Totally original '94 Musicman Stingray complete with illusive "Flea" Bridge and wonderfully figured maple neck. This bass is a stunner and if my other basses had gone this wouldn't be up for sale. It's light for a Stingray @ 9lbs and as I discovered, if you take the knobs off it weighs 8.5lbs! 3 band EQ sounds great. The bass is in good, used condition. It has some paint chips here and there, the back of the neck however is mint and gloriously smooth. I've added a picture of a lovely maple neck (my Windmill) next to the Ray for comparison. It's quite the looker. Collection (at a distance?) from Margate, or I can post (probably best).8 points

I’ve just ordered a lovely black Sire just like that one from Andertons for £350 with 2 leads, hard case, strap, amp, 2x12 cabinet - bargain. 😂5 points

I think your intonation might be out. By a couple of meters.5 points

Nah, get the display one from Andertons and save yourself £75 or so (and they're doing a discount on the gig bags too, which are decent quality). You'll feel less precious about it and won't have that moment of heartache the first time you bang the headstock on the ceiling!5 points

And can I say thank you to you for providing us old guys with a sense of purpose during these difficult days? Enjoy the bass!4 points

Maybe we could ask the mods to create “missing basses” page, where we can put up pics and a description and then the post gets locked like the wanted ads? Then people can just check in and see if they know anything?4 points

If you don't eff it up occasionally, then you ain't trying hard enough. I'd much sooner hear a passionate performance than a perfect one.4 points

An absolutely fantastic condition Premier Dealer Network Classic Stingray IV in Gilded White complete with MM hard case. There were only 200 of these IV string basses manufactured, so reasonably scarce. Although it has four pots, it is the Classic 2EQ configuration. The fourth one becomes a tone pot when passive mode is selected. The finish is lush. It looks flat white at first glance, but it is in fact sparkly (gilded). You can see it in the photo of the rear. No trades thank you. The price includes shipping to mainland UK only. This is a seriously nice bass that I'm trying not to put too much thought into writing about 'cos I know I'll end up pulling it if I do. Weight = 10lbs 5oz. Payment via bank transfer.3 points

Yes, it could be this: "Zoom Room software audio processing includes echo cancellation, noise reduction and automatic gain control." https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115004830446-Zoom-Rooms-Software-Audio-Processing So see if it helps to turn off the software audio processing. But you'll each then have to set your input levels manually. Edit: Hmm, this might only apply for "Zoom Rooms". But perhaps there's a similar setting for "normal" Zoom? Better have a recount 😁3 points

The worst scratches look to be just above the string ferrules on the back but will more than likely polish out, the rest looks like it just needs a good wipe over. Get the best deal you can and go for it. 👍3 points
-
Blimey, like @AndyTravis said, it needs a wipe but a wipe would probably sort it all out. I'd bite their hands off at £350 or £375, mind you, that's because I've owned one.3 points

Sooo, a package including bass, amp, lead, bag, strap, tuner and ten lessons with a famous player of your choosing, all for £299. Bargain!! 😁3 points

We have a winner. ELO (and Thin Lizzy) are by far my favourite band. And have been since the late 70s but I’ve never seen them live. ☹️ I was too young and lived too far from civilisation to see them in the 70s or early 80s. And then it seemed like Jeff would never tour again. I did see ELO Part II in the early 2000s which featured most of the band except Jeff.... Bev, Mik, Kelly, Hugh... which was an absolute treat. One of my fave ever gigs. Down near the front at a decent sized venue for it still to be intimate (Guildford Civic Hall) and singing along to all those great tunes. Wonderful. Since the Hyde Park gig our little boy has been too young to take to gigs but last year we took him out to his first ever “real gig” - The ELO Experience featuring our very own @casapete. Wonderful open air gig with a Blondie tribute band supporting. He loved it. So, we thought “Well next time they tour...” but when the tickets came out this spring took one look and thought “£450 - £600 quid for tickets for the three of us... And no guarantee he won’t get overwhelmed by being in an enormodome and we’ll have to leave part way through... I really don’t think so!” So for now I think we’ll just keep it to The ELO Experience for our ELO live fixes! Irony is I now know no less than 2 members of ELO. One of my little boy’s friends in his class, his Grandad was in the band on cello for a couple of albums in the early years. And a guy I know, Jo, has been playing keys for them for the last couple of tours. Still don’t think I’ll ever see then, though...3 points

