  1. Thought I'd get it over with sharpish 🙂 Trip from Falkirk to Hull yesterday was a success. Pleasant memories of Westone basses. Plenty of ads in the music papers,Henry Thomas on Rock School, stocked in plenty of shops. In great condition for 37 years old. There was another on ebay which was cheaper but a good pal lives outside of Hull, long overdue visit made it worth the extra. That all changed. Young lad selling it dropped his price when I suggested cash vs Reverb fees 👍 When I got there he had another surprise 😮 Because I'd drove near 5 hours he decided another 10% off was in order 😎

  2. ** Apparently the guitar dater project is inaccurate, my bass was made in 2002-2004. Apologies I went by the info on said site** Makes no difference, it's still a mint bass. Hi all, This is my immaculate Pink Paisley bass, it dates to 2002 - 2004. There are no marks, dings etc' just a lovely example of this bass, hence the price. It has reverse tuners and for the size of the single pickup it sounds immense. It will come with a padded gigbag and delivery is included in the price. If it doesn't sell I'll just keep it, thanks for looking. Tom. PS, I didn't take the pics looking like this.....

  3. dunno about musical terrorism but there's plenty of criminal records I'll get me coat and yes banks suck big time, no managers any more just box tickers. Generally tolerable as long as you remember they're simply a business out to screw you for as much as they can get away with as cost effectively as possible

  5. I’d put the feelers out in the Uk but had no real joy then found this beauty out in the US. The guy I bought it off had bought it off the son of the chap who had owned it from new in 1980 and had just flipped it. It was manufactured in late 1976 and must have sat around for several years. Anyway I’m the new lucky owner and this bass is a gem. 100% original and it still has the bridge cover plastic buffers on which is really rare to find.... I’m buzzing

  8. Hi folks Again I find myself with too much ‘stuff’ and pressing family commitments so I’m looking to sell this beautiful bass. If you want the ‘ultimate’ Smith bass, this is it. One of the original 200 hand made in NYC by Ken and Vinnie (Fodera). Completely standard and the neck is dead straight, the action is super low. It barks, growls and plinks with the best of ‘em. - Haz pre-amp (two band, blend and vol) - Phase switch and active/passive switch - Smith bridge (early version) - Gold hardware including original headstock roundel - Walnut top, maple body - Ebony fingerboard - Comes with Smith Wax - Elixir super light strings (new) 0.040- 0.095 - Dunlop locks included - Weight about 4.3kg/9.5lbs More details here Must be collected from York (can meet a reasonable distance). Comes with teardrop style hard foam case. Ask away if you have any questions. I’m around most weekends and evenings if you’d like to try the bass yourself in my home studio setup which will let you hear the bass perfectly. A few pictures, ask if you’d like anything else! Cheers ped

