  1. Following several comments on my status update/rant, could I suggest the following be adhered to once an item is sold on BC: 1. As soon as is practicable, edit the title to include SOLD so that potential buyers do not waste their time browsing through the thread and mods know when to lock the thread - it will also save the seller having to answer pointless PMs asking if the item is sold. 2. Sold items are a valuable source of pricing information and specifications for potential sellers and buyers of similar/same items further down the line. So please do not ask for the thread to be removed and do not remove all the details. Unless you have some specific circumstances (tax liabilities, ex-partner trying to get hold of your assets etc!) this serves no purpose whatsoever. Photographs of course are a different matter as these take up your attachment storage space on BC, so its understandable if these are deleted. Thats all folks Yours faithfully, Mildly irritated of Barnes

  2. We plan on adding a prominent 'Mark as sold' button soon, as well as sending reminders to those with an active listing to update their ad if it's inactive for a while. Weirdly these options aren't included in standard functionality and require custom work to implement, like the location field which took us an age to work out how to do!

  3. Just want to say a massive thanks to you all for your input and for listening to my ramblings. Some great advice and it has been a massive help, getting me thinking about a lot of things and certainly thinking about some things that I had not considered. Where I am right now is to get through 2020 doing the gigs we have, reviewing how I feel about what I am doing musically and if I want to continue into 2021. I am suspecting not as I think a lot of you have banged the nail on the head by pointing out that a change would be a good thing, maybe even with a break but certainly a change musically would be good. It would of been 3 years and close to 250 gigs so not a bad run. I will certainly be taking up the double bass and see how that grabs me as well. I will also make the most of some time back and enjoy some track days and perhaps look at other interests, perhaps some travel. I will also look at what I want to do next musically. In fact I know what I would like to do but its an area that is totally alien to me, not that it worries me but I need to see what the possibilities are. Thanks again guys, has been a great thread and I really appreciate being able to talk to you all and for you all for listening.

  4. How about an entire genre that makes me want to vomit? Anything classified as metal in the vein of slayer, anthrax, Metallica etc. And really anything with vocals that sound like the singer has lung or throat cancer... Or stuff that requires constant use of double kick pedals.

  5. Facts are facts but “Thanks, leave voters” kind of language is designed to stir up debate and put across your own opinion on a political issue, especially after our last conversation I hoped you’d refrain from posting. I don’t run this place to debate politics and you are not going to do it here either, so take my advice and leave your political whinging for some other unfortunate website. Everyone else seems to manage.

  7. Copydex for me. You want something flexible and Copydex is latex based, effectively you are putting a rubber patch on. I layer up in stages with tissue over the tear. You need to have some sort of fibre to bridge the tear itself and it needs to be compatible with the paper in the cone as well as absorbing the glue well so paper fibre it is. I suppose you could use something like blotting paper but most of us have toilet paper to hand and you need to keep the repair as light as possible. I've done this a lot and no failures yet, some of the patches are over 10 years old. I'm not particularly clumsy, I repair other people's stuff.

  8. Yamaha BB434 - £349 Shipped Mainland UK, or based in Chorley, Lancashire for a collection, try out. Please see my feedback fro confidence of an honest, reliable transaction. Sale Only - No Trades. I'm needing to clear a few basses out and excellent as this is I'm gravitating towards active basses. A great P/J, loads of tonal options. The Yamaha Blurb is: Overview Whether you prefer a rosewood fingerboard or the distinctively bright, crisp sound of maple, the precision feel and response of the six bolt miter neck along with the presence and clarity of custom-wound pickups will inspire you to play your best when it really counts. 6-bolt Miter Neck Joint Miter bolting holds the neck closer and tighter to the body fusing these two separate components into one. Compared to a conventional bolt-on joint, miter bolting offers more efficient transfer of string vibration throughout the body, for improved sustain and outstanding resonance that brings every note to life. YGD Custom V5 Pickups Alnico magnet pickups tuned to deliver the classic BB vintage tone, slightly updated to provide a brighter sound that cuts through in live performance situations. Control The new BB models are equipped with one tone control and two volume control knobs, for versatile sound shaping. Convertible Bridge for Precise Tone Shaping: Vintage Plus Light Bridge The 400 models are equipped with a Vintage Plus Light bridge that incorporates “Diagonal Body Thru Stringing,” in which the strings are angled at the saddle and pass through the instrument to the bridge at a 45º angle, as opposed to the traditional vertical stringing method which places more stress on the strings. Diagonal Body Thru Stringing significantly reduces this stress while transferring string vibration to the body reliably and efficiently. The strings can also be attached to the tail end of the bridge. In 5-string models the bridge is equipped with an offset low B string. Five-piece Neck The new series features a 5-ply maple and mahogany laminated neck, in a bolt-on design that delivers a sharp attack, and quick response. This durable construction resists warping and twisting and adds the tight, penetrating character of maple combined with the warmth of mahogany to the instrument’s tone. New Neck Shape The New BB models feature a slightly thinner neck than previous BB basses, improving playability and feel for both modern and traditional players. Lightweight Tuners Lighter weight tuners offer a better balance and complement the overall feel, providing a perfect match for the smaller, lighter body of the new BB. 9. I spent half an hour this morning going through the first 25 pages of Basses For Sale, locking sold threads AND re-instating subject lines that had been changed to just "Sold" or "Withdrawn". Guys, we mods can do that, and will do that - usually, but clearly it hadn't been done in those instances I worked on today. But do show some consideration, not just for us mods but for your fellow Marketplace users too, and DON'T DELETE THE EFFING SUBJECT LINE in the first place. I know that some of you think that leaving the info in the post is good enough, but it isn't, as searches are quicker if they scan thread titles only. To those of you who delete the whole bloody lot, title and text, when they sell or withdraw, well, just stop it. Stop it immediately. Thank you.