IMO a small finger span doesn't cause problems, but a bad technique does. If you look at videos of players, the good ones will always be moving their hands so as to place their fingers over the note they want to play. None of the "good" players anchor their thumb or stretch to reach notes.3 points

Up for grabs is my beloved Marshall VBA400. Price reduced to £500 Simply the best valve bass amp I have ever owned or used, and I've owned a fair few. This beast has more horsepower, heft and tone than anything else I've owned and I am gutted its leaving me, but needs must. It does come with a bombproof live in flight case made by adrenaline flight cases. All is in great working order with no issues. I'M UP FOR TRADES FOR 4 STRING FENDER P, G&L BASSES, MUSICMAN STUFF, ANYTHING LEO RELATED REALLY. Collection is necessary due to weight and size but can look to meet up if need be within reason. Folks are Welcome to come and try it out - AFTER WE COME OUT OF LOCKDOWN INNIT.2 points

Up for sale goes a rare bird: electric - acoustic Kramer KFB-2. It's been most likely made in 1987 and represents the Ferrington line of guitars and basses designed by the Nashville-based luthier Danny Ferrington. The idea was to create an acoustic guitarwith the feel of an electric. It is deep sounding with a very sensitive preamp. Neck is straight with low action, no fretwear, one tuning machine not original. The spruce top has slightly bent over years but it's pure cosmetic and doesn't affect playability. I will ship it within Europe, ask me for cost estimate.2 points

Thank you, Al Krow! Much appreciated. Due to the lockdown I actually have a bit of time to post here. Sure, here they are. First up is my Forte 4 in Vintage Tint Ash. According to PJ, only four were ever made in that finish and only two of these in this slightly darker tone (PJ owns the other one). Next to that is my Mike Starr LE. The solid maple wings and the Haz 9V get it quite close to the Spector tone I always had in my head. I am looking forward to checking out the recently announced Spector Euro LT with Fishman Fluence pickups. Replacing the neck pick up with the Mike Inez Legacy Fishman pickup would turn this bass into another AIC bass. Next to that is my Euro 77. I like the 70s retro look (a homage to the NS-1) and use it for funk and disco songs. I am only a living room (well it is more a rehearsal room and gym now ;- ) player and play along to songs on youtube. I am currently playing a lot of AIC and STP (Rob DeLeo has some amazing basslines) songs. So, my "rig" is rather limited and only consists of my basses and a GK MB 112-II amp. -tab=comments#.url2 points

You do have to realise as I did that buying a Sire puts an end to GAS for ever. Because you realise actually you need never buy another bass. And that's acutely discombobulating.2 points

@Ricky 4000 Does a standard Ricky not have five knobs and a switch, two switches if you include the push/pull knob? But that said a 4000 only has two knobs. I don't know why started this post. 😆2 points

It’s been used, so it’ll have a few swirls on it, which is what’ll happen anyway (as they have said) especially as it’s black. It rather depends on whether you want one that is box fresh (and, therefore, possibly not set up right) which you’ll need to wait for, or take the discount and have it now. Only you know what’ll make you the most contented.2 points

That’s a good point, Chris. I remember reading an interview with Bruce Foxton - he who plays a 57 style Precision, the ones with the wide necks - and he said he had small hands. Given the rather quick up & down riffing that The Jams work entails that would support the theory of technique being most important rather well.2 points

At least EMG produces pickups with built-in preamps, or rather, buffers. This way the output of the pickup is low impedance (lo Z). The basic pickup has a high impedance (hi Z) output. Impedance is the AC resistance (depends on frequency), compared to pure DC resistance. Impedance here has not very much to do with output level, although on a hi Z system the higher Z usually equals more output. Practically any pickup can be mated with hi Z adjustments (vol, tone, blend). It is also possible to add lo Z adjustments (i.e. replace hi Z tone adjustments), which may include things like bass, treble, middle, and in some rare cases, blend and volume (check Audere and especially John East). A lo Z system needs external power, which is usually a 9 V battery or few. So in practice nearly any preamp can be connected to you pickups. It is up to you to make the choice. An Artec costs £20 and a Sadowsky £300. Their difference is not so much in parts, but design. Preamps are based on operational amplifiers (tiny ICs) or discrete components, like transistors and FETs that consume very little power. To modify your instrument, you need a preamp and a battery and after doing few connections, your bass has new adjustments. Check that there is enough space for all the stuff you want to add.2 points