  9. ** Now SOLD ** Hi Folks Very reluctantly, I am putting my Ampeg Classic Series all valve bass rig up for sale, which consists of: V4BH - 100 watt all valve bass amp. Bought off @Beedster in 2015, this bass amp is simply the best sounding bass amp I've ever owned. The good stuff about it - It sounds superb whatever music I've played through it, from old-skool Motown thump to 70s rock & 80s funk, right through that there indie 90s clank to Foo Fighters style stadium rock. It works in pretty much any musical situation, is so, so simple to use, isn't too heavy as valve amps go IMO (40lbs), and of course, it totally looks the part. At my weekend-warrior level of gigging (pubs, small clubs, functions etc), this amp pumps out 100 watts and easily fills a room with rich, warm low end bass tone! The not so good stuff - a) When I bought it from Chris, the Gain control shaft had already been broken off, something I should have had fixed straight away but I didn't because I was too busy using it at the time... As you can see in the pictures below , my very crude fix has allowed me to continue utilising the Gain control, which enables some very nice preamp stage valve distortion when dialled in.. Obviously it would be better if the gain control was fixed, but as it is, the amp is perfectly useable. b) The amp hasn't had a service since I bought it. At the moment, that's not a problem as I've not used it too much over the last four years, but it would undoubtedly benefit from a proper once-over by a qualified tech. Having said all of that, the amp is working really well and it comes with the fitted cover with proper Ampeg logo! To buy the equivalent Ampeg head now, including the cover, you'd be looking at around £900 new. But because of these two issues stated above, I have priced the amp accordingly, so I'm looking for £SOLD or near offer. (NB: I've attached the manuals for the amp and the two cabs which have all the requisite technical information...) Ampeg Classic Series SVT-15e bass cab (8 ohms) This came with the amp when I bought it in 2015 from Chris. It's in good condition and has the really nice Ampeg cover to go with it.. Not only does the cab match the amp perfectly (see photos) but sound wise, the cab is great paired with the V4BH - I've tried it with P basses, Jazz Basses, Thunderbirds, 5 string basses etc.. You name it, it sounds great in an old skool kind of way. . Around £425-£500 new. I'm looking for £SOLD or near offer for the cab & cover. Ampeg Classic series SVT-210HE bass cab (8 ohms) This is a great 210 cab and on its own, works nicely enough with the head. Like the 115, it sounds really good with every bass I've tried it with. Everything's working as it should, including the Tweeter, but no cover with this one I'm afraid. It's difficult to find a comparative price for this online now - nearest would be the neo version at well over £600 - but I'm looking for £SOLD or near offer for this cab. Full Rig - It has to be said that, when you put the 210 together with the 115, the whole rig just goes to another level! 😁 That's when you get the full 100 (valve) watts of power, with the thump and low mids coming from the 115, and the definition and faster attack of the 10" drivers which are better for reproducing more percussive styles of playing... It just makes a fantastic noise!! Price - Ideally, I'd like to sell this as one complete rig, and for that I'm looking for £SOLD or very near offer. But if that isn't possible then I'll entertain offers for the individual items, which all together come to over £800. Collection /meet ups - The rig is too heavy and too big to post so it's collection only from Littlehampton, West Sussex I'm afraid, but at least then you get a chance to try it out in person whilst being showered with tea/coffee /biscuits.. 😊 If absolutely necessary, I would be prepared to drive up to 50 miles (for a few extra sheckles) to meet up if getting to Littlehampton isn't possible for you.. Just to clarify; 1. the Xotic bass in the pictures isn't up for sale, it's there just to provide a sense of size and scale. 2. As stated above, this is a very reluctant sale so I reserve the right to change my mind. 3. Also advertised elsewhere. Any questions, please ask away here or by PM. And I have loads more pictures too if required.. Thanks for looking as ever.. 😊 Cheers Nik V4BH (1).pdf SVT210HE_SVT15E (2).pdf

  10. Hi all, I am not at all sure I want to sell this as it is a completely insane bass on every level from the craftsmanship to the pickups and pre-amp, however, as is always the way, there is a bass I want and if I'm to afford it, one of my heard must go! The 'Bajadera' bass as it is called has a 39 laminate body with through neck construction, it has a multi-laminate binding and comes with exceptionally rare and quite outstanding Lefay Rough Crystal pickups, it has a brand new Noll 3 band pre-amp and has had a full re-finish by Mike Walsh of Zoot Basses roughly 2 years ago. The action is superb, the tone is anything from rich deep to singing high. It's one of the most stunning basses I have ever seen/owned. I'm based is Basildon, Essex. Collection is preferred but postage can be arranged if absolutely required. Any questions, please ask. (Will post some better photos tomorrow!) Russ.

  12. Not quite the same story, but I found myself in a similar rut about ten or eleven years ago, once the two bands I had going were dwindling in activity. It became apparent that if I wanted to devote more time and energy to music, I would have to set off without them, so I started loitering around jam nights in town. Not all of them were worth going to, in hindsight. And yes, you will no doubt wince at the number of times you're asked to do a 12-bar blues, or have to put up with some Bob Dylan wannabe who gets butthurt about the other musicians not knowing Ballad of a Thin Man, or whatever, but at least you'll get to meet a lot of other musicians very quickly. And they almost always need good bass players. By analogy, if you compare it with answering a band's advert and going along to try out, a good jam night can be more like speed dating. It's still no guarantee of success, but at least you get to scope out more of the local scene more quickly.

