  1. I normally only advertise larger items like basses/amps etc as pick up only (no matter what the guy in Spain thought that meant reticently). I realise this limits who can buy but i feel safer handing something over and both parties can agree the item is as sold etc. I also chose not to risk having to chase items, give refunds etc due to items going missing or getting damaged. I also chose not to have to be responsible for poor packaging, although i doubt it would ever come to that, but finding and packing gear takes time and i chose not to want to do it. My loss if i cant sell the item of course.

  2. Rather reluctant sale this one. Superb ACG 32" scale Border Reiver. Comes with one of those hardcore Fusion 'gig bags' I think it's the Urban Series. Actually a guitar item but fits a headless short scale bass perfectly. In excellent condition having been pretty much played at home for its life. Nice and light at 7.5lbs. Pics and spec on the ACG website here: https://www.acguitars.co.uk/project/0310brss4/ Also to note that the bass now has an SEQ preamp. Stacked vol/blend plus what are best described as a customisable tone control for each pickup. Very easy to set up and use. Happy to deliver for petrol money within a couple of hours drive for me or to meet somewhere mutually conveninet. Reluctant to courier if at all possible. Here are some of Alan's pics happy to take more if required.

  4. So I am part of a collective of musicians called Grunge Garden presents, we do a number of tribute acts. This gig was our biggest of the summer, end of August with 1500 at the event. Not using our usual drummer so it could be a tad tighter but it gives a decent impression. The crowd

  5. I am primarily a bass player, I love mixing dance music and am heavily bass influenced in that genre too. However, when driving, I absolutely sing my head off. Everything from Ian Dury to Twelve Foot Ninja to Disclosure. Lyrics combined with good music have the power to bring me to tears. Tears of joy, sadness, even laughter. I think some of you dismiss this power unthinkingly. I also dabble in writing poetry, but always with a rhythmic meter as if they were song lyrics.

  6. I've sold things on that basis, how I see it is this, the options are A-collect or meet up. Or B-buyer takes the risk. As long as the seller isn't ONLY offering shipping at buyers risk then it depends how much you want it. Almost every time I list an item as strictly collection /meet up only I get lots of offers of purchase based on them taking care of the shipping and sometimes actually sending the packaging materials too. If no one wants to buy it then so be it, I'll hang on to it.

  8. I guess it depends whether or not you think it's causing you some issues. Learning to play with better "economy of motion" will definitely allow you to access more faccility across your instrument. I have a good video that breaks down left hand technique here:

  10. Well, managed to get my hands on one of these beauts as B stock. Wow. What. A. Pedal. That's all I came here to say. Edit: I can't remember the last time I bought a pedal and daydreamed about playing it the entire day after I'd played it. I'm GAS-ing about a pedal I own. I got it with the delicious synthy swells in mind, but have been dreaming about the moog-y, 80's quick classic synth bass vibes.

  13. Do opera lovers care about the arias? For example a literal translation of the Departure Aria, a very important and romantic song: This damn door sticks. This damn door sticks. It sticks no matter what I do. It is marked 'pull' and indeed I am pulling. Perhaps it should be marked 'push'?

  14. The body is pretty much done. I may add a second pickup but I think I'll see how it sounds first. There's only one pot in there because my little push/pull pot adventure was not successful. I have a habit of trying to run before I can walk - so, just a straight volume control this time around. I've also done a bit more carving on the headstock. It's a shame because I don't think it looks quite as good like this but hey, the thing needs strings, so needs must.

  16. Some of you maybe already be aware of Kate, but her new album ‘Trophy’ came out the other day and I can’t stop playing it. For those that may not have picked up on her, she has a bit of a complicated musical backstory which I’m sure you can Google if you’re so inclined. She came to my notice through the Postmodern Jukebox with a cover of All About That Bass in which she sings and played double bass (check out the solo).... Bizarrely, this enormously popular video sadly became her undoing for a while. She became contractually entangled with a label who wanted to market her as seen in that video and would not budge on anything else. She had so much else to offer and ultimately it was their loss. Now free of any obligations, she has produced her first proper solo album and it’s a gem as far as I’m concerned. Here are a couple of tracks.... Kate and her band are over here in January. As fate would have it, she plays Islington, London on Jan 25th, the same day I’m in Islington watching The Aristocrats! We will be travelling to Brighton the following day to see her there instead.