  10. The double bass is definitely a go, especially now that my Kala SUB bass will sell over the weekend. Kind of know what double bass to go for unless a good second hand one pops up but either way, a double bass will be incoming shortly. You've actually got me excited about it from simply saying, "The sound of each note, and the effort to make them not sound crap". I love the sound anyway but having to focus, concentrate and develop the actual technique I'm really excited about.

  12. Having played a lot of cabs, including those with the 3012LF woofer (like the Audiokinesis Thunderchild, the Fearless F112 and the TKS 1126), I suspect much of what can make them sound ‘hollower’ in the mids is how well the cab balances throughout the frequency spectrum. Basically the 3012LF is so bass heavy (which is wonderfully fun, but mostly excessive in my real world use) that the mids sound very muted/polite in comparison. However they are still there. If you don’t go in knowing this and being ready to subtract the lows a bit, or EQ in some mids, then the 3012LF equipped cabs can seem a little tame. They also suffer from a few dB less broadband efficiency than other woofers with less lows, which doesn’t help. The BB2 woofer is 3012LF based but IMO clearly has significant engineering tweaks to reduce the huge low end. I suspect it ends up acting a bit more like the 3012HO. It also is put into a box that suits the driver, so it ends up hugely efficient/loud. I like how it balances ‘top to bottom’ so ended up with a similar FRFR cab designed by @stevie. As you both know.

  15. The Spector coda 4 aren't that common, but lovely basses, narrow string spacing, lovely quilt maple cap under translucent red finish. Black hardware. This isn't the mega expensive US version..I think this is the more accessible Korean pro version, although I cant find a 'made in' label anywhere. The pickups are EMG hz. The bass comes with the black pickup guard option on the neck position, I am not a great fan personally, so I leave it off with the screws in to block the holes (see pic) also supplied in sale. Lovely playing guitar bright and punchy, narrow J type neck, narrow string spacing. A very nicely put together, playing and visually excellent bass. Price droppped as bass now returned to original, and still great btw..pickup spec. Now on auction, will be removed if bids received £275

Neck-thru-Body Scale Length 33-7/8" (860mm) Neck Maple/ Mahogany Fingerboard Ebony Nut Width 2-3/16" (56mm) Radius 39" (1000mm) Frets 24 Body Figured Maple/ Rose/ Maple Bridge BPZ-6 (with Piezo) Pickups Single Coil x 2, Piezo Pickup Pickup Switch 2 Balancer Controls 5-Control System Hardware Gold Color Translucent Blue Piezo Pickups in Solid Brass Bridge The piezo pickups used on the TRB models use individual bimorphous piezo elements for each string, all built into a specially designed bridge which is machined from solid brass. Figured Maple Body with Thru-neck Construction The TRB-series basses feature figured maple bodies that offer the requisite tone as well as outstanding visual appeal. Neck-thru Models Because piezo pickups directly pick up the resonance of the instrument body, the body itself must be made from the finest woods and designed to deliver rich, deep tone. The neck-thru design of theses basses affords the best possible foundation for this amazing sound.Finish is transparent blue turquoise. A lovely instrument ! I'm only really selling it as I don't have space for 3 basses plus guitars and this is by far the biggest I own.

  24. Actually I think that's a really good piece of advise! My bass teacher is incredibly good and he does that from time to time. Maybe you need some time out of the music world. Like long vacations. Then you find the passion again. And if you don't, it's fine too. You had an awesome time and maybe it's time to move on (I don't think it would be the case but who knows)

  25. @ped I understand the difficulties with implementing custom options on a community forum. I will quickly kneel down and do the "We're Not Worthy" stance to everyone involved in BassChat, a huge thank you for making this platform for our low-endedness such a good place to have our community. I think the addition of a SOLD button is a great idea. Maybe following that, should the software handle it, a function where editing a post isn't possible after a set time - say, a day or so. This would then mean that a poster would be able to edit out spelling mistakes or add extra pictures to the initial post. All further edits or additional information would then be added to subsequent posts, which also become un-editable after a time. I appreciate this could be a problem as it would circumnavigate the bumping rule (but of COURSE everyone on BC is honest enough not to post nonsense on an advert just to get it to the top of the pile right?) Anyway, there must be a way that we can help users - I don't see this as a way to make life difficult. I expect some would complain that they'd want to have some time to create a good advert - maybe a template can be provided for such times (which I am sure we have somewhere??) Would welcome thoughts on that one!

