It’s hard, but it’s done and nothing can change that. If that’s how little they value you, well, you’re better off finding out as soon as possible and having these people out of your life. Let the negative rage go and move on. Believe in yourself. Use that energy to get something else going. F**k ‘em.9 points

Have some perspective Young Teebs, you can't kill them all. Imagine a band just comprising of basissts because anyone who tried to play another instrument is murdered! We'd all be in Royal Blood tribute bands...6 points

I've been fired twice so the band leader could get his mate in. The drummer I'm playing with tonight was fired, from a band we both played in, for exactly the same reason. Some band leaders will stick with you even if you're shagging their wife and other will sell you down the river at the slightest excuse. That's the life we live in bands. That's why you need to network so you can quickly bounce back and stick two fingers up at these guys.6 points

I've been reflecting on the couple of threads from Basschatters unceremoniously or bewilderingly sacked from their bands. Lots of solid advice about moving on to better things, which got me thinking. How about we share our stories from when we were sacked or we finally threw up our hands in horror and walked, and this provided the catalyst to much happier times. My most recent experience was leaving a band of my own volition. The BL was full of BS, couldn't play in time, but did all the work and gave me the gig when I auditioned. So I hung around. I found us a fantastic singer and the drummer unearthed a gem of a keys player. We all knew the BL was the glass ceiling but thought he was a likeable innocent buffoon, possibly on the spectrum too, and so put up with his idiosyncrasies. Then I got a friend in to dep for a gig and discovered he was actually quite a nasty piece of work. She blew the gig and showed me the hectoring, pestering messages he'd sent her, which led to her decision. He then treated us to a wholly different version of events, which painted her as the villain. Other stuff then blew up between him and the keys guy and I walked. He then, in a fit of pique sacked a singer, drummer and keys player so far above his level he should have been begging them to stay. They and I formed a four piece to honour a gig commitment and have subsequently carried on as a band. The new venture is harmonious both on and off stage. Mutual respect all around and damn we sound good. So the guy who we all thought was a bit of a four letter word actually brought us together then provided us with the perfect platform to kick start this new project. Happy days.5 points

Total b*stards! As others have said, the former bassist will realise why he left and do the same again. Have them all killed! Best of luck Rubbersoul 👍5 points

What is it with people these days. If one of my staff threw a tantrum and threatened to quit over something I'd hold the door open for them. If that's they type of spineless weasels you were playing with then you're better off without them. You mist now form a new, better band, amd steal all their gigs.5 points

Well, @krispn... you've really gone and done it now... Just sold my Markbass head and officailly pulled the trigger on the Mesa Strategy Eight:88 head! It better be good or you'll find me standing outside your window shaking my fist in anger! And before you ask, yes, yes I will obviously run away if you open the door...4 points

Good advice about the lessons etc. Don't know about the OP, but my case the player that left and then wanted back in was worse than me. There aren't many players worse than me, but he definitely was!!😂 Sometimes it's just a 'mates' thing.4 points

What a nasty thing to do just before Christmas!! Similar thing happened to me. Old bass player clearly wanted to get back in the band and was hanging around like a spectre at the feast. I managed to see the writing in the wall and resigned before I was fired. I was still bloody annoyed though. Happy ending, I was invited into a much better band by people who'd seen me play in the other one. I'm sure you'll go on to better things too!!4 points

NOW SOLD Trying to thin the herd again....... Sandberg PM4 in Matte Blackburst fitted with a Hipshot Detuner. Good used condition with no issues other than a broken scratchplate screw and some light player wear. Slight buckleworm on the rear. It's an older one and I believe it was a custom order originally. I've had it about 5 years and it was a few years old when I got it. Matched headstock and block inlays, Glockenlang preamp and Sandberg pickups. Active or passive switching with a passive tone control. Lovely Jazz profile neck with some flame and I think its a Pau Ferro board as it looks a bit lighter than rosewood. Nicely set up with brand new strings too. Comes with a gig bag. Collection/demo near Stansted Airport or I can possibly deliver to Herts/Essex/Kent/Suffolk/NE London by negotiation. Sorry, no couriers.... Thanks for looking 😊3 points