  19. Hi All Selling my Yammy TRB4 MK1. I am pretty crap at models, eras, MK1/MK2 and so on 🤔 so please feel free to correct me should I be just plain wrong!? Now that's out of the way..... I feel the pics capture the bass really well. It is in, I would say 8/10 condition wise but that is subjective. It is a truly great Japanese bass with some clever tweaks available under the control plate. The stacked j pickups are very strong and punchy regardless of what tones you want to dial in. VOL/BLEND/BASS/3 WAY SELECTABLE MIDS/TREBLE configuration, mids adjustable further with trim pots. One piece Ash I think weighing in at just shy of 9lbs nice unobtrusive weight. Also a slap cut for those inclined to such trickery. A few small dings as shown in pics but kept in its original Burgundy Yamaha branded hard case from new. Beautiful player! Any questions fire away Cheers Craig.

  20. Sorry for the delay, Al! It was bought brand new from Bassdirect for what I thought was a very reasonable price, especially when I had the bass in my hands the next day and realised the quality! You're right though, I can't imagine ever letting this go, I imagine It'll replace my Sandberg and spector as #1. Appreciate the kind words about my rig as well, it's taken a few new amp days to come back to my first gigging head (literally the same amp I sold, bought back years later)... oops!

  24. Isn't that how life works? As long as no one is being forced to arrange a courier a take all the risk then that's how it is, if you've any concerns jump in the car, bus, taxi, aeroplane or whatever and go and collect it. If it's an item available elsewhere including postage then just buy that one even if it costs more.

  25. I know this isn't relevant to the OP as top end is important to him BUT I stack two SC3s (in landscape format for optimum bottom end) and the sounds with my Subway 800+ and Eden WT550 are to die for, especially on the classic rock covers gigs I mainly do.

  26. There are lyrics and lyrics is the answer. There are deep and emotional songs, there are entertaining songs, amusing songs and there are those where the lyrics are effectively meaningless. And some prog has wonderful lyrics: Standing on a golf course Dressed in P.V.C. I chanced upon a golf girl Selling cups of tea She asked me did I want one Asked me with a grin For three pence you can buy one Full right to the brim So of course I had to have one In fact I ordered three So I could watch the golf girl Could see she fancied me And later on the golf course After drinking tea It started raining golf balls And she protected me Her name was Pat And we sat under a tree She kissed me We go for walks In fine weather All together On the golf course We talk in Morse

  28. YES!!! I bought that on 45, what a tune. Their whole album was later given to me on cassette by an American lad who ended up at my school. Some absolute nonsense songs on there but they just work, if you have that nasal a singing voice though I suppose it's the only way to go. My tuppence worth: lyrics are important to me. I remember them, I think about them, etc. But I can see why so many people only remember the chorus or completely get it wrong. 'When a man loves a woman' is often requested for weddings etc when it's actually about her doing the dirty, for example, because people only remmebr the key line from the chorus. But that to me also makes it a clever song because you "need" to go deeper in to it for the real meaning. Nonsense lyrics also work for me if they're catchy or part of something bigger. We Didn't Start the Fire is just a list of stuff, but it's making a point. Unlike rappers listing out "luxury" brand names. Then there's famously "Sting 's gibberish classic" of course.

  29. It depends on the room size - I angle my cab (when I'm using the small cab) in small spaces: your cab on the floor is all good if you've several feet between you and it, if it's right behind you (and the drummer's very close, too) then it can be very hard to hear...

