Spoke to the guys about a b-stock/ex demo cab...ordered and paid for at 1pm yesterday. Arrived by 9am today. Jesus wept...grand behaviour.5 points

Rush ended in the most appropriate and dignified way and although this is a huge shock, I'm thankful that Neil's illness was not made public, which I'm sure would have been the last thing he wanted. I feel terrible for his young daughter in particular.4 points

I’ve often wondered, do they really like those, or do they just pretend to, to please the band? “Ah god no! Oh well, better get up and make out we’re enjoying it, otherwise they’ll start playing an extended version of smoke on the water or something”.4 points

Arrived today - another impulse buy....so much for downsizing. Lovely looking bass with a slate grey figured maple top and curved body (which I wasn't aware of), specs below: Body Material: Mahogany / Top: Figured Maple (Flame / Tiger / Curly Maple) / Technology: Solid Body / Colour / Finish: Transparent Black / Neck construction: Bolt on neck / Scale: Long scale / Scale Length: 34" (86,36 cm) / Neck: L2000 Maple / Fretboard: maple / Fretboard Inlays: Dot inlays / Frets: 21 / Strings: 4-string / Pickup type: Soapbar / Neck Pickup: G&L MFD Humbucker / Bridge Pickup: G&L MFD Humbucker / Electronics: 3 band Equaliser / Pickup Selector Switch: Blend / Hardware: Chrome This one has the maple neck from an L2000 - apparently had a fault with the original neck and was replaced by the UK Distributor - there is an email from Mark Stickley at Bass Direct confirming this. Haven't had a chance to place this through an amp yet but did have about half an hour with it acoustically in the office. Nice feel to the neck, nicely weighted and balanced. There are a number of reviews online which give good positive feedback. https://www.guitarfella.com/gl-tribute-l-2000-bass-guitar-review/ Photos and detailed feedback on the tonal package to follow.3 points

Howdy, y'all eclectic bunch o' “BC'ers"!! NOW ONLY £345 FOR ALL THIS RAW, SNAKEY, MADE IN ENGLAND, T.E. POWER!!! Trace Elliot AH300-7 Amp & Trace Elliot 4x10 Cab 400W 8Ω Both the Amp and Cab have been re-tolexed and the closest way to describe the finish would be to say that it looks as though a large blue snake swallowed a Trace Eliot rig. Needless to say, it looks awesome!!... Providing you like to ROCK!!! The AH300-7 is a top quality, English made amp with some very nice features such as; · 7 band graphic eq preamp · Built in adjustable Compressor · Pre-shape switch · Passive/Active inputs · Effects send/return · Balanced D.I. Another cool little feature is the gain led meter that lights up to show when you are running the gain too high, too low or just right... I thought that was pretty nifty... All Goldilocks and what-not!! The graphic eq can dial in some amazing tone and can also be bypassed should you choose to keep it simple and not take advantage of all that lovely Trace Eliot rich eq mastering... On the back it's pretty straightforward, you got the mains input, the on/off switch and two speaker outputs that operate with standard ¼ inch “jack" instrument cable. Minimum load is 4ohms. The Cab is a 4x10 400W @ 8Ω Trace Elliot behemoth that weighs in at roughly the same weight as a classic 1960's mini cooper. If you are blessed with the strength of ten men (as I am) this is a one-man lift however, if you are an average puny mortal, this cab is certainly not something I can recommend hauling around on a regular basis... unless, of course, you have a very attractive chiropractor whom you would like to visit more often...b Cab has recessed handles on‘t' side and rubber feet on‘t' base. Dimensions of cab (including feet) are; Height = 71 cm Width = 62 cm Depth = 43 cm Everything is working as it should and all sounds fantastic!! The stack had been sat around a while and there were some initial crackles when I first plugged it & played through. I have since; opened the head unit (very carefully) cleaned the connections and cleared fine dust with light air CPU airspray. Also opened rear connection input panel at rear of cabinet, cleared dust and cleaned contacts. Another play through, and now the Blue Snakeskin Bass Rig Behemoth Battle Stack is now primed and ready to Attack, noise free... 👍 .... until you start playing through it... There's a small piece of missing plastic from one of the port covers at the front of the cab (pictured) Also, a covering cap is missing from the gain switch on the amp (pictured) The front panel of the amp lights up, which is pretty “rock ‘n' roll" and also features a carry handle so looks like a fancy blue reptile skin briefcase when being held... amp weighs in at 12.4kg. So most puny humans should be able to lift the amp at least... Dimensions of Amp (with feet) are: Height = 15 cm Width= 50 cm Depth = 43 cm I imagine if you want this rig couriered you'd be looking at roughly £2000 so it's collection only or part meet unless you got a spare £2k you wanna throw at it... Any questions, please feel free to ask. Send me a message if you want me to drive the rig your way (for fuel cost) Or come visit me, you can have a trial and play 👍 I am more than happy to let you loose on a few different bass guitars so that you can get a real feel for what the trace stack is capable of... All the best Yum, yum, yum...3 points

I had this up for sale a while ago, had a luthier ( D Wilson) have a look at the finish and he could not tell if it was original or a very, very old refin. So anyway, up she goes- 1969 Fender Precison Bass Olympic White - bit more custard looking now Pretty much original including tort plate - I have the black repro one too but the original, albeit slightly shrunken tort one now on the bass. Plays and sounds superb, low action. Truss rod works as it should. Had a couple of frets replaced where needed, 3rd fret for definite. Pick ups growl and are really full sounding. Pots and pick ups below, can take more pics if required . New foam added by Bassdoc. Authentic ‘tab burn’ on headstock. Imported by me from Texas from second owner from new. No trades I’m afraid and price is firm. Comes with a generic Hard Case Welcome to come and try, take apart etc as and when you’d like. Coffee and cake provided 👍3 points