  29. And regarding that Nikon, turn the Active D-Lighting thing off (or it's lowest setting at least - I forget). You don't really want to recover detail from the shadow, it will be noisy and distracting anyway. Embrace the contrast. Look at the best concert pics, and they're often a kind of chiaroscuro style.

  30. My other hobbies are track days but because I have been so busy for the last two years, I've not had the time to go and do any. Plus, I was so absorbed in music, I didn't have the energy to start thinking about getting the car set up to track again. However, next year, I will be getting out and doing some track days. Its quite weird but doing track days is very much like playing in a band. You usually go with some mates, staying in a hotel the night before having a few drinks and something to eat. Usually some banter and chatting about cars etc. This is not too dissimilar to going on tour and gigging with a band and hanging out between sets etc. Then on the day you do the track day, talking about all things related like how to take certain corners, how the car is handling, how its going. Very similar to talking about how the gig is going, the songs, performing etc. At the end of the day you pack up like you do at the end of a gig.

  31. This is exactly how I feel about it these days. I've cut right back atm and only play where and when I want. It may be an age thing but I was sick and tired of playing to and for dickheads, this includes some landlords and band members. I've just turned 51 and have gigging since I was 17. I have virtually no interest in equipment any more. No GAS whatsoever. But my passion for cooking curry is getting bigger!!! Have a break mate and see how feel

  35. I, like many probably read the original post and thought, "living the dream" I guess it is what most of us could only dream of achieving, I can understand getting down about the constant repetitiveness of loading, travelling, setting up etc. But would you swap it for a target based sales role or fixing ex hire cars and arguing with those that damaged it why they should pay to repair it......I thought not! I was chatting with Gary Numan's bassist the other year and he was telling me how physically punishing it was to actually tour and how hard it was to come home from a tour and pretend to be normal for a while! I said "Tim, you own a music shop, you sell that dream to every little, and not so little kid that walks through the door and buys a bass or a guitar, to them you are living the dream that they so want" his reply was "yeah, i get what you are saying" I can't really advise as to how to change things for the better when what you describe as your day to day existence would still be what I would call my dream job but then again, never having had that dream job I probably have no comprehension of the realities of actually living that dream!

  36. Having read that, it occurs to me that it is quite important to have more than one hobby, so you don't put all your eggs in one basket, so to speak. I guess one reason I don't get too down on the bass is because I do other things too... weights, mountain biking, surfing, a bit of classical guitar. Could that be an issue? I don't know if the OP'er has any hobbies apart from bass....

  39. Find a good teacher and have some bass lessons designed to push you in new directions. A breath of fresh air and being pushed to achieve by someone else can jump start your interest. I did that last year and while it hasn't dramatically changed me, I play better lines and with more confidence as a result.

  42. Here's a glimpse into my little corner of this abyss: "Joy to the World" (1970/71), by Three Dog Night. I managed to get through the first three decades of my life without hearing this song. I think of those as “the lucky years”. "I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)" (1993), by Meat Loaf. I had a mate whose girlfriend loved this song. To indulge her, he’d turn up the car radio and she’d sing along. After two weeks with the song at number one in the charts, I hated the song. After three weeks, I hated the girlfriend. After four weeks, I hated the entire concept of human love. The fact that Mr. Blobby eventually downsized Mr. Loaf in the charts was a Pyrrhic victory, to say the least. "Theme from M.A.S.H. (Suicide Is Painless)" (1992), by the Manic Street Preachers. I don’t care that it was for charity. I’m not feeling charitable. A Hi-NRG version of "Strange Fruit" would be less misjudged. I need a drink.

  45. I reckon that's 'cause The Smiths were traditionally the preserve of speccy students (even if we do work in advertising now,)and nobody outside of that demographic (or Mexico) has ever heard his solo nonsense so it never made it's way into the national consciousness like Amarillo or Tubthumping. You might hear Charming Man on BBC6 occasionally but nobody is screaming out for the Thursday night turn to do "Don't Make Fun Of Daddy's Voice" down at the Grimthorpe WMC...

  46. Hey Linus27 Refreshing to read your post. I can’t help but think is it really your music that is the issue? On the surface it sounds like your in a great place. You’ve experienced lots of different stages musically. If you took away your music would you see things differently? What would you replace it with? You mention heading towards 50. Is this what’s driving your current state of mind. Is it triggering some sort of negative response?