  32. I wouldn't say responsible - I took what had already been done and adjusted/amended to suit - I'm just the monkey - never the organ grinder! I knew there was a good reason I took up bass rather than keyboards...

  33. I don't know many online fora nor real life meetings where the membership remains unchanged to be fair. Since I returned some regular posters have faded and some who were once mainstays barely pop in. On the other hand there are still many kind, thoughtful people here. Just stay away from the off topic threads. Nothing worse than discovering that lovely bloke who leant you a bass or sold you a pedal you'd been searching for is a nazi.

  34. If were a seller, the reasons you state for wanting the seller to arrange the courier, are the reasons I'd want the buyer to arrange the courier. Couriers are too cheap, we don't want to pay what it actually costs to ship something, so drivers and depot staff are overloaded and under-paid, so they don't care. Insurance covers damage, so long as the courier can't wriggle out of it, which they often do with arduous conditions on what they will and won't carry and packaging requirements. When selling, I only offer collection: either by yourself or you're nominated carrier - essentially FCA incoterms for those in logistics - because I don't want to be responsible for a third party handling the instrument. I do have the advantage of being a Logistics manager, so can get my packing department to help with the packaging up of anything I sell

  35. Great review! I went with my wife, who it’s safe to say isn’t generally a fan of the type of music that Snarky Puppy play, and she was absolutely blown away by the whole evening, as was I. Also, there appeared to be huge affection from the crowd towards the band and it felt like a real celebration of their career so far. It couldn’t happen to a nicer (or more talented) bunch..!

  38. A recent buy this is a 1983 Dan Smith era Fender US Jazz Bass. I’m selling as an old bass of mine I regret selling has come up. Beautiful bass that came to me in dire need of setting up, new strings and a good clean. Now the action is fine, truss rod tweaked and the bass has had stickers and muck removed. It has been strung with Rotos 40-100s. You can see where one of the removed stickers has left a lighter patch underneath it - annoying but only cosmetic. The stock switchcraft jack has been replaced as it was worn out but I’ll include the old one. Bass sounds and plays great and has the rare one piece scratchplate and strat type controls. These are often modded with chrome control plates so nice to see one stock. Truss rod and micro tilt mechanism works, loads of life in the frets. The neck is lovely to play. One or two minor paint dings on the bottom rear edge of the body near the strap button. Bass weighs 4.6kgs nice and balanced on a strap - wide strap and straplocks included. Bass was used and gigged in smokey clubs throughout its life. I’m selling for what it owes me. Pickup preferred but can courier at buyer’s cost. No trades. UK only.

  42. Had a BB2, didnt get on with it, now have a Fearless F112 and love it. It sounds better to my ears, plus the ability to use in tilt back mode. F112 is a lot heavier though but that's a not a downside IMO, just a preference. I must admit though, if it wasn't for a very generous member on here i would have another BB2. I was saved at the 11th hour lol.

  43. Ha. Then imagine the look on the face of this very young female attendant in the record shop back in '69 or thereabouts, when this nerdy looking 12-year-old me, after having listened to one side of Yes' eponymous album answered her question: "Did you like that record?" with a disappointed: "Nah. They sing too much..."

  46. Being away so much cost me my first marriage, but Mrs Bassfinger MKII was, at the time, a copper so understood long hours and crazy shifts. She's since retired through Ill health, and i've sort of move partially sideways in my field away from actually geological work towards the planning and asset management side of things. Instead of contracting I've settled on a full time employer who are really good. I don't get to go away so often, and when I do now it tends to be more Western Europe rather than the Americas or the Stans. I still do a little consulting, but not too much these days due to potential conflict with my full time employer, but 50 euros an hour plus expenses is a good crack when I do take on a bit on the side. I'm 51, heading for 52, and I've shovelled enough away in recent years that I'm knocking it on the head 2 months past my 55th birthday which is when my mortgage will be paid off. I won't be buying a private jet or a racehorse, but I won't starve either and I can spend some time with Mrs Bassfinger and my dawg.