Having had tape recordings of 2 Talk Talk albums from early 80's made by a good friend i decided to buy the triple album CD that arrived today. I had forgotten just how fantastic a band they were. Having read up a little on Paul Webb he used a WAL & Kramer DMZ4000 fretless basses back then. What a bass sound. Most Vids from that era show him using the Kramer fretless bass. I believe he changed to a MM Stingray in later years. And here's me been looking for one of them for several months to no avail. I shall continue my serach for a god quality DMZ4000 / 40013 points

Buy a Trace Elliot 4x10 combo. You could leave it in the street and nobody would have the strength to pick it up and run away with it3 points

By the end of the first page of this thread I'd ticked off 12 songs from my covers band's setlist. Folks just know what they like, and like what they know. They're in the venue to relax and have fun, they really don't want 17 minute Jazz Odyssey-esque tomfoolery. They really don't.3 points

Are we really this many posts in without 'Mr. Brightside' making an appearance?! 🤢3 points

Yeah, but apart from four octave vocal range, the Hammond skills and the flute playing, what have the pub bands ever done for us? 😄3 points

Why don't cover bands ever do Hocus Pocus by Focus? I would love to see that, and the look on the average punters face. 😆3 points

A competitor to Helix / Kemper / Fractal units. Amp and cab sims, FX, can be used as a posh FX box or as a preamp direct for recording or into a PA or a power amp and traditional speakers. From the limited info so far - the amp and cab sims are likely to be based on NeuralDSP's own plugins but in a stage friendly format. NeuralDSP is owned by Doug Castro - the man also behind Darkglass so I imagine that bass will be catered for quite a bit - unlike some other modellers who seems to treat it as an afterthought. It also claims to be a profiler like the Kemper - so you record your real amp into the unit, and then the unit saves that "profile" - effectively creating a new amp sim that you can tweak from there. Hire an unaffordable amp - profile it, and keep the sounds forever. Can't wait to try one!3 points

I just thought I’d start a general reggae thread where anything reggae or ska related can be posted , like videos , events, news , techniques, equipment, anything your working on , or just about anything really 🙂 I started bass lessons when I was about 15 and was taught by a blues bassist , but I quickly found out that reggae was my passion, so I was playing blues and reggae, this was one of the first tunes I played ,2 points

I now have a third Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro - this was a bit of a bargain when I first noticed it before xmas on the Cash Converters website at just £299 with the matching hardcase included. I managed to stop myself from buying it then and expected someone else to snap it up, but when they knocked off another £50 I really couldn't resist.2 points

Hi, my intro post: A few years ago - after 30 years of doing not very much - I started playing a bass again. Some things don't change much. Back then it was a Framus and a WEM Dominator and now it's a Jack Casady and an Ampeg Rocket bass combo. And some other bits, because that just happens. Back then it was mainly blues and RnB but now I'm also enjoying country a whole lot more than before. I've enjoyed reading stuff on the forums and thought it might be nice to join. That's enough about me.2 points

Many of the 80s bands has great bass lines played by great bassists. I didn’t like much of that music at the time, being a teenage punker, but now really appreciate the musicianship of said bassists.2 points

This is my thinking. When my band of 15 years split i was glad to not have to play bass for a while. Obviously i didnt have to stop, but i wanted to. I was so used to playing live that without that reason i just didnt bother. I then got a guitar and thought id learn to play that properly, just for my own amusement. Now i had time on my hands i also got a digital multi track and was going to go back to writing songs etc. In the 6 months i had off i didnt touch the bas once, nor did i miss it. It was only when my GF/singer decided she missed it and we started up again did i pick the bass up again. Since then Ive enjoyed playing bass much more than i did in the past. I now sit at home learning all manner of songs, songs that we will never play. If the band split id continue doing this. I think i just needed a break.2 points

And this is why I have almost zero interest in covers bands. I don't think there has been a single song mentioned yet that I would want to have seen/heard being performed by the band that wrote it back in the day when they were still young and sexy, let alone a bunch of middle-aged blokes churring it out in a pub...2 points

It helps if you play another instrument . When I'm not in a band , I pick up my Acoustic guitar and work out new songs , my only audience is the cat and my deaf 94 yr old neighbour .I find it helps to keep my brain musically engaged .2 points

Ah thanks, sad to read in all honesty though, we hope you get sorted. If not maybe we can help you source something that would do the job, unless it’s one of those weird half metal speakers as we have no idea about those...Aloominum? Always here to help.2 points

The only advice I have is to frame the situation a little bit differently in your head. Instead of thinking I’m not in a band, there for I don’t have anything to practice for. Think of it like: I want to join and established band so I am going to learn these 50 commonly played songs (possibly even in different keys) so that I am ready to audition for any bands that need a bass player.2 points

Unless the postie magics up in the next hour or so, I won't know if it's the best or worst but it's definitely the last of the year, an old Aria Pro II IGB-600. I started playing in the late 80's and I have a real soft spot for basses from that era. I'm really looking forward to checking it out.2 points

Typical guitarist, doesn’t practice between gigs and bass player has to show him how it goes! Amateur!2 points
