Firstly I like your playing and you can clearly 'walk the walk' - plus I like the fact that you play live with real bands and can be seen touring from time to time As regards a video format, its hard in a crowded market to stand out. But to have something meaningful to say - I feel that your best bet is to keep it about your strengths - working as a pro player and talk about this, warts and all and and possibly pad it with tips and real world experiences of doing what many others can't. Best of luck to you.2 points

It's too long. I would do them shorter, and maybe script what you're going to say?2 points

I've not toured mainland China but have played Hong Kong so maybe that's different? It was an unusual but huge gig playing at the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens. All seemed pretty normal and we were treated extrememly well.2 points

Sorry, hate to be "that guy" but imo this bass is massively overpriced! Theres one just like it on ebay for a much more realistic £899,000 and I saw one on reverb last month which had the rotational neck to switch to 1/2 string for £950,000 which is much more versatile. Glwts, you're going to need it!!2 points

...because if the forum was just everyone posting links their vlogs, blogs and youtube covers, it wouldn’t be quite as enjoyable?2 points

Was browsing and stumbled across this. Thread necromancer alert! Just picked up a Sire M7 2nd generation. I initially went to the shop to pick up some odds and ends I needed, tried out the bass on a whim, and bought it that day. I was generally in the market for a 5-string in the ~€1000-€1,500 bracket for some more extreme type of music but wasn't planning an immediate purchase. It blew me away in terms of overall quality and the store manager let me have it for €850 (which was cheaper than most online retailers). I couldn't say no to that! The store manager told me she knew that Sire had a different Korean brand and that they'd set up a US-based company to be more marketable in Europe and the Americas, so looks like it fits in with being Dame guitars as mentioned above. Getting Marcus Miller to stick his name on it as well was a pretty major coup, but I think he still uses his Fender custom model. Plenty of other artists are launching their 'own' lines of instruments these days too (Ola Englund and Tosin Abasi come to mind) so I guess MM knew a good business opportunity when he saw it. Win-win for everyone involved I guess. Dame - Sire... I'm sure that's not a coincidence In any case, it's a sexy beast and definitely a statement. They've managed to come up with a design that while looking kind of similar to some other basses, it doesn't look similar enough for it to be mistaken for something else. In today's market, that's not an easy feat.2 points

Just had another joker. Selling a BH250 on FB at 120 and happened to take pics with it standing on the RS212 so cab top is just visible. So this guy has just askedif i'll take £100 for the amp and cab . And the ad says that's the price no offers. Chancers and flakes, gypsies n thieves - I've had em all.2 points

Another stunning George Martin arrangement. When he took the master to the Bond producers apparently they went 'Great demo, imagine how the finished article is going to sound!' George and Paul had to do some persuading.2 points

@blisters on my fingers The way I look at it a new bridge for acoustic bass isn't that expensive. Now I know what I'm doing if I decide to do a 'proper' job I can. However, right now I have a usable acoustic whereas it used to have no battery holder, unplayable action, nut lose and too high and was covered in dust. Result!2 points

All these P bass pickups sound pretty good and pretty similar. You could buy a whole Harley Benton P bass for the price of a custom shop P bass pickup. The point being, there's not much difference in the sound of P bass pickups. So don't spend silly money.2 points

There are a lot of beautiful native timbers out there but they just aren't available commercially. Apple, pear, plum, damson , also quite a few garden trees such as laburnum. I used to make blowy instruments out of some of them in a former life.2 points

So would a belt sander but there's more than one way to skin a cat. Actually the belt sander would do that as well2 points

Slider caps you can adapt the covers used for miniature toggle switches - https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/toggle-switch-caps/8431985/ They need to be trimmed down in height but they can usually push onto the slider shaft. Still haven't found an easy source for the square push switch buttons though!2 points

Another noob here. As in, new to the forum. I'm old as f*ck, nearly 40 to be painfully honest. Anyway, I never really let go of the sort of music I grew up, which is mostly indie/emo/hardcore/postrock, but I'd say my taste in music is all over the place. Mostly been playing guitar the last couple decades. But my first love is the bass. For some reason my kids seem to be attracted more to my bass guitar than my other 6 string guitars, dispite having more trouble with the bigger size and thicker strings. It got me into playing bass again, big time. But it's really frustrating that my old bass is falling apart. That's what brought me here...I've been out of the loop, and I'm thinking of maybe treating myself to decent bass gear. Bass: Kawai FB2. It plays like butter, but I'll have to fix the wiring and maybe replace some switches/controls. Playing with the idea of replacing the pu's/preamp with something that gets me more oomph, cause as good as it sounds now, it's pretty much useless for heavy hardcore/metal... Amp: beat up old GK 400RB IV. Won't take more than a new pot, input, and a good clean up to get it going again. No major complaints there, though the only other real bass amp I've had experience with was an Ampeg SVT 200T. So I don't have much to compare to, but if the consensus is that there's an obvious upgrade for the Gallien-Krueger, I'd be eager to try it out. Cabinet: beat up Ampeg 410HLF. Does the job, but the one time I used the venue's backline I was blown away. A small Orange 4x10, sounded surprisingly different than my ampeg cab, in a really good way. So yeah, be prepared for some nerdy gear questions and advice about dealers/builders/etc.1 point

The bass player at the Dublin gig was sensational. Played almost nothing but roots but he played for the songs and got everything right. And he sat on his stool most of the time. He showed that less is most definitely more.1 point