Slightly disagree, average guitarists are 10 a penny if that’s all you require, excellent guitarists are harder to find because they are always working in bands.3 points

I suppose someone with malicious intent could create one or more false profiles in order to leave false feedback and create the illusion of trustworthiness. But that seems like an awful lot of trouble to go to - and fairly easy to spot. Apart from that, the only other reason i can think of is to try and overcome a ban. And, again, I'm pretty sure that would get discovered quite quickly. So whilst I'm sure it's possible I'd be surprised if it happens very often. Personally, I just have the one profile although I've heard it suggested that even that is one too many.3 points

That sucks. As the Doc says, it's better that you know now. I can't help thinking that they'll be back when the reasons that the previous guy left all surface again. But right now, I think you're better off without people like this in your life so move on and find some better people to work with.3 points

Ampeg SVT 2 pro all valve 300w bass head, He’s had very little use, in excellent condition & sounds immense. You can dial in any sound you fancy from this high end beast, from the classic SVT to the modern times & this one also has the valve drive. Excellent example of an incredible all valve SVT, If you want a proper bass sound look no further than this 13 valve beauty, My 2x12 cab is not included or for sale 😎2 points

Which to 99.9% of anyone listening to them is 100% true. My band are far more likely to notice differences between flats and rounds or 2x10 and 1x15 than which bass is actually creating the notes, and all other things being equal, most half decent players can make a Jazz sound like a Precision and vice-versa. I suspect tone is only a small factor in preference; I prefer the simplicity of Precisions but mostly like fat necks. Had Jazzes come with fat necks as standard, I might have preferred them.2 points

The jazz is my choice of instrument because of the tonal variations that are available, I’ve had over 35 of them and I now have 7 that I wouldn’t part with, and of that 7 none of them sound the same 🙂2 points

I’ve played little else other than Jazz basses for years (currently three in the arsenal) but I’ve been playing my self built Precision constantly for the last couple of weeks and am feeling the urge to get a good used P now.2 points

What exactly do you want to do? Just silent practice using phones or running through the amp and into headphones? Is it just so you can hear yourself practice or do you need a more accurate sound? Do you specifically want to use the amp? Do you want to record anything whilst you're playing through the phones?2 points

My 2 necks turned up today and I’m really impressed by the quality of them especially as they only cost £20 each! there’s no sharp fret ends and I checked it for high/low frets but I couldn’t find any!.............😀2 points

Seeing Paul Morley's name on the front would be enough deter me from picking any book. I recall his scribblings in the NME/MM were pretty pretentious. As for Bowie, he was occasionally alright but of course Morley isn't the only person to see him as some kind of deity2 points

Unfortunately that's often the problem when you play with people who aren't mates. I've been booted out of non-mates bands a few times which is why I no longer bother and will only consider forming or joining a band with people who are at least good acquaintances. Unless they are your mates then I'd tell myself it's no big loss and they were sh01te anyway. Good luck finding a better band with less sh1tty people2 points

I can only sympathise, having been unceremoniously sacked myself a couple of weeks ago. If you didn’t see the thread at the time it’s here, you might find it interesting... I’m still mystified / annoyed with the insubstantial reasons and the way they handled it. Good luck to you, something better might be just around the corner.2 points
-
Outrageous from any band even more so just before Xmas. Agree with others, the reasons he left will resurface and he'll leave again. Out of curiosity how long were you in the band ? Move on to something better and get it out your system. If it helps i'd be raging too. Dave2 points

Maybe it's because people can be rather unkind to any famous bassists that are daft enough to come on here. I have multiple accounts as I can't have anyone discovering that I'm really Drongo Notorious, the single-note king of neo Emo-billy Zydeco funk. BUGGER!!!2 points

Apparently Keith Richards has 3000 guitars so that explains a good few years of global production! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Richards2 points

Guitar shops selling new basses and guitars are going out of business every week. There was always the moan in the trade that the internet trade was killing the shops. Since I’ve stopped working in a guitar shop, I’ve not bought a factory fresh/shop fresh bass - that’s 6 years. And I’ve bought and sold about 20 basses. Market saturation? There are also folk who have ridiculous collections. I’d suggest @cetera has about 40% of all basses ever made.2 points