  16. We laugh, but it's almost as daft and thoughtless as when protesters though US IRA pension funds were to do with the terrorist IRA. Youd think people would realise that, a) a few letters in a reference number is hardly evidence of anything amiss, and b) if you were trying to buy fissile material you'd hardly be likely to make any reference to the rogue state for which you work in the reference number. And don't get me started about money laundering. I get all this crap when clients pay me for my work. The regs are well intended but utterly stupid - they inconvenience normal, decent folk going about their daily lawful business while doing little to actually stop criminals from laundering money. This country is very good at kneejerk legislation and bureaucracy.

  19. Just had a funny thing happen. I paid a deposit for an Industrial Radio MIDIBass at the end of December and the payment has still not cleared into the company’s account nearly two weeks later. I contacted my bank today to find out what was going on and it turns out that the intermediary bank (HSBC US) has held the payment as being suspicious. My reference was IRN-## which is my invoice number. I got asked if the payment was related to Iran and was asked a whole bunch of other security questions and asked for information about what the payment was for etc. Was tempted to say that I normally pay for my arms to rogue states using bitcoin!

  20. A most regrettable sale of my new Overwater P bass with the optional PJ pickup configuration Alder body with sunburst finish and rosewood neck complete with tort pickguard For full technical spec please see the Overwater web site Build date was 9/10/19 and comes complete with all documentation and Overwater hard case we have packed away our bathroom scales so can’t give weight but it’s certainly one of the lightest P basses I have played plus when used with the padded 3.5 inch strap it’s a superbly balanced bass Bass only used in home to check all was ok, since then it’s just sat in its case as purchase of new house has prompted my dear wife to insist that the bass be sold Bass cost over £3000.00 new hence a bargain to be had especially as there is around a 6 month build lead time Collection only from West Midlands DY5 it please note that from approx 14th of February, dependent upon our solicitors finally completing our house sale then the bass will only be available for collection from Ashington Northumberland NE63 or if you would like to arrange your own courier collection then that’s fine. I will update ad on the day we move. If you wish for any more detail etc then please contact on 07926815395

  21. I've been after an older Matsumoku Rickenbacker copy, or something very similar, and I've just picked up this '77 Aria complete with original case. It needs a good clean, both cosmetically and electrically, but it sounds awesome and plays really well, the actions a tad high for my taste at the mo but I'll give it set up once cleaned. The seller reckons he has the origins TRC and pickup cover but is in the middle of moving and can't find them, he said if he finds them he'll post them to me so fingers crossed.

  22. Sadowsky NYC Deluxe 4-21 flame maple, caramel burst, with a Pau Ferro fingerboard. 4A flame maple top, 2 band eq with VTC. Weighs in at 7lb 15oz (3.5 kilos). I bought this new for £3,600 five months ago to be the bass to end all GAS, but after a few gigs (without it, it’s never left the house) I’ve realised I won’t ever use it in the sort of places where I gig. It’s immaculate, and is staying that way. Any trial or test is most welcome. Here’s a link to the original BassDirect ad: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Sadowsky_DLX_Satin_4_Caramel.html Here’s a bit more spec: Body - Alder chambered Top - 4A Flame maple Neck - Maple, 34” scale Nut width - 3.81cm Fingerboard - Pau Ferro Fingerboard radius - 12”, 21fret Pickguard - Parchment Pickups - Sadowsky Hum Cancelling Preamp - Sadowsky, 2 band, VTC Bridge - Sadowsky, high mass Tuners - Hipshot Ultra Lights Case - Sadowsky Softcase Happy to ship anywhere (I have the Sadowsky case and box), but I want the money in my bank account before it leaves here, and I’d strongly recommend a quality courier and insurance. I’ll get some nice photos done outside if it ever stops raining here. Stop Press - still raining, so here’s some fresh indoor shots, taken without a flash:

  23. When i first saw this bass, i was sold. But since i got the Dolphin SN TCS from Groatsworth, she hasn't received much attention anymore...and that is a shame because it is a beautiful bass. Previous owner ( i believe andybassdoyle) did a refret, which was done by the Gallery in Camden. The Dolphin was made in 2010 and is still in very good condition. I am happy to answer questions about the bass, or to make more pictures! I can ship anywhere you want: with the bass comes a case and i have a box to ship and some plastic and stuff to send it safely. Price is negotiable, trades are welcome but i prefer cash. And now some pictures:

  26. @therealting Overall from 3 shops and 1182 instruments for sale both new and secondhand (a statistically useful sample size) we get: (drumroll) 4 string basses 67% 5 string basses 29% 6 string basses 4% .... So it goes without saying that 6 string players are cooler than 96% of the bassplaying population, just sayin' .... 😎

  27. This bass is only going to have one control knob. I bought a maple one as I figured it would look nice with the pickups, but it's really small and would just look weird and sad sitting there on it's own. So I decided to make one: It's not finished yet, so will be a bit shinier, but I think it'll go nicely with the pickup covers. I've also done a bit more on the body but there's nothing to see yet. The top and back are waiting for me at the post office, so I'll make some real progress soon. I haven't even started on the neck, but I've got some fun time-consuming plans for that too 😆

  30. Nice to know I'm not the only one (who plays a 44" bass and doesn't care where D is)! I didn't know such differences existed 'till I went to the Double Bass Bash the other year. Refreshing after all the bollix we hear about "what's the weight", "what's the string spacing", "what's the fingerboard radius" in certain other threads. I think we can conclude ... it really doesn't matter.

  31. Yes, this is how it is for me. I think my mental hard drive is just about full. I seem to remember round about the time of Windows '98 that 'defragging' was a thing, to clean up and sort out your hard drive files. Does that even exist as a technique now? Anyway, that's what I feel I need. Not sure I have any space left in my head at all some days

  33. Problem doing it from tab is the notes all look the same value and time, and they're not. You need to keep playing through it and work out which are what I call "joining" notes (not essential to line, but help link the parts together) and which are essential. When you've got your head around that, add the joining notes in at your own pace and style.

  37. In the covers/function band, we have an (unwritten) songbook of perhaps 150 songs, of which there's a frequently-played core of 75 or so, all of which I can recall straight away. The other half are pretty much there, in fact if one's called, I freeze momentarily and couldn't tell you how it goes, but once the '2,3,4' has gone they (mostly) come back in their entirety. We don't rehearse. The originals band I was in 30 years ago had a reunion last Nov, we had, I think, 6 rehearsals for that, at the first one five or six of the songs came back straight away after 30 years absence. I'd listened to them via some mp3s we still had from the original tapes, but not played them. The other 10 or so took a bit more work, as several of them I'd forgotten about completely. I struggle a little to pick up new songs when I'm studying for exams (unending Microsoft and Cisco qualifications, mostly), but then that is my day job... I still forget what I've just come upstairs for, or go back down without it. The brain is a wonderful thing... 😃

  40. Hi folks, thanks to Sam for creating this thread and for all the kind words from you Bass fans. It means a lot. Just picking up on a few questions raised.... Jimothey asked about holes to the rear of the body. If that was to do with Sam's Custom PMM4-T, then if they are underneath the bridge they are holes for the Hipshot string ferrules for through-string option on the Hipshot bridge. If they are beneath the pick up: I use a tri-point PU height setting and lock-down configuration. Basically the three screws at the rear of the bass set PU height. Because there are three the PU cannot wobble so it's a breeze to set up. When the PU heights are set the top screws (3 in the case of this Bartolini MM PU) are simple screwed in to lock down the PU in the desired position set by the rear screws. I have to credit Joe Zon of Zon Guitars for the engineering solution here. The only bass I have ever seen with this feature was one of his. There may be others. Have a great day and keep it Funky!
